Maybe viewers were getting tired of the action/adventure and supercouple trends. Most Days fans I know consider the Summer 1990 shipwreck as the last big action/adventure storyline of the supercouple era and Stephen Nichols departure that fall as the end of the supercouple era.

All My Children getting stronger and rebounding from December 1988 and January 1989. AMC will continue to strengthen in 1989 and will rejoin the top 3. OLTL is very strong but beginning in the summer of 1989 it begins to fade and falling during the fall of 1989. GH is still strong but will start to slip in 1989.  AMC will finish Number 4 for the 88-89 season. YR, GH and OLTL are the top 3. Restless gets stronger as 1989 progresses. Days begins to fade in 1989. B&B gets stronger as 1989 progresses as well.

Days really crashed there between 20 Feb and 27 Feb.. and I guess they will just continue to free fall, considering they´ll be hitting 5s soon..

Remember too Days gets a new lead in on March 27, Generations. NBC moved Scrabble from 12:30 pm to 10 am. I wonder if the change in lead in played a part, but then again, 12:30 pm had been a dead zone for NBC for many years.

1989 was big for daytime network game shows. NBC runs of Sale of the Century, Super Password, Wheel of Fortune; Win, Lose or Draw came to an end. CBS run of Card Sharks came to an end. CBS had a short-lived revival of Now You See It, and picked up Wheel of Fortune after the NBC run ended.

1989 in syndicated talk shows saw Hour Magazine end its run and Joan Rivers launch her talk show in the fall.

Scrabble really didn't do too badly in the time slot. If Generations had been able to keep those figures we'd probably at least had it for a few more years, but it wasn't meant to be.

A few things about GEN. Had a 3 yr contract to start, not 2, as usual. It was said that the show had a white knight, a protector at NBC but that personnel changed & they lost their white knight. Then, at the 2 yr. mark, the axe. Always wondered. Such a good show. And, then, remarkable that BET immediately picked it up & reran it several times!
