OLTL: The Prospect Park Era (old production thread)

Jack and Neela were a bust. The good girl/bad boy thing wasn't going to work with a character as green as Jack. What they need to do is create a female counterpart for him whose behavior is equally as reckless as his, if not moreso. Jack basically needs his own "Blair," "Tina" or "Kimberly" type of girlfriend to get into trouble with. If AT were a stronger actor and if Jack were a more defined character, then I could see him having a compelling relationship with a more 'wholesome' girl, but he isn't ripe enough yet to play against a polar opposite, so they need to pair him with a girl who is similar to him.

...and Todd needs to stay far away from Sam. And with Haven on the verge of cancellation, they need to get Bree back as Jessica ASAP. If she declines, then recast the role, but Jessica needs to be there. She's more important to the family than Natalie.

I agree, plus Neela was not even likable at all and he had no chemistry with her, he had way more chemistry with Shane, and that all instant him liking her was not believable at all... hell with the new format OLTL is in, I can see this new girl introduce Jack to the hardcore dark path full of drugs, alcohol and sex

or make him bisexual, give more options

I think people are still being too hard on AT, this was his first professional job, also it's been a year since OLTL ended.. I'm sure he's gone to classes, i'm just sick of people getting on his case..

I could see Jennifer Landon, Jessica Dunphy or Marnie Schulenburg as Jessica, or if they can get Erin Torpey back

I believe that AT can become a better actor with time, and will eventually become solid. Towards the end of the show, I saw subtle hints of improvement in his performance, that largely looked like he had just become more comfortable and less nervous. What Jack really needs is a storyline that discovers AT's niche for the writers to play on, and will have a sort of 'defining' effect on the Jack character and AT as an actor. That would have never happened under the shallow pen and production style of RC and FV. Hopefully this new team can pull that off. And in the meantime they need to find a more compelling love interest for him than some naive Mary Sue; as I said, pair him up with some hyperactive, scheming young pre-rape Marty Saybrooke/Kimberly Andrews type of girlfriend, who has a dark/self-centered/calculating streak, but isn't totally nuts or sociopathic.

Far as Jessica is concerned, again I think BW should have first refusal; if she is bent on not returning then send out a casting call. ET doesn't need to come back; she went as far in the role as she could. There's no way I could buy her as a 30-something Jessica and mother of two kids. She'd regress the character to coming off like 14 years again. It would be like when JJ returned as Lucky after Greg Vaughan. When she returned to help usher out Cristian, nothing had changed in her presentation. She still seemed sort of hokey and callow.

Well I do hope BW does change her mind and appear, what about the other 3 actresses I suggested..

I agree AT did improve toward the end of the show.. I do hope Thom and Susie see what AT can offer them, I think he has the talent to wow people.. I agree Jack needs a love interest to be his equal.. I guess it's me but I would like the girl to take Jack down a dark path.. I would also like to see a coming out story with a legacy character, I can see Jack fit in that role, since OLTL couldn't do that after ABC nixed Malone's plans for Joey, but there is also bisexuality, which hasn't been done on soaps and AT did say he'd be willing to do it, he said if that's how Jack was originally going to go back when RC was HW, he would've done.. I guess why own crush on AT wants a coming out s/l for Jack.

I also would love to see Jack go through a "coming of age" s/l that defines him as his own person, not just the son of Todd Manning and Blair Cramer.. Jack IS after all the next generation of the Lord and Cramer families

good to see people think AT is more than just a boy with good looks, a hot body, beautiful hair and no substance

I think Jessica would need a recast to work. I've said before that I'd welcome Erin Torpey back and I stand by that. She was fantastic throughout her run and I liked her guest appearances. I could see her bringing some warmth back to Jessica. I could see her playing both Jess and Tess as completely different roles, unlike Williamson who played such an unlikable Jessica most of the time.

I think Jennifer Landon is a huge talent and any show would be lucky to have her. I wouldn't mind her on either of the PP reboots. It amazes me that she ended up popping up on Y&R after doing nothing since leaving ATWT. You'd think with her Emmys (not to mention famous father) that somebody would've cast her. She's such a strong actress I could see them putting her on any of the current soaps and she'd knock it out of the park. Y&R's writing was so bad and she still managed to make that work.

Jennifer would have to dye her hair back to blonde, but yeah I could see her as Jessica, JL didn't win those Emmys for nothing she was great.. Heather Stevens was such a bust for her, same with Maura West when she was cast as Diane Jenkins

I also would love to see Erin back as Jessica, I wonder what her take on Jess' DID would've been like.. if Bree doesn't agree to come back

OLTL doesn't need to bring Jessica back again for a good two to five years. And when they do it needs to be another recast (Jennifer Landon's a good choice) or Erin Torpey. Jessica as a role does not exist anymore.

They systematically dismantled and destroyed the character of Jessica with the abysmal DID storylines, which were the only thing Bree Williamson showed even a remote interest in playing long-term. In the later years she contributed absolutely zero for her part of the equation in trying to rebuild Jessica as any kind of functional character. And she was mediocre at best at presenting Jessica to begin with. As a result, Jessica is non-functional now and needs a long rest and reinvention later down the road.

This is a character that was built, for years, to serve as Viki's successor. Instead, she was mutilated beyond recognition and Natalie took her place in that slot. Because I love Jessica, I want her to stay gone for a long, long, long time. And I never want Ron Carlivati or Bree Williamson near her again.
