Chandler wasn't so smirky when he started a long time ago, that was a tic that developed over time.   However, he is given a pass for being conventional attractive with a nice body.  I don't mind attractive guys and girls, but have some natural acting ability.  It isn't too much to ask for, right?

Btw, I haven't been watching consistently.. but has there been a reason for the Abby DID story?  Personally, if the show hasn't revealed the root causes.. I'd like to suggest Abby developing the Gabby personality due to hidden resentment/blame for her small part in causing her dad's death years before in that explosion (since she set in motion the kidnapping plot against Melanie which led to the explosion that killed Jack, etc).

The main problem is Chandler doesn't know how to act and never could. Chandler's performance choices are smirking, yelling, and looking bored. He got praise for being a hot piece of ass and because he was hyped as being the first gay character on DAYS. He was supposed to be a star, even though he never earned it, went on to do little when he left the show, and has continued to bring nothing to DAYS this time around. He is blonde and has abs, so people don't call him fat and ugly the way they do Freddie Smith, but you sure never see anyone talk about enjoying him for his acting abilities, unless you can bounce a quarter off thespian talent.

Freddie Smith isn't much of an actor either, so I'm not going to say he is. Really none of them can act (Christoper Sean has been decent here and there) and with the taping schedule never will. Sonny, Will and Paul could all vanish tomorrow and no one would notice, except maybe Chick Fil A, which might give a discount in celebration.

I think Chandler had a lot going for him early on. I do think he leans on habits a lot these days but no, I don't think he can't act.

I do think Freddie has gotten much, much worse than his earnest, sweet start when I liked him a lot, and between his onscreen stuff and his offscreen pyramid schemes or whatever I don't have much time for him anymore.

There IS something wrong with that when you're trying to watch a show for more than tight buns and a perfect smile.  I mean, if that's what you want, then by all means, go buy his calendar.

Not pointing a finger at you....but why do people on this board act like Days has a lot of great actors when I can't name one. I mean great actor not good....Days was a joke when acting was mentioned and this was way before Chandler joined the cast. It was never nominated for Emmys when they were relevant. The great actors were on ABC and CBS.

Just because you want to let everyone know you've still got a libido doesn't mean people can't hope for more from DAYS, Blanche.

That being said I think Chandler Massey is among the least of its problems.

Dude get over yourself. You are yesterday's news. I don't care what you think of me. You can think the worse of me on here. I personally don't give a damn. I am not into hateful people on here.  Go back to your Cheetos.

While they have had to sell a lot of outlandish crap over the years, DAYS does have a core of good actors that are better than the material.  They do lean more heavily on casting for charisma than acting talent though.

I think Chandler has been good in the role. I don’t mind the things people complain about because it helps him stand out, and the smirking reminds me of his parents.  He is especially good in scenes with Marlena.

Sonny did have a sweetness before that Freddie lost the ability to tap into.

The problem with Sonny is the writers changed his personality and it has ruined the character IMO. He was a fun loving guy who didn't judge anyone. As soon as he met Will it was full blast judging him and letting him know of his faults. It got worse when they got married and now that he has returned. The Sonny the viewers loved is long gone.

Ron trying to make him this tough guy with a business sense isn't helping matter either.

Currently, or throughout the show's history?  Because, if you are suggesting that DAYS has never employed good actors, I'm afraid you are mistaken.

    • Kelly was a horribly-written character overall. Just think, two Emmy-winning actresses (including Cynthia Watros, Nina, GH, and Annie, GL) couldn't make it work. Pamela is campy, but so are Dani, Vanessa, Leslie, and Joey. And, I don't want to be too judgy because my love for camp changes depending on the show. OLTL, DAYS, and some eras of GH had me rolling with the camp. However, Passions was overkill and I hated it. And, here, I can take it or leave it. It's ok in small doses (note to RC). I see this show as more of a serious drama.
    • I think one of the reasons that pilot didn't get picked up was because Vicki L was associated more with being Thelma Harper and playing older then she was playing her own age.  It was a blessing it didn't get picked up, or we would have been deprived of the syndicated era of Mama's Family.   Also, worth noting a Pre Night Court Marsha Warfield and pre Perfect Strangers Rebecca Arthur in the cast.  All talented women, but stuck with a bad script. And the other pilot had a pre Fran Fine.. Fran Drescher as the best friend.  I think that pilot might have been picked up if Karen Valentine and Fran Drescher switched roles.
    • So, on rewatch....did Rick and Mindy never have sex?
    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.

    • And here I thought I'd never think about Lauren Tewes again after her brief appearance in Twin Peaks Season 3.
    • I may be the single person who does not mind Transatlantic Campy Pamela. I think it perfectly suits this sort of Absolutely Fabulous-esque supporting character she's playing much more than it did when Cady tried weird and often broad stuff at AMC* or Y&R, or later stints at ATWT. She's not Dixie and she's not trying to be. I will freely admit some of the other chances she took at other shows often came off stiff, hammy or downright mortifying (Kelly Andrews, come on down). (* - and I say that as one of the few who was somewhat into Cady trying to make Dixie more cosmopolitan in the Rosanna Cabot mold in mid-2000s AMC, just to liven the character up again)
    • There’s absolutely nothing exciting happening storyline wise but I’m always happy to see the vets on my screen so I’ll take what I can get. It’s also just nice to see them all dressed up in the same room, it always gives classic Y&R vibes. The best part? No Phyllis.
