Prime Time Episode of Daytime soaps in the 90's

The Y&R ones were VERY good. Exciting, well produced (and directed episodes) with a variety of characters featured and lots of action. Y ou can tell they took their one night in primetime seriously and made the most of it. The one with Victor getting shot was flawless and Jess Walton was to die for (who won an Emmy for her work in that story). I also recall lots of juicy stuff with the Barber-Winters clan.

I wonder if a soap got a primetime episode today how it would work out. I'd love to see B&B get one, mostly because I know it would be done well and I want to see the show in an hour format. I'd love to see CBS give either of their soaps a chance at that. Also ABC mentioned looking for low cost scripted series to air on Friday nights and I think a spin-off of AMC or OLTL would've been a good idea. Being a spin-off it could be whatever they wanted to, plus there is a built in audience. Compared to primetime actors most soap stars are cheap as well. I could see an AMC spin-off starring the Kane's being a success.

I think Brad Bell would incorporate the vets as well. Steffy, Liam and Hope should definitely be featured. I'd also make sure Bill and Katie have a major story going. Then make sure Brooke, Ridge and Stephanie are involved and you have a very strong primetime episode. I could see it being possible based on stories currently airing. I'm sure it would also be extremely racy.

I loved Days'special Winter Heat. Carrie and Austin went to Green Mountain lodge to make love for the first time. Austin ran out leaving Carrie alone in the cabin. There was a knock on the door and Carrie opened it thinking he forgot his key. Instead it was a masked man. Scared, she asks him what he wanted...he replied "You ". Freeze frame...

The attacker was, of course, Alan, who was obsessed with Carrie. He failed his in attempt to rape her and instead went after and raped Sami. His trial had Carrie taking the stand and being tricked into trashing Sami by the prosecution, igniting Sami"s neverending quest to destroy her.

Love him or hate him, JER sure knew how to set up story at his creative peak.

What was the name of the Days special that had Isabella going off of a bridge in her car when her wipers went out during a torrential rain storm? The last image of her ring finger floating was chillng.

That was from the first special, One Stormy Night in 1992. Isabella was pregnant with Brady and drove off the bridge, John was still struggling with the fact he was not Roman just as Tracy Middendorf's (awful) Carrie came to town and started by calling him "Dad", Bo and Carly had something going on but I forget what, and I think this was the special that had Jack and Jennifer trapped on the set of "Ask Dr. Love".

    • Today was a short one. Only 33 minutes.  The ‘Part One’ graphic at the beginning was pretty interesting though. I didn’t expect them to do something like that.  I like how everything was focused around John and his family and friends. Again, the acting and the dialogue was very well done and well written. And I love that they were able to incorporate Drake’s, “swing for the fences” phrase into the script. It was nice seeing everyone interact with each other, especially characters who don’t often share scenes together. It felt like every character was part of a big family or community. Plus, an outdoor funeral in June makes a lot more sense than an outdoor funeral in December.  But yeah, it’s very, very strange that Will isn’t at the funeral, especially since we know that

I would much rather he had been there today. And, where’s Anna too? And Jack and Jennifer? What was the point of bringing them all back if they weren’t going to attend the funeral? I expected Steve to want to close down BlackPatch, though I’d rather he just retire and let Paul take it over. But I like that Kayla was there to comfort him. I wonder if he’s going to change his mind at some point.  It was nice seeing Shane again too. Now, he just needs to have more scenes with his son lol but I enjoyed seeing him comfort Marlena. I’m not really sure about his interaction with Cat though? Was it really necessary for this to happen now, at John’s funeral? They could’ve waited a little longer to introduce this story arc.  Btw, was Tate bleeding from his head in his first scene with Arianna?

    • Now this strikes me as funny. I have it up on my acct. The thing is I only have S2. Didn't want either 1 or 3.  Perhaps I should just list all of these that I have up.  Parodies: Dirty Sexy Money, Filthy Rich Incomplete: The Monroes, All That Glitters, Falcon Crest (have all just not all up), Once & Again S2 only Complete: Models Inc, Pasadena, Pacific Palisades, Paper Dolls, Flamingo Road
    • This is wonderful! Thank you for posting this! I loved the first two seasons and never got to see the final season when they cancelled the DVD release. I've been hoping this popped up on streaming but no luck. Happy I'll finally get to see how it ended!

    • Arguably DAYS OF OUR LIVES has been brilliant lately & definitely was last week. But, here I am with nitpick & technicalities. This was the only misstep but it was just a stupid thing that should have been caught. Deidre Hall as Marlena has this one problematic line, "It didn't matter how many identities you had, I always knew exactly who you were, you were the man who saved my life." - Marlena, DAYS, 6-2-25 Unfortunately the flashback closest to it was when Marlena was on the phone, terrified because she thought he was Stefano. Yes, it's true that the line is not accurate. There were many times when she did not feel the way she is claiming because of whatever was going on in story with his 'retconned to hell & back' identity & origin story. Does it keep the whole week from being called excellent? Nope.
    • The Vault has been down all night.

Newsom is a craven opportunist, but his comments today were exactly how better people need to handle Trump.
