It's very sweet that he actually thinks most of the people who vote care about what's in the movie (or even watch the movie) or that those who do care would magically change their mind over one clip out of an entire film. I guess if it makes him feel better.

(I've always liked Laurie Metcalf but I didn't think she was that great in the clip, to be honest - she's been giving that performance for many many years)

Anyway, I generally always find Jane Fonda tense to watch as herself, so maybe it's just me, but what an oddly tense atmosphere there was in the room when she and Helen Mirren were presenting (and it was also a bit odd to see Helen talking about views and society changing given some of her past comments).

Gary Oldman....zzz. The only interesting thing about that is getting to see the social justice warriors who yet again put too much importance on an archaic awards ceremony to validate them seething over him winning and Sam Rockwell winning. If Frances Macdormand wins I imagine Twitter and tumblr will open a vein. And post the pictures in graphic detail.

Frances reminds me of a white version of one of my aunts. Fierce but with a sweet softness that peeks through.

Hey, at least this ceremony ended before midnight Eastern, but it still somehow felt interminable.

They really went all in on politics, but a lot of it felt forced, like Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue.

So all the big categories went pretty much as expected - there were no upsets.

Before the Golden Globes, I don't remember seeing Frances McDormand in interviews/talk shows, so I never knew she had this huge personality.  Now every time I see her I like her more and more.  I just love her personality, her speech pattern, the way she talks, her body movements.....she's just this out-there-likeable character.  Frances asking all the nominated women to stand up was amazing.

I think Shape Of Water is the first science-fiction film to win Best Picture (I consider LOTR: ROTK fantasy).  I want to see it since it's a love story and I like the Alexander Desplait's score.

I liked the movie theater bit. It was a nice fun moment.   And the end with the jet ski.   Tiffany Haddish and Maya were hilarious.

So glad they started the show at 8pm EST.  They should do this every year.

Oh God. The reaction to the Grammys from the Twitter set was hilarious. I wanted to tell them, “You do realize that this is the same Recording Academy that gave Jethro Tull an award for Best Heavy Metal album? That gave Shelby Lynne Best New Artist SIX albums into her career? And you’re still putting stock in their decisions?”

Thrilled for Peele and Del Toro. I would've been happy with most of the nominees for BP except Darkest Hour and Lady Bird, though. Kind of wish Get Out had edged Shape out on BP but they're both very deserving. Wish CMBYN and Timothee Chalamet had won for Best Actor, but that was never going to happen with Oldman and DDL in the race. At least James Ivory won.

For all the talk of "Yay! Diversity!," we STILL end up with white folks winning the four acting prizes.  Thanks, Academy voters.

Meanwhile, the Interwebs are abuzz with Jennifer Garner's mid-clap moment of realization during Frances McDormand's acceptance speech.  Everyone is wondering what the heck ran across the front of her mind.  Me...?  I think it finally dawned on her that the Mueller Device on "Alias" was an utter piece of crap.

    • And Kim Zimmer also gave interviews where she admitted to some of her behavior and she apologized for it. I give her credit for admitting her wrongdoing and taking responsibility because other actresses would not have done that.  BTW, I will miss John Payne from your avatar.

    • Forbes also likely got the primetime career Zimmer wanted - never a huge star, admittedly, but a stalwart, able to dip in and out when she saw fit and generally not paying an industry price. Zimmer felt extremely hurt by her lack of success after leaving GL and even more hurt when JFP made it clear GL had moved on from Reva. (JFP, self-sabotaging as ever, soon made it clear that was not actually the case, but with a stronger producer, GL could have genuinely moved on from Reva) That's interesting. I suppose that's what they always say, and there was some precedent as Passions had moved to Direct TV. I guess Passions being canned so fast (faster than many expected, I think) put a big nail in the coffin. And we haven't had any revivals or moves since that have worked, even though Neighbours came close.  I'll try to find that promo.
    • Oh wow - I must see this promo!  Anyone have a copy/link to it? I can't believe they 'accidentally' did that, and if so, I wonder if someone got in trouble haha. Kim did mention in Chapter 1 that the 'suits' dangled some hopeful carrots for a long time, saying they would pitch the show and try and get it on another network or online somehow where it would be cheaper. They even heard rumors that Lifetime would pick it up, so it gave some folks hope for a little while, but sadly nothing came of it. Kim said she was already resolved that it would never go anywhere and she had peace of mind about that shortly after the announcement.
    • Same. I absolutely agree. It's a real shame, too. I had a lot of hope for the Character.
    • He's been written that way for about twenty years, so I suppose it is fitting. They should have done repair work, but I still think this return was pushed on Frank by ABC and he sandbagged the whole thing. If so, I guess he got what he wanted. I mostly feel bad for Becky Herbst. I've never loved Liz, but she should be given more respect than she is by TPTB, rather than always being a step away from losing her job.
    • Wow. This show is ridiculous.
    • There's a 1997 promo somewhere of Annie vs. Reva which ends with Reva throwing her purse across the room. IIRC, from what soap magazines at the time said, that was not an actual scene but was (allegedly) a real confrontation which somehow got into a promo.  I do wish Wheeler had moved faster - maybe that was as fast as she could go, or maybe she took for granted that they would stay on. I know the show probably couldn't have improved drastically, but I do wish they'd had one year, and Irna's babies could have ended at the same time.  I have already spent enough years comparing the GL and ATWT finales, but I agree. As someone who quit watching GL in disgust around the early/mid '00s the show did remind of its old self at the end. ATWT's ending was an extended Goutman ego trip. One show had a poignant death of a character whose passing was long overdue...one slaughtered a vibrant young man so we could get James Rehborn (wonderful as he was) playing chess for homophobes.  The Grant Aleksander interview I posted a few weeks ago had him talking about learning GL was canceled because Ron Raines called him at Home Depot. He said they knew it was probably going to happen, but that believing something will happen and it actually happening are very different.
    • Thanks. I just hope this choice isn't why Billy is leaving, as they should have done all they could story-wise to make him want to stay.  Maybe he had already told them he was going. I hope so.
    • This is amazing. They didn’t even make it 6 months into Trump‘s term
