Yeah, it seems to have come out of nowhere. If I were Shatner, I'd be a little freaked out.

I would guess he's worried about his job at GH and is trying to show them that his connections can help them out.

Well, whether this is stunt casting or not, I think Shirley would be a nice fit for a soap in some capacity.

GH confirms that Shirley Jones, best known from the classic TV show THE PARTIRDGE FAMILY, will guest-star on GH in February. No further details are yet available. William deVry (Julian) let the cat out of the bag on Twitter; in a tweet directed to William Shatner, he wrote, "we have Shirley Jones coming onto General Hospital tomorrow. We r still hoping ur agent will let u join us for a few eps."
