Bumping since now it's reality.

As much as I love the 1970's movie, I hope NBC stays far far away from it. I could do a long post of what I like and hate about that film and someday when I've been drinking, I will.

I do wonder if they will stick with the more adult version of Dorothy or "de-SORAS" her back down to a teenager. Personally, I'd love it if they could bring on Stephanie Mills as Miss One or Auntie Em just as a nod to the fact that she was the original Dorothy.

They really need to bring on Stephanie Mills in some capacity, if they don't, then I won't trust this production.

Years ago, I read a really good book by Sidney Lumet who directed The Wiz. In it, he detailed all the problems with the production, even though he remained immensely proud of the work done. I'm not sure if I remember accurately, but he may have hinted that Berry Gordy had a bit too much input into the process. Back then I think Michael Jackson was still in the Motown fold and well, we know about Diana Ross.

Maybe Anika Noni Rose is no Beyoncé in terms of popularity but Rose is a Tony Award winning actress who also has Disney credentials (The Princess & the Frog) so I'm gonna guess she'd do more than hold her own. They could always fill the ranks with other celebrities like an Usher for the Scarecrow or Tin Man, Chris Rock as The Wiz (the role that Richard Pryor did in the movie) but Dorothy has to be right and those live TV specials need a performer who knows what she is doing and has the training and confidence to pull it off.

Since I am all about Tonya Pinkins, I think she'd be fabulous as either Evilene (could you imagine her singing 'Don't Bring Me No Bad News'?) or Auntie Em?

Marcelin, I'd love to hear your perspective on the 1970's movie musical? Sending you a virtual bottle of champagne-lol.

Chris Rock sounds nice, but you just KNOW they're going to cast Kevin Hart.

I am as sure of that as I am that Anthony Anderson will play the Cowardly Lion.

On the one hand, I might have persuaded Diana to play Glinda instead, since THAT was easier to explain to the audience than rewriting the role of Dorothy to be more suitable for someone Diana's age. But, OTOH, convincing Diana to play Glinda meant losing Lena Horne, who is just absolute magic in that movie, IMO.

You're so right, but we might escape Anthony Anderson simply due to the fact that he has a show on ABC and that might prevent him from doing this.

I love the idea of Anika Noni Rose as Dorothy. I've loved her for like 15 years now. She's like Kerry Washington, except, ya know, with talent. I always thought she should've been the lead on Scandal. But that's a whole different topic.

I'll be bold and say that Nicki Minaj should be Miss One. She can bring the quirkiness that the character needs and has the name recognition to get ratings for the network.

Bruno Mars would be my choice for the Scarecrow, but it probably will be someone like Usher (who gets erroneously compared to Michael Jackson, ugh).

Kevin Hart for the Tin Man. That's a role that a comedian can play, since it's not really difficult singing wise.

The Lion is tough one for me to cast, since he has to have really soulful voice. Jordan Peele has a decent singing voice and could definitely ham it up with the crying parts, but I'm not sure that he is quite right.

    • So I think I figured based on the end credits who is the script writer for each episode. Thursday's episode looked to have been script written by David Kreizman, and it was a well written episode that flowed well. Today's episode looked to have been script written by Henry Newman (son of Fran Myers and the late Roger Newman).   Right now, I've noticed improvements on the day to day scripts and that's a good sign that eventually the long term outlines that we will see in the coming weeks and months will be good.  Fingers crossed.
    • I have a very different view of Dano. For one thing, she like me, loves her little dogs. Another thing, of course she is effusive, outgoing but she is also very vulnerable & she used to have her Frank, her mother & Vivian who officially was her publicist (I think) but she was so much more. Now, they are all gone. Well, except for her always having a pair of her little dogs. But, if I were going to think in your terms, what I would think is "cool aunt". Because this lady is really one cool dame. Here is one of my favorite views of her https://www.instagram.com/reel/DGecq8rJS4w/

    • I found it to be a rather odd way to deal with a character departing for parts unknown.
    • Today reminded me as to why I’m a little disappointed in the name that the new Pope chose

Luckily, EJ and Johnny, and pretty much every other character saved today’s episode.  I didn’t expect Javi to be the one to save Sarah though, and I don’t mind it at all, because if it means that Javi is finally going to get his own identity/character, away from his douchy bf, I’m all for it. Javi’s scenes would’ve been a lot better had it not been for him. EJ and Johnny were the best part of today. Their conversation hit a lot of important beats and I’m so looking forward to seeing them play out. And now that EJ knows that Johnny is going to work for Xander, that opens up another dynamic to their storyline and to the Kiriakis family storylines as well. Tying them all together could be really good. There are so many story possibilities that can come out of this. And I thought Carson Boatman did a pretty good job again too.  I also liked that Johnny was there to comfort Chanel after everything that happened with Sarah. They’re so good together. But I do have mixed feelings about Chanel possibly forgiving Johnny so quickly. Hopefully, the question that she asked him at the end of today leads to more conflict for the two of them.  And yeah, still no changes in Alex’s character lol
    • Awesome, thanks so much for taking the time to grab this episode. I had a quick review of your rip because I was curious why it was 700MB and 30 minutes. The first 10 minutes of the episode is 3169 (opening credits at 5 minutes and again at 15 minutes). I thought we had the full HD version of ep.3170 on the YouTube channel, but it appears they added the wrong episode but labelled it 3170.
    • I guess, according to Mike Manning in the Michael Fairman chat, he was almost Derek
