November 3, 20232 yr Member ATWT doing well. James great escape was a hit! Duke and Lucinda meddling did well too for the show that week. But WTF happened to the CBS soaps on....3/13/89-3/17/89 Spring break? There were no pre emptions.
November 3, 20232 yr Member "DAYS" 1980'S WEDDINGS: THE RATINGS... Here's a look at the 31 weddings that took place on "Days" in the 1980's, from highest-to-lowest rated weeks. Please note: Weeks in red are "fast weekly" weeks (Nielsen only issued preliminary data for these weeks, not final numbers). No data is available for the week of Don & Liz's wedding.

Brad in a cage had wrapped up and the next big storylines were Phillip/Nina wedding and George Rawlins murder. Surprised to see Generations premiere w/ 97% clearance. I thought it would be lower.
November 3, 20232 yr Author Member Bo/Hope wedding rates the same as Pete/Ivy from the same year. Surprised there wasn't more of a bump for Bo/Hope. Culmination of major story/location shoot/expensive wedding gown etc. In fact Bo/Hope rates lower than Larry/Hope the year before. I wonder if there was any fall out from that in terms of expense v ratings result?
November 4, 20232 yr Member @Paul Raven @AbcNbc247 Bo/Hope wedding May 20-24, 1985 Days was 3rd tied w/ Y&R. Remember that 1985 Days time slot competition was strong All My Children, rising Y&R, middle ranked As the World Turns. 1987 Days time slot competition was strong Y&R, not yet a hit B&B, weakened All My Children.
November 4, 20232 yr Member Y&R has definitely officiated itself as a strong #1 rather quickly, over a million ahead of the pack. I was wondering how OLTL would do in the ratings amid Eterna given how the Old West caused a big drop but they actually did rather well. Unfortunately the storytelling becomes all over the place, no fallout on the Viki/Megan reveal and the show relies on the baby switch and Austin for its last hurrah.

Doug then married Lee. Finally they reunited and remained wed until they left in 84. when Julie came back in 90 they were now divorced.

I suspect it of being an evil twin!

Ratings data comes from a 2019 Soap Opera Network post by VanessaReardon, who seems to have had access to Nielsen data from the 1985-1988 time frame. This rating data is yet to be confirmed by the Nielsen book. Preemption data for the week is confirmed by comparing the # of telecasts Nielsen listed in the 10/12 book compared to the 10/26 book. This proves all of the soaps aired 5 episodes this week, but we do not know if any of the soaps had partial preemptions this week. This newspaper article confirms the placements of the top 8 soaps for the "missing" week of 10/19/87: I found this newspaper article tonight for the 10/19/87 week that is missing. This confirms the rankings (1st to 8th place) that VR posted are correct! Unfortunately, no article for the missing 12/14/87 week is in any newspaper. Edited November 4, 20232 yr by JAS0N47

November 4, 20232 yr Member Generations just plummeted into the low 2s fast despite having excellent coverage. And yikes, DAYS just crashed with it - I know a lot of people have said the show was messy at this point but I think the previous Scrabble lead in must've helped. Edited November 4, 20232 yr by te.
