Black-ish: Discussion Thread

BLACK-ISH - Andre ‘Dre’ Johnson (Anthony Anderson) has a great job, a beautiful wife, Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross), four kids, and a colonial home in the ‘burbs. But has success brought too much assimilation for this black family? With a little help from his dad (Laurence Fishburne), Dre sets out to establish a sense of cultural identity for his family that honors their past while embracing the future.

“Black-ish” stars Anthony Anderson as Dre, Tracee Ellis Ross as Rainbow, Yara Shahidi as Zoey, Marcus Scribner as Andre Jr., Miles Brown as Jack, Marsai Martin as Diane and Laurence Fishburne as Pops. “Black-ish” was written by Kenya Barris, who also serves as executive producer. Executive producers are Larry Wilmore, Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Helen Sugland, Tom Russo, Brian Dobbins, Peter Principato, Paul Young and James Griffiths, who directed the pilot. “Black-ish” is produced by ABC Studios.

I hate this title too.

WHO | Anthony Anderson (Guys With Kids), Tracee Ellis Ross (Girlfriends), Yara Shahidi (Scandal), recurring star Laurence Fishburne (Hannibal)

WHAT | An upper-middle class black man struggles to raise his children with a sense of cultural identity despite constant contradictions and obstacles coming from his liberal wife, old-school father and his own assimilated, color-blind kids.

I'll check this out cause I like that cast. Hard to tell if it's any good or not. I'd be nice if it took off, since there are currently no sitcoms on broadcast tv featuring a black or hispanic family and that's a damn shame.

Poor Lawrence Fishburne. He has paid his dues and I'm assuming his taxes as well. Why must he suffer this way? Anthony Anderson? Why does any network continue to place their bets on this lame ass horse?

2 eppies tops!

I hope Laurence doing this show as well doesn't mean bad things for his character on Hannibal, despite my finding Jack to be an idiot.

I've seen ghetto-as-hell indie Black movies on Netflix that were better.

LMAO, I don't see this lasting either the entire season or past one season but I will probably enjoy it while I can.

I think it will be good enough for me to stick with. I still hate the fact that Guys With Kids got canceled though. It was SUCH a good show and Anthony Anderson and Tempest Bledsoe were a brilliant team. If that were on CBS I think it would've lasted for years.
