Members EricMontreal22
Ah I stand corrected. I still don't think Aggie would be talked into releasing a statement if she didn't have confidence in the project. It could be misguided--but I don't believe she's being tricked into being amouthpiece as others (not you) suggested. This would have made more sense financially and probably creatively. But, I do think there's some sense to them wanting to have an established franchise name for initially trying something out like this.
Members dragonflies
She basically did the same thing last year when PP first got the rights, I don't see how this is really any different.

Webmaster Errol Posted January 5, 2013 Webmaster Share Posted January 5, 2013 Correct. In the press release announcing the deal the first time around Agnes said, “I’m just so happy that ABC found a home where the legacies of ‘All My Children’ and ‘One Life To Live’ can continue. I’m excited for their future with Prospect Park. It takes a lot of living to make a soap opera a serial, and the wonderful teams on both shows have done just that. Together, we are a big family that keeps going, and I’m looking forward to working alongside these wonderful people as we ensure that the shows will continue with all the love and excitement we’ve always had. I also am so happy for our loyal fans, whom we love so much, and who have been so supportive over the last 40 plus years.”
Members DramatistDreamer
I am one of those people who've dropped cable. I'm about due for a new TV and my next one will definitely be Internet ready because although I've adapted to watching on a laptop, I'd prefer to stream certain programs on a larger screen. My laptop screen is quite huge for a laptop though (18.4") and my screen has better resolution than my TV, so I actually prefer watching on my laptop for now. I'm not adverse to Hulu and I do have a Netflix account. Between this and a digital TV antenna, I don't feel like I miss much. And I probably shouldn't mention this but I was actually able to watch the BBC feed of the London Olympics online (which was superior to NBC's broadcast, I heard). Once you become savvy about manipulating the technology, you realize that there are more advantages than drawbacks, but that's just my opinion. Just reading about media trends, I do believe that in the next few years, the technology will encourage more people to do more streaming/watching programming via wireless/Internet even if you are still watching on your television. Especially for those under 40, I think people will become more comfortable with the technology-- they will purchase more Internet ready televisions and streaming receiver boxes (e.g. Roku) as the technology proliferates. Members dragonflies
LOL thanks Errol. So yeah I think her heart is in the right place and wants this so much she can taste it, but I can see them misleading her or whatnot.
Members Khan
However, established franchises can be a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it helps attract viewers who remember the old show fondly and are curious about the new one. But on the other hand, if the new show pales in comparison to the old show even just a smidgen, they're gone; and usually, they're gone before the new show has built up any viewer loyalty on its own. Members EricMontreal22
Absolutely agreed. That said, some soap fans are dumb I've seen a lot of stuff on FB, etc, begging for any form of AMC/OLTL back and saying they'll never watch a new soap again--so even saying "From the creator of All My Children, One Life to Live and LOVING " might not get them to bother. Members SFK
Agreed. And why is SoapNet even being run around the rumor mill? Haven't we all known that SoapNet has been a dead man walking for over a year now? It's going to be replaced by DisneyFetus. I have no problem with the new production model. I don't think people complaining about having to make LESS of a viewing commitment is keeping with the times, unfortunately. I think the model is modern and great, and the emphasis must, MUST be on out of the park excellent storytelling. They just cannot afford to shuck and jive any longer. They no longer have that luxury. Stories are going to have to move swiftly, each episode has to be great. No time for filler. The model will also better accomodate the schedules of the actors who will be afforded the opportunity to come and go should storyline dictate. This could potentially mean more variety in character focus and perhaps some great guest starring appearances from actors we don't already associate with AMC or OLTL for a particular "book". Members dragonflies
This made me LOL so hard, that'll probably be Disney's next channel they come out with, targeted towards those in the womb
Members Khan
True. But saying, "You loved her on ALL MY CHILDREN -- now get ready as Erica Kane takes on the cosmetics industry in New York!" might. More like DisneyZygote.
Members SFK
I was talking to my dentist about Netflix's House of Cards the other day and he was saying how he ditched cable and is only doing Netflx/Hulu/Roku in his house. I housesat for friends and they had the same deal going on. More and more folks are moving in this direction. Frankly, I don't think I'd ever drop cable, I supplement my viewing with the Netflix/Hulu/Roku. I enjoy the feeling of watching TV "live".
Members Khan
And me? I enjoy the days when you had only three networks to choose from. It might be a tad too old school for some of you here, but there it is.
