I laugh at Lucy running in those ridiculous high heels around the pool. Charlene's feet probably looks like bird claws after living in them for decades. Mitch was such a dud of a character. The writers clearly had no idea what to do with them after they got married. I likes seeing all the now classic cars in the Ewing drive way. Ah the days before big ass SUV's and oversized pick up trucks.

Charlene, bless her, was so tiny that I'm surprised she was cast in the first place.

And the show seemed to go out of their way to make that obvious instead of shooting scenes in such a way to cover it up.

Maybe even casting someone a little shorter as her love interest.

It makes me think of Joan Crawford who was only 5'3" but came across much taller onscreen due to clever staging.

And yes, Mitch was a dud. Lucy should have married a young businessman with ties to Ewing Oil to keep them in the mix.

I suspect she was initially cast because she was so tiny as it provided a good juxtaposition between Lucy and the "adults" at Southfork. It became a bit obvious once they moved her into "adult" storylines.

Also, that pool scene was straight out of every TV show of the 70's/80's- the camera always panned to a guy doing a fancy dive right on cue. However, they missed out on the boobalicous bikini babes tossing an inflatable beach bool to each other and bouncing in time.

Lucy was like Emma Channing on FC: she was there, but nobody knew what to do with her; and whenever she was absent, you didn't miss her all that much either.

A lot of odd things about that get together.

Mitch knew he was going to a pool party where it would be wet, why didn't he wear flip flops or some type of sandals ? I was surprised when he exited the pool in a huff he didn't have on those stupid soaking wet tube socks.

I also noticed after the valet told Mitch he would take care of his car, in the background it look like he just rolled it forward a few feet from where it had been. Why would you need valet parking for that type of casual party?

That's the last time you see Lucy with that many friends. I guess she didn't bother to invite Muriel since she is nowhere to be seen. All those douche bags probably had names like Tad, Muffy, Tiffany, Preston, Wentworth, etc...

I think Emma did fit into the stories more in terms of how she could affect Angela, and I thought Margaret Ladd was a good actress. Emma was also very unique to the canvas.

Lucy had none of that as she didn't have strong enough connections to the canvas. Charlene was likeable, she was pretty, and she clearly appealed to some male viewers (maybe some female viewers too), but the character wasn't made to last.

I do remember enjoying her when she came back and was just commenting on all the action.

Exactly as you said, "The character wasn't made to last". She was so disconnected from the main cast and storylines. She was the B or even the C story. She was often out of the loop of the goings on in the family.

As it has been said many times she should have married someone connected to Ewing oil (Alan Beam seemed to be where that was headed before the kibosh was put on that) or have her be money hungry and wanting her piece of the pie. They could have had her be little naïve Lucy who was secretly through the series getting her ducks in a row for a corporate takeover, but I don't think Charlene could have made that work.
