GH: November 2012 Discussion Thread

I don't know why people think the issue with Shawn is he is black. Why don't people look at the actor and his inability to modulate his voice or vary facial expressions? Perhaps in real life people do talk more or less monotone and with little to no inflections, but this is a TV show and the actor should try and put something into a scene maybe once in his career. Mute people give you more bang for the buck than this guy.

I've always liked Robin C's voice but I've often thought there was something strange about her diction/pronunciation. As if she spent part of her life in another country.

I've thought the same about Kristina Wagner.

Oh, Kristina Wagner is a whole other kettle of fish. I despised Felicia in that whole Luke era. Absolutely despised. She's okay now in a supporting role; I'm glad to have her back and the character rehabilitated.

Ok, let's talk about one of the other GH black contracted characters in a story. I'm willing to discuss whichever one you pick.

I don't think that's so. They had a number of black characters they introduced and used on OLTL. They didn't always use them well - I didn't care for a lot of what was done with the Evanses - but I vastly preferred their bringing back Rachel Gannon to Dena Higley and Evangeline. I also really enjoyed what they did with Layla.

I also don't think they were the first to really abandon Shawn and Carly. Garin Wolf was already doing that. He created Johnny and Carly, not RC - God knows why.

Garin was as much responsible for that as he was this DID mess. Sharly were not over until FRon came aboard. In fact, Wolf and Jill had them in a sexual relationship, but the scenes were cut and re-written. Ingo's stay was extended because he was supposed to be involved in the story, but he was called in by ABCD to a meeting and told he would not be staying. This is why Jax's scenes last year were nothing but lurking and then his exit. That's not what was going to happen initially.

The black wall paper on OLTL? Not interested in discussing that at all. Evangeline? Very popular and successful character that no one fought to keep.

If they wanted LW elsewhere, fine, but there wasn't the smallest attempt to do anything with Shawn/Sean, which wouldn't be so bad if GH had a black presence. They don't!

I am not saying there is not an issue with minority actors on GH, but in this guy's situation that is the least of the show's concerns. He can't act! He makes the girl who plays Kristina look like an acting genius. No better yet, he makes Michael Easton appear so energetic you could swear McBain is being played by Jm J Bullock on speed.

Terrible terrible terrible terrible actress performer who tries to sound more sophisticated than she really is!

Sean is a very good actor, and assuming he is wooden, why isn't he allowed to be since ABCD made household names out of many nonacting coatracks?

Every single hack given a shot on GH (with Ted King leading the way) is still better than this guy. There are a lot of crappy actors on soaps, but even Cameron Mathison knew he had to put inflections and stress words in sentences.

I respect your opinion, but let's be clear in that Sean being, as you say, wooden is not the reason he does not have airtime as we just established all of the pieces of oak ABCD gave airtime, stories, women, etc?

Can we agree on that?

I think he was hired because he was black and the show knew their cast looked like the republican national convention GH committee. He got to the show but couldn't act. Consequently, he got no story as opposed to the little story he would have gotten had he been any good.

I don't see Sean as a terrible actor. I often hear that about this show. People will say so and so actor that isn't getting much to work with is horrible than I see them booking alot of outside work. And the ones that are praised have a hard time booking anything beyond guess spots here and there.

He got on the show because he was black? If that was the case, there was really no reason to put him with the female lead and can Ingo. That simply makes no sense at all. Jill and Guza/Wolf had plans for him. Additionally, if it was discovered that he couldn't act and wouldn't be useful, as opposed to letting him go and recasting, 2 1/2 months later he's put on contract? Makes less sense.

You know they hired him twice, right. Obviously they must have liked his acting the first time. He played a different character years prior. Not saying they didn't put him on contract to be a token because they obviously did. But I don't think he was hired for the sole fact that he was black.
