"DAYS" 1980'S WEDDINGS: THE RATINGS...

Here's a look at the 31 weddings that took place on "Days" in the 1980's, from highest-to-lowest rated weeks. Please note: Weeks in red are "fast weekly" weeks (Nielsen only issued preliminary data for these weeks, not final numbers). No data is available for the week of Don & Liz's wedding.

Y&R is killing it! Brad in a cage had wrapped up and the next big storylines were Phillip/Nina wedding and George Rawlins murder.

Surprised to see Generations premiere w/ 97% clearance. I thought it would be lower.

Bo/Hope wedding rates the same as Pete/Ivy from the same year.

Surprised there wasn't more of a bump for Bo/Hope. Culmination of major story/location shoot/expensive wedding gown etc.

In fact Bo/Hope rates lower than Larry/Hope the year before.

I wonder if there was any fall out from that in terms of expense v ratings result?

@Paul Raven @AbcNbc247 Bo/Hope wedding May 20-24, 1985 Days was 3rd tied w/ Y&R. Remember that 1985 Days time slot competition was strong All My Children, rising Y&R, middle ranked As the World Turns. 1987 Days time slot competition was strong Y&R, not yet a hit B&B, weakened All My Children.

Y&R has definitely officiated itself as a strong #1 rather quickly, over a million ahead of the pack.

I was wondering how OLTL would do in the ratings amid Eterna given how the Old West caused a big drop but they actually did rather well. Unfortunately the storytelling becomes all over the place, no fallout on the Viki/Megan reveal and the show relies on the baby switch and Austin for its last hurrah.

I found this newspaper article tonight for the 10/19/87 week that is missing. This confirms the rankings (1st to 8th place) that VR posted are correct!  Unfortunately, no article for the missing 12/14/87 week is in any newspaper.

Generations just plummeted into the low 2s fast despite having excellent coverage.

And yikes, DAYS just crashed with it - I know a lot of people have said the show was messy at this point but I think the previous Scrabble lead in must've helped.

    • Hahaha. It was worth a try. Alas.
    • There were lots of spoiler pics for week of May 5-9 of Devon/Lily/Holden/Damian/Amy/Nate/Audra. I posted them on the spoiler thread that week because they all looked so pretty. I was hopeful.  Sorry to read in the recaps that it was mostly discussion of Dumas!
    • Random Hump Day Reactions Despite my better judgment about commenting on appearances—what is going on with Philip’s skin? He looks distractingly sunburned. Did the makeup team forget to use foundation? Or powder? Or that they’re broadcasting in high definition? Meanwhile, Kristen looked like the saddest Alice in Wonderland. The dirndl was cute, but everyone in that mansion could desperately use a pop of primary color—and a reason to smile. It’s one thing for Belle to be blinded by love for EJ. It’s another for her to hear him admit to kidnapping Rachel and treat it like a punchline. There's zero urgency from anyone about getting Rachel or Kat back to Salem. Kristen and Cat seem to forget their long-lost mothers are still being held elsewhere against their will. At least when Doc, Kayla, and Kate went missing, people cared. Paulina even talked to that urn! (Still waiting to find out who was in the urn, by the way…) Raise your hand if you believe Rachel innocently brought up Tate’s baby. If your hand is up, do not click on any suspicious email links today. You’re vulnerable. And finally, deep breaths: Jamey—or someone he edits—named the miracle drug Versavix. Fun fact: real drug names are developed by branding teams after the research is done. Versavix sounds like the draft name someone scribbled during a Red Bull crash and forgot to replace. This isn’t even a good fake drug name. It’s like they forgot that the same show once gave us a literal ‘love potion’ that made Sami fall for Austin. Versavix makes me nostalgic for the days of ‘L-dopa’ and Stefano’s mind control chips, at least they didn’t sound like a discontinued allergy medication. (crud, another day, another broken promise to stop complaining about this).
    • Brandon said that a couple of months ago, and MVJ replied in agreement.  I'm intrigued.
    • So many of the problems stem from there being one main family. As a result, Vernon and Anita don't have contemporaries to interact with which leaves them primarily as talk-to's. If and when they bring on her bandmates, it would benefit them to establish at least one as a main character with a family. If they ever brought on Jacob's mom, she could be another person that Anita could regularly interact with.
    • And in the Oct. 25, 1985, episode, a pre-fame Tony Shalhoub.
