Look, I'm pretty much Team Sally but yesterday's show was simply not good.  Lauren mentioning Scott in a couple throwaway lines weeks ago did nothing to build the story we saw yesterday.  I'm not saying we need months of setup, but most definitely more than what was done here.  Ditto to Jill.  Her mentioning some acid reflux one time is sufficient build up?!?  Comon.

Any momentum the Fenmore story had was sidelined by the abrupt pivots in their stories.

I enjoyed todays show, mostly because of Hilary/Devon.  But again, their story has suffered by their being offscreen for what?  A week and a half?  Once ubiquitous Gloria has now been MIA for a week as well (I know that is ok with most of you).  But all this shows a fundamental problem with pacing.  I don't hold out hope that the days of M/W/F for A stories and Tu/Th for B stories will return, but there is a great need for improvement here.

Add to that Reed and his singing at Nick's awful club/bar and Victoria unaware he had left the house. Victoria is an awful mother and wife.

I love seeing Lauren and Jill onscreen but the stories aren't there for them. They are very weak and poorly constructed.

Loved Hilary today. I really do like her friendship with Jack.

I have to say, while I like Ravi, I'm really not here for Ravi/Ashley/Phyllis. You can tell Eileen is slightly annoyed and probably believes the character is beyond all of this. I'd have to agree. I don't need to see Ashley pouting behind closed doors, snapping at Ravi, or picking fights with Phyllis like she's a jealous high school girl.

And yeah, soaps need to learn to grow their fanbase but at this point, catering to the one they have is hard enough at times. But soaps don't seem to know how to introduce a character or develop one anymore. Or re-establish long gone characters to make the newer viewers care.

Clearly this is why. She had to be excited about her return, too. I figured Ashley would benefit immensely and while Sally IS writing for her and giving her a story, it's .... ugh. LOL. I like Ravi/Ashley but the story itself ... I can see why Eileen isn't thrilled.

Chloe who? LOL. I'm shocked they haven't dumped her.

But yeah, I'm wondering why they're fighting over him too. I also feel like at their ages they're just beyond this.

And people can be attracted to all sorts of different people in life. I can see why Ashley finds Ravi appealing. But I also semi-like Ravi's type. Do I think he's "worth" fighting over between Ashley and Phyllis? Nope.

I do love Ashley on Jack's ass about everything and not letting things go and wanting to hold him responsible. I enjoy seeing their back and forths again.

I'd date Ravi too if he asked me out.  I like my men smart, sensible, and sweet. However, I wouldn't fight over the opportunity to date him. So, I'm side eyeing them. What's this really about? It can't be him.

That Chloe reference was a hypothetical. Despite my always having loved EH and Chloe, I don't miss her.

My geek tech friend is smart and sweet. I remember when we first met and became friends all of my other friends said how sweet and nice he was with good manners.

I had another geek tech friend who was hot as hell. He was nice too but had a devilish side to him. I remember when I first met him I couldn't stand him....LOL.

So I guess its possible to fall for a geek tech guy but not for Ashley and Phyliss...LOL

Yes to the bold. I think it's a bit about something else and not so much fighting over him, per say. Or maybe it's just wishful thinking.

I know the Chloe reference was hypothetical, I just wanted to point out she hasn't really been on at all. I like her and don't mind Chloe either but I also don't miss her. I just happened to think about her when you mentioned her and realized how little Sally has used her. Hell, Esther's had more airtime than Chloe this month. Chloe's only appearance has been on 2/7.

The other problem is they're not giving us POV on why Ashley or Phyllis would want to fight over Ravi. Sure they think he's sweet and nice, but we're not getting any actual ... story. Does that make sense?

    • Hold up, is SD making the booty pop? Maybe he's trying to compete w/ the BtG booty popping hahaha.
    • It's sad she can't be a part of his on-screen tribute somehow.
    • I feel the same. I didn’t expect to care about them but the chemistry is strong and I’d love to see them go public and try to make it work.
    • Keith D. Robinson has a lot less screen presence so far than Maurice Johnson had, but I think he's probably a much better technical actor.  I couldn't be happier we're finally moving along with the caucasians. Andre and Ashley better be f*cking by the end of the week, or so help me, just to move the story along even quicker. That's the second time there's been a hint that Dani will get involved with the Doug/Vanessa/Joey story somehow. Maybe it'll happen in response to Andre/Ashley getting together?
    • I have this STRONG feeling that if they put Derek opposite a Kat, Eva, Chelsea, or Shanice, I would NOT be surprised to see him pop and shine. Ashley, on the other hand, has Andre and the actress cannot even sell that pairing. I am really starting to believe that Ashley is the problem and might need to become a year 1 casualty.

    • Honestly, rewatching the mid-80's, I wonder if Pam Long GAF about anyone other than Reva. Even Alexandra, who isn't getting any great story that I can see, she revolves around her precious Brandon.  Reva is supposed to be plucky, "tell it like it is" brave for living with no regrets, while she pisses and moans, biting the Lewis hand that clothes and feeds her so she can lust after a virtual stranger because they've both "hungered" to be a Lewis and feel like they've been excluded from the precious Lewis circle of trust.  Lord love a duck. Long didn't know how to write for strong women. She's not interested in Annabelle, Nola, Katie (although she hadn't had a story since '81) or Trish, Mo and Claire have babyitis, Roxy's an ex-whore, Mindy's spoiled but occasionally tries to grow up and Beth cries all day everyday. Yes, Vanessa isn't the mover and shaker she was upon entering Springfield. But at least she was allowed to grow as a character. Unlike Reva, she's not hamstrung in some eternal sexpot role that she can't escape from.  As much as I dislike some aspects of the Dylan storyline, it's arguably Long's best umbrella story. Yes, it could've been written without Vanessa, but it's undoubtably richer for her being in it.
    • Thank you! I feel the exact same way. Xander and EJ are great villains. This moment between Xander and Philip has been building since November. It was ugly, it was horrible, but it was real. Not some Nickelodeon b.s. that this show has constantly served for years. Now, a big part of why I like these characters are the actors who portray them. They are dynamic, charismatic, and genuinely talented. They actually feel like the new Stefano and Victor, but without being carbon copies. They are their own messed up, villainous, bastards. There are multiple characters in their corner and against them at any given time. Both good and fellow bad people in the community praising and damning them. The show feels like a soap opera again. And crazy as it is to say, I'm even more excited to watch it then I am Beyond the Gates most days, and that's saying a lot. As for Stephanie's book, they're keeping me intrigued wondering where it's going. Bringing in Kate was a genius move. However, I'm still Abigail Klein's biggest hater on this board. Generic Barbie is literally the Sofia Mattsson of DAYS to me, just a complete wash of an actress. However, I think her being a PR person is a damp squib of a profession and since we're stuck with her this could be a way of finally getting her away from her "successful firm." Body and Soul was her lowest low, even worse than when she was poisoning apples or whatever trying to kill Chloe of all people. Philip returning was the best thing to happen to her character in ages. When both stories were happening simultaneously, you could literally see the difference in how much energy she put into performances from one scene to the next.
    • I find the black & white episodes FAR more atmospheric and spooky than the color episodes.   The first few months of Dark Shadows move ploddingly slow when you're binge-watching, with entirely too much repetition and exposition.  But as someone noted above, it's the only time in the show when you get much character development.  After the 1795 sequence, it's pretty much like "just make something up; nobody cares."   The series essentially became self-parody with the overload of monsters & ghoulies.  I was watching a scene one time in which the Witch was attempting to stop the Phoenix from staking the Vampire, and I got tickled at the absurdity of three "monsters" in one scene.
