I thought she was there for a longer time as well. I guess it's because there was so much controversy over her firing someone to supposedly help pay his salary.

I knew it had to be something bad. I just thought it would have been something like a fight. Sexual harassment was not even on my mind.

I cannot believe he did this. Hunter King is a young woman and he's a married man with children. It's just sick. He was rightfully fired.

I was checking out SOC. Seems like Dan Kroll and Roger Newcomb know the truth "whatever it is" and now the Y&R mods of the SOC board know it because they have done a 180 on MM's firing. They have gone from sympathetic to pretty matter of fact.

R.I.P.: Anthony Geary has passed away

I hated the 2006 story almost as much as they did. I agree with a lot of Genie's complaints. The 2008 stuff was much better. I thought the 2002 reunion (along with the horrific Endgame) was cartoonish, superficial and thrown together by Jill and Megan to try to save their jobs. It was far beneath the quality of material they'd been given in the late '90s, for all that period's flaws. I wanted Luke and Laura back together, but it was so badly done.
I don't think Tony and Genie were at each other's throats in the last years, or in '08 or probably much of the '90s. There were some difficult times. But I know Genie has said she spent time visiting with him in the last decade as well.

I'd never seen her before but the youtube closed captioning says her name is "Lindsay Butler" (but I know closed captioning is often wrong).

I looked it up.

And OMG... If you haven't... then you ABSOLUTELY NEED TO BUY it for Christmas! Buy it for yourself and you won't regret it. I can help with choosing translation. I think that's the most important part, because a translation can make or break a book. I've done TOO much research into it the last few days... haha.
I recommend either the Magarshack translation (Signet Classics edition - black background with the approaching train)... or the newest Bartlett translation (Oxford World Classics edition) and finally - the newest (from 2014) Marian Schwartz one (The Margellos World Republic of Letters edition).... it is amazing (the negative is that it's slower and harder to read, the sentences don't flow as well, but that can also be a positive depending what a person wants from a book) - still I think it's the closest to Tolstoy of all of them. My husband read it to me in Russian and we compared translations together. The Schwartz translation is quite expensive thought in paper, even though the kindle or the eBook may be cheap. P.S. Just checked the kindle version is 0.00 for that one and trust me... it's sublime.
So if you want to read it and feel the melodrama and the language to flow easy and not even feel like a translation - Magarshack no doubt about it, but if you want something as close as possible to Tolstoy, but a bit harder to read - Bartlett or Schwartz (both are the newest translations and they have the advantage of being based on the fullest Tolstoy text, the earlier editions have some missing sentences or parts). The Bartlett translation has a very beautiful hardcover and it's very easy to find online.
This is just my opinion, but the most popular Pavear and Volokhonsky translation... is just not as good. I read the first 50 pages and it's just so much worse compared to the other ones. But whatever edition you decide, it's still going to be okay, I think. Let me know if you start reading it! I'm still waiting for my Signet edition to arrive, and it will be sometime before Christmas.
OLTL has gotten me a bit obsessed with Anna Karenina right now. 😄 This soap just makes people want to read books and that's amazing.

IIRC for a brief time the overlapping shots were Scotty fading into Laura’s shot, then the overlap between Laura and Luke. It felt deliberate to me at the time because all three shots were slowed down just a little to make the overlaps noticeable.
Part of the issue seemed to be what happened with her original waking up from being catatonic story. It was heartbreaking to watch and I thought beautiful for the most part. But both of them said they ended up feeling manipulated by what was promised versus what they got, including the wedding scenes which were not the original plan and both felt were kind of cheesy to just have her wake up and get married while Luke hid the truth from her.
Over the last few years I understand more of what both of them were complaining about. Genie felt Laura was too old to be an ingenue and that Laura had regressed repeatedly. And Tony was left kind of in limbo repeatedly when she left/and finally was by her account defacto fired by Jill. Genie was off living a life with her family and Geary was struggling to stay engaged at work and not very happy by all accounts.
Luke was often still in story, but the only time it was really meaty before 2006 was when they revisited the rape before her return in 1998. After she left in 2002 he was stuck doing stuff like the Heather Webber story and several things that involved him emoting towards or about a mop with a blond wig on it, and as the sole parent of their kids. And the grind of the material really took a toll on him. I’m not making excuses for his commentary btw, which was often just rude. I am just saying that with distance and looking at them as their real people I understand more of where both of them were coming from.
My issue with him is the fact that he acted like the Luke at the end of the show was the Luke that was there the whole time. Both of them (Tony/Luke) were older, bitter, and didn’t want to keep looking back. But we watched Luke evolve and also come crashing apart when he lost Laura. The stupid Rick Webber storyline was a huge part of why Luke became such a bastard, because he couldn’t save Laura from her own mind.
Once he was paired with Jane he hung on for dear life because he had a true partner again and IRL they were actually closer fiends than he had ever been with Genie. Both of them seemed really proud of what they had accomplished with L/L, even though it was also difficult in deeply personal ways.

I always felt like Robin was the one woman who really intimidated Carly. She's smart, pretty, Sonny and Jason love her, the town adores her, she has tons of friends, etc. Carly always felt inferior to her. It's probably my favorite Carly rivalry. While I like Brenda/Carly as foes there really isn't that much history there besides sleeping with the same men. I don't think Carly respects Brenda and I think she secretly respects Robin.
Both are obviously better than LW's Carly screeching at women that go near Sonny or Jason today lol.
To your second point, I feel like Skye's inclusion in the Brenda return was another attempt at shoehorning the character in and gaining sympathy for poor Skye. Jax didn't need to marry her for conflict. Brenda faked her death weeks before Jax/Brenda's wedding, hid for 4 years, shacked up with Alcazar, thinks she's dying, Jax gets shot and paralyzed, Brenda marries Jason, Sonny's hanging around, Alcazar is still stalking her, and so on. That's a ton of conflict right there. Jax didn't need a wife in the mix especially when he dumps about 10 min after Brenda returned.

I feel your POV might be echoing how I feel. When you lay out how the show started...yeah, all of those stories had builds and were oh so layered for me. And with him gone, it does seem clear that for all the flaws, MVJ and Guza balanced out each other really well. Good for Guza since it's nice to see he still has it in him after all these years and has redeem himself a little bit in my eyes from years of stuff I didn't like on GH.

Now...while I'm still enjoying...like you, I have started to have a growing feeling something is missing. Like for example, the complexity for a lot of the characters appear to be...gone? Paint-by-numbers in a way that it wasn't before? And no reveal at Winterfest...which would be a first real test for new HW...does worry me...though I enjoyed the episode overall.
