GH: Valentine's Day Supercouple Marathon

This GH Valentine's Day marathon is a real disappointment. This show has 50 years of great super couples. But what do we get? Two episodes featuring Sonny and Brenda. Two episodes featuring Sam and Jason. Where is the sense of history? Sure, we got glimpses of late-stage Luke and Laura, with cameos from Mac and Felicia, Sean and Tiffany, Ned and Lois, Robin and Patrick. But, my goodness, where were Robert and Holly, or Robert and Anna, or Anna and Duke, or Frisco and Felicia, Alan and Monica, or Luke and Laura in their heydey? Good grief, most of the episodes are from late-stage dreary GH, when the rankings were tanking. This was NO LEGITIMATE celebration of GH's BEST supercouples, at all. Clearly the fans who voted are late-comers to GH with no sense of or interest in the historic supercouples that actually made this show a legend. No more letting the fans vote!!!

Given my disappointment with the Valentine's Day marathon -- poor choice of episodes mostly from the dreary Guza era -- I have EXTREMELY LOW expectations for the upcoming 50th anniversary's 50 hour marathon on SoapNet. Ideally there would be one killer episode from each one of the fifty years of the show's history. If not that, than at least five or six from each decade. It will be a real crime if the early years of Steve, Audrey, Jessie and Phil, not to mention head nurse Lucille (Audrey's much older sister) are completely ignored. They were the foundation of the show. I also remember other characters that are now forgotten, like Howie and Jane, Sharon and Henry Pinkham... Given the fifty year history, you shouldn't lop off the beginnings, just because younger viewers might be turned off by black and white and by lead characters that were older. But I do expect that will be the plan, to ignore the complete history on this historic occasion.

I want to marry this post. I knew the couples that would be featured would be L&L and S&B (while legitmate supercouples, I've seen just about every episode with them now) and recent couples Lante, Scrubs and Jasam. What's the point? We've seen all of these recently. Zzz.

Yea, I'm not getting my hopes up with SoapNet's 50 hour marathon. It will be L&L, S&B and everything recent. Zzz. SoapNet doesn't even think Robert & Holly or even Robert & Anna were even worthy enough to be VOTED for on the supercouple poll. I highly doubt they'll get any airtime from SoapNet. mad.gif Seriously, what is it going to take to get the 3rd most popular character in GH history (Robert Scorpio) some airtime? It boggles my mind.

IMO. Scrubs was the last new supercouple they've had in years.

They had so many ups and downs. And, they just seemed perfect for eachother.

They weren't insta-romance either. They were together a while before they finally even did it.

Scrubs has the popularity of it and they carried Night Shift, so they can bring ratings if the writing is there.

Liason could qualify given their longeivity

Yep. Even though...Georgie is on this one. Oh Georgie. sad.png

I miss her.

*Sighs hard*

I don't even have SoapNet and I can tell that the Valentines Day Marathon is, for all intents and purposes, over. Even GQ and Scrubs, the only true couples this crapfest of a show has had in the past DECADE worth rooting for, are nowhere near as watchable as those who came before them.

As a RnH, I'd gladly watch RnA's Valentine's Day Massacre over ANY post-2000 couple, except maybe GQ.

Erhhmmm...LU...NACY..... (DONT KILL ME ph34r.png )

Gee what a shocker Sonny is treating Alexis like [!@#$%^&*]

SCREW YOU!!! It was all....Damn,we got a badass over here....

I miss that opening...badly.

It reminded me alot of FOTH. Someone even did a mock up of it with the FOTH music.

I L♥ved this opening and the 03-04 one....and the 05-09 one....ph34r.png

Don't underestimate the young uns who started watching under Guza. As I am one of them. But, I realized the show had a past. So, I went and watched it. And, found it to be much better than the [!@#$%^&*] he was churning out.

FIGHT THE POWER!! UNITE FIRST TIME GUZA WATCHERS WHO REALIZED THERE IS A HISTORY!!!

I wish the Guza years could be wiped out completely

IMHO I never completely HATED Guza,he did give certain exceptions to the show. He did go all out when in came to catastrophies, you gotta give him props. Unlike RC/FV who really don't know the meaning of go out with a bang. But that's just me....

For this marathon, they should've let fans vote on stuff from like 2000-Present and then present their choice for classics from other decades. Or do it by decade and only allow a certain number to be included from each decade.

Nope. Never.

Shameful.

I know a few years ago ABC was showing vintage eppy's on holidays and there was major complaints about it from the supposed fans on FB and they stopped that really quick, man I was so pissed about that

Considering that the vintage episodes (and by vintage, I mean any episode before 2000) were a hell of a lot better than the crap that they consider to be "great soap", I'm not surprised that TIIC opted to listen to them instead of allow themselves to be shamed into doing better with the current version of the show.

I also think it was cause of royalties to actor's no longer on the show as well

I don't think SoapNet has to pay royalties to air old episodes....

I read something about actors who used to be on the show they have to pay when they use them in episodes, Disney(since they own Soapnet) not sure if it's true or not

Forgive me, but I thought the episodes prior to 1976 were destroyed, which is why the earliest that I've ever seen online have been from 1977 or so. Please correct me if I'm wrong, though, because I'd love to be so that I can see how GH was before the Luke & Laura years.

.

Exactly. GH has a fair share of B&W kinescopes from before then--going into the early 60s I believe. The AllAbout Erica marathon years and years back had two B&W --before then on ABC's Daytime to Remember they showed a different 1970 B&W AMC kinescope, as well as a 1964 Steve and Audrey GH episode (and then jumped to 1980), so I could picture them showing that episode and maybe another one--but I wouldn't expect much else pre 1978/77
