So at least now we know why Anna is staying around - a custody fight. I get the feeling that this will push Patrick and Liz closer together, for Emma's sake.

I have not recognized anything about Anna since her return and now I know why - it's not about her at all.

It depends on how you view it. Her character hit pay dirt in her relationship with Spinelli, her rivalry with Lulu and with her mentee relationship with Kate. Maxie underwent a lot of changes under Storms and she was a completely different character from the previous version of Maxie but eventually the Maxie who KS played was a definitive one for the character as an adult and JL just doesn't work as well in it. Probably because the Maxie character seems so very fixed and specific under Storms. There isn't really any room for a different interpretation of her. KS did grow into the role but the role changed with her too in a way. JL is still playing KS's Maxie and it doesn't really work.

WTF is this sh-t? Her transformation was AWFUL!

I cant believe it took Maxie going up hysterically to Emma for someone to finally think to remove that child from that scene

Oh she was most definetly hated. Some of that hate came from residual feelings from her time as annoying Belle on Days, to resentment over replacing RR and then later hate from LnL2 fans and how despicable she was written during that story. I think Skin hit it on the nail with when things changed for her. Her time with Spinelli and becoming Kate's apprentice did wonders for her

Like I said, she was hated. Not KS as a person, but KS on the show. I for one hated her as an actress and Maxie once she took over and knew plenty of others that did. She got tons of hate among a LnL2 board I used to post at. She wasnt universally loved (or tolerated for that matter) as you might think was the case

Robin's funeral could have been better and could have been worse. I liked the use of flashbacks during everyone's eulogy and the pictures on the tv. I thought all the eulogies were well done. Robert should have been there but it is what it is. Maxie showing up was so awkward and getting in Emma's face. OMG I was glad Liz took the poor girl out. JL is doing a good job but she hasn't been in the role long enough and shared enough scenes with Robin so I can't really feel much.

I hate to agree with Carly but Jason had every right to know about Robin. Monica even said he was healthy enough to know what happened to Robin. Sam is just a controlling bitch. Hope he never forgives her for that.

Sonny/Connie scenes were just so awkward.

I thought she was having a seizure.

I think Kristen did some good work in 2007 and 2008, but Maxie soon devolved into nothing more than a foil for Spinelli, and a random bitch, thrown into pairings that the show didn't care about (like Maxie/Matt). I think that they just stopped writing for her character in any meaningful way. Now, without Kristen in the role, the hollowness of the material shows up, because they were used to her hiding the garbage.

Viewers still feel sympathy for Jason? I guess I will chalk that one up to another one of my unpopular GH opinions. I can't even deal with that character. I can barely even stand to look at Burton in promos anymore.

This is valid. A lot of what has come to define the Maxie character is her romances and she hasn't had a real one (or a good one) in a long time. The image of KS Maxie is still pretty strong though she had various things going for her. Her career, her friends/relationships, she fit in a lot of places as KS' Maxie. Not so much anymore.

    • All the time they spent trying to make viewers feel sorry for Chad only for him to not even last that long. I wonder if they knew Richard Burgi was going so quickly. You're right about Josie replacing Cheryl. On paper, this should have made sense, given all the ties Josie had to the canvas, but I did prefer Cheryl. There was something very synthetic about Alexandra Wilson.  I suppose even if she did have some fans they were just so used to getting rid of people left and right, so she was more collateral damage. As you said above I do wonder what the plans were for Peggy Lazarus. I think AWHP mentioned her once telling Peter that Peggy Lazarus wasn't her real name. Maybe she would have been another Carl moll... Rebecca Hollen never did get her due in her soap roles.
    • So true...Hackney might have had a story on FC with Richard being an old lover of his, but reveals herself to be a Cartel member and blackmails Richard with something into doing her dirty work  LOL. But of course Richard had his hands full with the double trouble sisters Ms. Jones and Ms. Braxton that season.

    • Cat herself will be a stumbling block all her own as she vowed to Chad to stay away from him, thus redeeming her of her crime morally. Classic DAYS would have them gazing longingly at each other at Doug's Place or Blondie's, while Liz is serenading the room with a song aptly chosen to represent their feelings of emotional turmoil.
    • From what I just recently watched, they were setting her up to go into future stories. She was Emmy nomination worthy in the material I saw. If some viewers did not like her, the character could have been rehabilitated after that sick storyline. It feels like they destroyed a character for fun and then tossed her to the curb. Spencer had chemistry with everyone. I'm just retroactively angry on Spencer's behalf.  You're right about how Cheryl was often forgotten and pushed aside and I would take Cheryl over Josie. I think soaps need characters like Cheryl. Characters like Josie are way too common. Josie always got on my nerves.
    • CBS was back in third place in 1994/95. That was the season CBS lost NFL broadcasting rights which also cost them several established affiliates in major media markets. 1995 CBS was sold to Westinghouse and Les Moonves arrived. 1995/96 CBS was trying to be young and cool to compete with NBC and Fox, but it was an epic failure and CBS was once again in third place.
    • I tend to think that Chad will actually listen to Jen (this time). And that will be the next stumbling block in their relationship, which will open the possibilities for Cat to seek another member of their love triangle... To iterate my earlier thought, I am also not a fan of the person Melissa Reeves, but the character of Jennifer looks so chic this week, especially in comparison to Hope (and Gabi).  That blunt haircut is a winner.
    • I think Cheryl was essentially replaced by Josie, and it seems likely that Lemay wanted to bring the Frames back into the picture and for a variety of reasons that it would be McKinnons who would make way for them. Cheryl didn't really get many layers -- she was pretty and kind and sweet and faded into the background so that Scott could participate in the AIDS storyline with Dawn. Looking at the AWHP, other than (not very) shockingly being in love with her mother's adopted son Scott, Cheryl apparently went out with Sam and flirted with much-too-old-for-her John Hudson and MJ's ex-boyfriend/pimp Chad. I know MJ told Mary that she had been a prostitute, but did she tell Cheryl and did she tell anyone about Chad's pimping?
    • I feel the same way about Melissa Reeves' Jennifer. She just makes the show feel like home by her presence alone. I am perfectly okay with them coming in every once and awhile, which probably fits Reeves' schedule better anyway. Their connections to Salem are still there: JJ, the grandkids, Jack still owning half of The Spectator ... they're perfect recurring characters. All this talk of Jennifer being in the wrong regarding Cat is absurd. Jennifer is not being villainized in any way, shape, or form, she's just being allowed to actually be human, which adds odds to the obstacle of Chad and Cat eventually getting together. All inner conflict. Keep it coming!
    • Hahaha. Jean Hackney, Angelica Nero, and the Falcon Crest henchwomen were all straight out of a James Bond movie.
    • My hunch is what you've described. JFP is likely back working on transitioning the show to a new studio and embracing new technology for its production model.
