@will81's Tumblr The Soaps of Yesterday is so juicy I thought we should have a place to discuss these older news stories (both personal and professional) - https://thesoapsofyesterday-blog-blog.tumblr.com/

1.  Remember when soaps had money to burn?  Weddings in 1984 were very expensive affairs with $10,000 to $20,000 spent on the dresses alone!

2.  But off-screen marriages did not go as smoothly for Marcy Walker or Alec Baldwin

I think Janine Turner's southern accent was real

3.  I had always though there was more to this story

But, apparently it coincided with an overall cast exit from SFT

4.  And finally, one of my favorite soap gossip stories of all time

@Franko I hope this is the beginning of a beautiful threadship

I think this is the right topic for something I read in a Judith McConnell interview. She was talking about her love life and mentioned that she once made live 60 feet beneath the surface of the ocean. My biggest question isn't who- that's none of my business. But HOW? Are we talking in a sub, underwater hotel or while scuba diving? If scuba, then I guess congratulations on her self control?  I'm pretty certain that I would drown.

It's really mind-boggling how many misspellings, especially of actors' names, showed up in the soap press in those days. Did the publications have no access to proofreaders??? 🤯

And they were being fed information from the shows themselves. You see this a lot in old soap magazines and even in books like Soap World (Vikki Lord, Dorian Kramer). You can’t blame the lack of closed captioning because there were closing credits.

Wow. It makes one wonder who was minding the store!! 😳

This is from 1977 instead of the 80s, from Jon-Michael Reed's column.  I'm thinking the actress and producer might have been Pamela Lincoln and Darryl Hickman.  What do you think @amybrickwallace?

It sounds like them to me!!!

They were married in 59 so 1977 marks 18 years, which makes Darryl and Pam the likely subjects.

What other actresses were married to producers? Offhand,I can't think of any.

They hung on till 82. I wonder if this was tied in any way to Pam landing the job on The Doctors.

Maybe Darryl arranging that job for her  calmed Pam's anger for a while...

I can't think of any, either. I did track down this profile of Ms. Lincoln from her TD days, so make of it what you will.

I'm amused by the laissez-faire attitude that "after 20 years of marriage, one expects an occasional extramarital liason".   But, it took me a couple of re-reads to understand the $50 quote.

Meanwhile I still want to know who this refers to?

Of course, both parties in the Lincoln/Hickman marriage were in showbiz where affairs are common. Still, who knows?

When was the blind item about the arcade ex published? I couldn't even begin to guess who it is.

It was 1984, and it had to be a New York based soap, so that narrows it down to Ryan's Hope, Loving, All My Children, One life to Live, As the World Turns, Guiding Light, Search for Tomorrow, or Another World (lol).

Reading the Pam Lincoln's comments in her interview might leave you believing the gossip re the affair.

Her approach to parenting also seems somewhat casual. Kinda like 'I carried the kids for 9 months FFS what more do you want from me?'

  • Member

Yeah - I wonder how her kids felt about her approach to parenting. But I’m the product of people who took parenting very seriously. I didn’t just fit “loosely” into their lives.

EDIT: She and Hickman were divorced in 1982 and the younger son committed suicide a few years later. How sad.

I don't know, the actress could be employed on the West Coast while the ex-husband languished in Westchester, couldn't she?

And add Edge to that list of New York soaps that were on the air in 1984!
