He says his mother's side are Basque immigrants from Spain.

It may not be their fault but they have no problem reeping the benefits and it's not like they couldn't book roles as Greeks or Italians. And it's a way for daytime to skirt around having to cast actual minorities.

Didn't DAYS have some other hispanic family that they cast with white people too? And no I'm not talking about the Walker-Mendez family another one besides that one.

The Ramirez clan. Question is: What was Pete Janning??

Gering will tell you in a NY minute that he is NOT Hispanic! He thinks of himself as white because his heritage is Spain.

The whole Latino race vs. ethnicity has always confused me. I just take people at their word.

But I digress... I wonder what Goldsberry is up to these days.

I'll PM you.

What if Tyler Perry entered the soap industry, none of that Madea stuff, but sorta like "The Family That Prey". He write some good storylines in his movies, and with Reuben Cannon at his side as casting director it would be good.

For all my issues with Tyler Perry, he has a good sense for soapy drama. I'd like to see what he could do with the format.

Yeah he's like Jewish and Basque, which is a whole different ethnic group itself. Which is why it was a wtf that year he got nominated for an ALMA award(Kamar beat him) as was perfectly fine playing to role of Latino if it meant he got something out of it. After all his views on playing a latino character even htough he's not latino, "It pays the bills"

Well he played a latino so him being nominated for an ALMA makes sense. A heck of alot more than Tyler Christopher and his NAACP nom

IDA why should a non latino be nominated for an award that for latinos in media arts? NAACP nominated Tyler because he's part Native American and they reward people of color.

It depends on the nomination: was it best actor or best character

Actor not character. It was best actor and Kamar and Maurice were also nominated.

it should have went to Kamar anyway with those two in the nominations

In 6th grade, I played the white passenger who made Rosa Parks get up from her seat for a Black History Month play. Does that make me white now?

It did. There was literally no competition. He presented at the last ALMA Awards because he's a winner but they got rid of the daytime actor and actress categories sicne there was no one really to nominate.

maybe thats why they were loose with their selection and why Galen was nominated then

The NAACP Image Awards needs to do the same. At this point, it's just a matter of time before they start nominating black actors from the past. ("And the award goes to...the late Lynne Thigpen for her AMC role as Grace Keefer in 1995!")

Seriously it's embarassing that Tatiana Ali who makes about 10 appearences a year keeps winning.

One thing that cracks me up suddenly pretending the soaps are diverse when Hispanic Heritage and Black History month come along.

I remember the one year there was complaints of lack of latinos on GH so they decided to keep reminding us that Maurice and Natalia are latino. It was like nevermind the fact that her character is whiter than white, Natalia is half Mexican.

Yeah but then again, I really don't like questioning any actor's heritage. Obviously a character's heritage is up for grabs. If somebody identifies as Latino then IMO that's what they are regardless of skin tone. I did an ancestral DNA test earlier this year and found out I had oodles of Latino relatives and although I wouldn't identify as Latino, I can completely understand why somebody else would.

I'm just really uncomfortable questioning an ACTOR's heritage. IMO, the real problem is casting by skin tone. I love Florencia Lozano and I agree with the above statement that the only reason Tea was so authentically Latina was because of the actress' determination to portray her as such. If it had been left up to TPTB, Tea would be as culturally white as half-Asian Blair.

It wasn't about the actors being latino moreso as GH had no and still doesn't really have any openly latino characters in there stories. It was like them pretending to be diverse because they got backlash for not being.

Yeah, that's way too true and not just GH.

Subject change: whatever happened with Dayzee and Marcus on B&B. I was so shocked to see them get a promo for their wedding but I haven't seen anything since. Although I understand if the show is focusing on setting up Ridge and Stephanie's exits.
