HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Member

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

I wonder how long it will be before HBO and the like, realize how much revenue they're losing because they don't have any kind of subscription service outside of Cable. Or if their cable contracts prohibit that (which my guess is more likely).

I read an article that was about why HBO can't do that right now. I can't remember the reasons.

I think that day is coming sooner than HBO wants to admit. From the NYTimes: Seeing HBO’s ‘Girls’ Without Buying a Television

I give it a year, tops, before HBO Go becomes a stand-alone subscription.

Personally I cut the cord ages ago, (or more accurately the cord got cut when the cable I was getting for free vanished). Now I get all my TV through streaming and I couldn't be happier. That's why the news that these shows will be available on Hulu was kind of the tipping point for me. Last year when it seemed like the shows were only going to be available on that pitiful little website, I wasn't hopeful but Hulu and iTunes makes them available to a large selection (the majority?) of the mainstream. That makes them genuinely competitive.

Yep, Susan is doing her thing as expected, hanging with her fellow celebrities. I recall shaking my head as people actually tried to debate about whether or not Susan is the most famous soap actor. She was able to sustain her celebrity in a way that Tony Geary and Genie Francis were not. It is amazing Susan's longevity and widespread recognition. I will never forget watching the Daily Show during the election and having her randomly showing up to do soap humor with Jon Stewart a few months ago. It is that kind of thing that will keep her in the public consciousness.

Susan's hobnobbing with Oprah and Tyler Perry and everyone else is arguing over whether or not Michael Easton is going to have a job. It's hilarious.

Perry needs to put SuLu in one of his movies, stat. Granted, I hate most of his movies and cringe every time an actor I like ends up in one of them but I acknowledge their popularity and the money they make.

Erika Sleazak is definitely a very talented actress, I will absolutely give her that, but frankly, she's not even the same league as Susan Lucci in terms of sex appeal, and she never has been.

I've always felt like Sleazak wasn't interested in mainstream fame or recognition. She struck me as someone who enjoyed doing what she did and then living the rest of her life. I've often been surprised that she didn't at least try to get involved in the theatre scene more because she's always struck me as a natural stage actress more than someone who would do a lot of TV. (To this day I think ES could rock the hell out of the role of the mother in August: Osage County provided her legs could handle it. LOL!) But to achieve Lucci levels of fame, you have to want to be famous. I've never seen any indication ES wanted that.

LMAO. I'm not even going to ask how you got "free" cable. wink.png That's kind of awesome tho. Thanks for the link. Now the only thing left is the big sporting events and I'm set to go "cordless" too. Unfortunately until the Super Bowl and March Madness are available streaming? I can't. HBOgo and Maxgo also have so much more to choose from than my HBO On Demand does. I've loved it, and really enjoy watching on my tablet. My one problem is, now my family can all be sitting in the same room together . . . with our headphones on and watching different things. I guess that's better than all being in separate rooms watching different things, but it's kind of isolating at times. I look up, and we're all there, but not.

It came with the apartment I was living in. I hooked up the TV set and there it was. Then one day a few years later it was gone. I've always assumed the cable company made a mistake and didn't realize they never cut the service from the last tenant. Now the free internet on the other hand... tongue.png

I've seen an article that said ESPN is the last thing keeping most people tied to cable. The moment somebody figures out how to live stream sports, cable is screwed.

General Hospital should just go ahead and kill off John McBain and Todd and Starr Manning and then let Prospect Park deal with cleaning up the mess.

Kind of like when you're a kid and you spit on your cheeseburger because you don't want your sister sneaking a bite out of it. Ha! That's pretty much how both camps have been acting so far, why not go full-throttle first grader.

thats real immature, not that it would matter. PP could retaliate and completely disregard all three's character's time on GH and pick up a year after OLTL went off the air with Todd in prison for killing Victor, John raising Liam with Natalie and Starr on the run with Cole and Hope

GH doesnt have the rights to them so thwy cant kill em off. I wonder if PP will undo Cole & Hope's deaths

IMHO ABC is at fault here. They knew the deal they made with PP. They knew PP could still make a go of OLTL. ABC acts like they were blindsided & thats so not true.

It would be funny if they had Starr, Todd and John's last episode with them all in a car going over a cliff.

How did Susan actually become so famous?? I would assume someone like Dee Hall or Erika Slezak would have been more popular or just as popular. I wouldn't call her a "Sex Symbol" and she is not the greatest actress out there (I would never admit that before the cancellation of AMC so I will take that back as soon as it it back!!).

She and hubby hired one of the top PR firms in the 80's, who wisely took advantage of her losing streak at the Emmys, and promoted the hell out of her movies of the week.

ABC will eventually surrender. They are just buying enough time so that enough of the blame will shift to PP. They don't care about these characters at all, and their "we are excited about keeping the 3...we are just figuring out how" is pathetic! I see a "we tried but PP was not willing to work this out" coming a mile away. I already had a conversation with someone on Twitter because she believes PP is trying to destroy the actor/performers' lives. Say what?! In regards to ABC, this is what happens when you are arrogant and stupid at the same time. No matter what shape PP was in, Valentini and Co. should have secured the characters. They have no argument here! If the actor/performers wish to stay at GH, that's fine, but PP does not have to compromise at all!

Yeah. That will be really interesting. PP dictated "cliffhangers" for OLTL as it went off the air if reports are to be believed. I wonder how much control they have over the OLTL3's exist stories.

That would depend on the contract because, right now, the characters belong to GH so if its not spelled out in the contract, I can only imagine FRon being generous and allowing PP's input.

Thing is, you can actually get most NFL and MLB (possibly NBA) streaming already. Until it gets to the playoffs. And those don't usually air on ESPN anyway. They are network. The SuperBowl is airing on CBS. There is a watch ESPN app, so I would assume most ESPN is available on that. I just haven't really explored the app yet.
