Pluto's Barker Era channel rotated in about 60 half-hour episodes from 1972-1973 throughout the month of December in honor of Bob's 100th birthday. They debuted each weeknight in a two-hour block in primetime, and now they'll just be added to the regular rotation (so we'll get those episodes, jump to 1982-1985, then back to 1972, etc).

Truthfully, I was looking forward to seeing more from the beginning, but I wasn't too excited simply because of how few games there were. They started with only five, one of which was an awkward dud, so I figure it would get pretty monotonous pretty quickly. I was very wrong, though, and even with just a small rotation of a handful of games, each episode is still as fun and exciting as any other era (especially once the show gained popularity and the audience became more enthusiastic).

An interesting thing, for me at least, is how many black contestants there were right from the very beginning. It's no big deal now, but I think of all of the game shows I've watched from the 60s and 70s, and I'd bet TPIR was the first to have a truly "integrated" contestant base.

Hopefully, they dust off some late 70s eps to rotate in. There were close to 40 different games by then, almost all of them classics, and the energy was already electric.

I can't stand to watch the Drew Carey version of Price Is Right. I grew up with Bob and the original Barker Beauties and the current show is just Sad.

Johnny Olson and Rod Roddy were incredible announcers and really took pride in their work describing the products. " Dinty Moore Beef Stew ! Tasty real beef, with hearty potatoes and carrots in a rich brown gravy. Dinty Moore, It's a meal in a can" !!! George Gray: " It's a can of stew" It's a pack of gum. It's a cleaning spray, it's a bag of chips YAWN !!

Rare found full episode of " The Wizard Of Odds" from 1974. It was the first American game show to be hosted by Alex Trebek. He moved from Canada to the states to host and became a U.S. citizen. The theme song was written and sung by Alan Thicke.

I just read an interview with  Drew Carey who said that he won't retire as the host of The Price is Right anytime soon.

I was surprised to read that he's now hosted it for 17 years.

Do you think there are Gen-Z'ers who only know him as a game show host, not a sitcom star?

    • This was really amazing to watch.   They said that a lot of stuff was filmed out of order over a few weeks. John's memorial service was filmed just before Drake died, and then there was a prescheduled week of the studio being dark (haitus week).  So they got the news of his passing the day after they'd filmed the last scenes before the break. But some of the recent stuff at John's bedside (such as his death) was filmed after that weeklong hiatus break, so not long after Drake died.

I don't know how the actors got through it, especially Deidre. They said regarding episodes airing week of June 9th stuff, it will seem less dark to viewers, as there were some lighthearted moments. (not giving spoilers here).  But I guess Drake was still alive when those scenes were filmed, even though they knew he'd pass soon.
    • Thinking about where the current Cassadines are.  Alexis, Molly, Kristina, and Scout are currently active on canvas. Technically, Ace is on canvas, although we never see him. Jake is in school in Spain? Valentin and Charlotte are currently off-canvas, I think? I've lost track. I thought Valentin was in a prison somewhere, but then I remember reading something about Charlotte, and deciding if she'd live with Valentin or Lulu, but I don't remember what was decided.  I'm unclear on where Valentin is now. Nikolas is in prison. Did I miss anyone?
    • Thank you! Also, can't seem to find Oct thru December '73. I thought it was here at one time.

    • To me, he was her best romantic pairing!
    • In 1986, the writers had Zane shot twice in March and August when he died.  It’s like they didn’t know what to do with the character after they married him to Felicia.
    • Totally feel the same. Stacy’s fine, but this version of Kristen just exists for Brady’s storyline. No flashbacks, no real layers. Eileen always brought that extra spark - and her chemistry with Drake back in the day? So good. Definitely feels like a missed opportunity. Can you imagine Eileen’s Kristen walking in, all shaky, and just hugging Marlena? Both of them crying - like actual, messy, earned tears? That would’ve hit so much harder. Pure soap gold.
    • Xanthe, evidence of the Michigan setting could be found in the scenes when Rachel is on the run for shooting Mitch, which was in late 1980/early 1981. I remember a scene where they showed Bay City on a map of Michigan.
    • Leading to a knockdown, drag out brawl in the Brady Pub There’s so much fanfiction running through my mind right now
