Not with these charisma lacking actors or horrible writers.

Is it naivete on my part to hope that GH running in primetime would make the writers and actors actually step up their game?

Yes

LMAO! So be it. Consider it a momentary lapse. Back to cynicism and slapping.

Lol yeah these writers are hacks period and wouldn't be able to step it up with skills they don't have. I really see RC's next job script writing for a childrens show.

The only soaps that I recall in my lifetime that ever aired in primetime were General Hospital, Days of our Lives, The Young and the Restless and Sunset Beach (maybe Passions?). I don't recall All My Children getting a special airing in primetime, at least not in the last 15-20 years.

Anyone know?

AW had a primetime episode in 1992 called "Summer Desire." It did very poorly in the ratings, so the show never got another primetime episode.

Capitol's first episode was actually in primetime. I believe the same was true for Loving, Sunset Beach, and Port Charles.

IIRC it was a promoted primetime special airing on a Thursday night around the time of one of the soaps anniversaries.

It was due to ABC airing World Cup Soccer games during the summer of 1998.

Soccer and soaps will go head-to-head twice this month on ABC, and soap fans will come out on the short end of the encounter.

``One Life to Life,'' which usually airs weekdays at 1 p.m., will be pre-empted June 15 by World Cup Soccer games.

World Cup Soccer will also pre-empt ``General Hospital'' that day, but ``GH'' will air at 8 p.m. that same night.

On June 25, ``GH'' will be pre-empted by soccer games, but ``OLTL'' will air at 8 p.m. - with viewers finally learning who killed bad girl Georgie Phillips.

ABC Daytime president Pat Fili-Krushel said the network decided to show the two soap episodes in prime time for those two days, rather than simply pre-empt them, ``so that fans wouldn't miss a day of what will be some very exciting episodes on both shows.''

Thirty-seven billion viewers around the world are expected to tune into World Cup games this summer; the championship will be aired on ABC at 2:30 p.m. July 12.

It would certainly be a great way to bring publicity to GH, and primetime rules are quite different. Unfortunately they have already tried this with Night Shift, which was only good if you were a Scrubs fan (which I'm not). A nighttime GH would have to be given a far greater budged that NS ever saw.

It would also have to feature completely different actors sicne non of these people can carry a primetime show on anything but soapnet and maybe ABC Family only because ABC Family greenlights all kinds of crappy shows and keeps renewing them despite ratings

Well, if they were going to prime time, the solution would likely be to get rid of Cartini, place in Ed Scott as EP and Claire Labine or Sri Rao (both?) as HW and overhaul the show majorly before the primetime debut. It really needs to pop if they're going to primetime. Unfortunately, I'm sure Ed's loath to leave the Bell fold after what happened at DAYS but...a boy can dream.

^^ Oh, I think some of them could, but certainly not the Unholy Trinity.

Maybe a few, But sadly those are the characters at the viewers see everyday . I certainly don't see the actors playing Starr, Michael primetime caliber either. And the era of boring antihero types like sonny, Jason, and McBain are over and has been for at least 5 years.

As for the actors, the only way you'd really get the big viewership would be to lure Genie Francis back, promote the hell out of that, and drag back Emma Samms while they're at it. Ricky Martin to guest star? As long as the writing and production look good, those kinds of stunts might do the show a lot of good.
