One year later, in July 2024 the cause of death was announced, but I don't know if it was mentioned on this thread. She died of COPD and asthma, with a respiratory infection as reported July 2024 in the Irish Independent https://archive.is/XRFEs --------- The Kris Kristopherson connection -- In 1992, Sinead tore up a photo of the Pope on Saturday Night Live, to protest church child sexual abuse. Shortly after that SNL appearance, she was on the bill of a bunch of of rock and folk singers at a concert to celebrate Bob Dylan's career. Despite Bob Dylan being known for his protest songs, the crowd booed Sinead. Kris Kristopherson was the only person being supportive. This has been a tough week in many regards. R.I.P. John Amos a magnetic, expressive actor who will be remembered for three highly memorable roles, that of James Evans on Good Times, Kunta Kinte in Roots and Cleo McDowell in Coming To America. Members DRW50 Posted October 2, 2024 Members Share Posted October 2, 2024 I had so much respect for John Amos, who stood up for what he felt was right on Good Times and still kept his career and dignity, who never gave a bad performance and fit into so many different types of films and TV. Learning that his last years were spent caught in a toxic feud or situation with his son and daughter, and the poor daughter not even learning of his death until everyone else online...it's so wrong. You hear about this happening with your elders time after time but when it's someone who associate with so many strong and proud TV roles it hurts all the more. Members Khan Posted October 2, 2024 Members Share Posted October 2, 2024 (edited) John Amos was treated so much better on the set of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," where he was allowed to portray an actual character (Gordy, the weatherman and NOT the sportscaster, lol) and not a stereotype. Plus, I thought he had terrific chemistry with the entire cast there, including Moore, Ed Asner, Gavin McLeod, Cloris Leachman and Ted Knight. I believe that if Norman Lear had not come knocking with GT, the MTM crew would have upped him to series regular eventually.
