GH: Classic Thread

I have never heard of a soap erasing a child from existence and pretending it just didn't happen at all when it was a central plot point for a core character. Even AMC's Bobby Martin wasn't exactly key to the plot. So yeah, no, AFAIC she's stuck with uh... what was his name? Alec! That's it, I literally just had to check. But really, he can grow into a fine character

I think on paper the Balkan story - some of it, anyway - could've worked: A big bad crime family with a few prestige TV/movie actors (Benzali, the legendary Adrienne Barbeau). It was the execution and details with the son, etc. I found silly.

Oh I don't think GH would ever actually retcon the kid out of existence but I don't think even Brenda fans care that much about him.  Anyhow, he is a character that is ripe to be brought back and it would be fun for Joss to fall for him just for Carly reactions.

I wonder who the Balkan was originally supposed to be.  Did Guza just not have an endgame plan?  I can't imagine Suzanne was always part of that.  I was hoping it would be connected to the Rivera family or even a non-dead Luis or Alcazar connection, but, no, Brenda just managed to piss off another International crime figure.

I do not believe any son of Brenda Barrett's would turn out to be rugged hetero and nothing else, let alone hot for the deeply boring Eden McCoy, but that's another story!

I feel like they were waiting for a strong primetime actor and they got one. I have my doubts there was a rewrite on his ID except for some of the baby/Dante stuff, I think it was just a poorly constructed story with parts of it slapped together when Vanessa made them can the Dante angle.

Fair.  I wasn't really thinking of the heat Joss/Alec would generate just the hilarious histrionics LW's Carly would come up with.

I am just not sure the Dante angle would have made it more coherent?  S&B might have broken up, but would it have effected the Balkan's overall plans?  They just had no use for the kid anymore and Brante might have had to go find it together.

They both slept with Kate too.

I actually think they might have been headed toward a S/B/J WTD in 1997 after Brenda slept with Sonny in the caves.  They made a big deal about asking Brenda if she was possibly pregnant at the hospital after that and she flashed back to her and Sonny and stammered around saying she didn't know.  But then MB/VM didn't renew their contracts and it was most likely dropped if it was ever thought of.   It might have been interesting for Brenda to be pregnant with Sonny's baby after he left her at the altar and the repercussions of that, but the show wasn't as baby crazy back then.

I don't think the Dante angle was a great idea, but I do think they were forced to re-jigger the entire story around a son from a family we'd never met and tie it all back to an all-new backstory, and that made things even worse for something that was already poorly executed.

It was just a one night stand with very little impact after Sonny/Carly cheated.

Sam and Liz  (Lucky, Ric, Jason)

Courtney and Carly (AJ, Jason, Jax)

Olivia and Alexis (Sonny, Julian, Ned)

Those are the ones I could think of that have 3 off the top of my head.  I am sure there are more.

Yeah, I really don't get them bringing in a whole new big bad instead of tying it to an old one.  Or make it the Zaccarra's behind it to destroy Sonny or something.

    • Yes, that is why. I mean, not last minute but it was not what Shapiro originally wanted. First, she tried to buy the show. Then she tried to buy the character. Meanwhile several other companies also tried to buy the show.
    • I thought I had stopped & then I saw this post from you. To be clear I said I was wrong. I have not made an attempt at any backpedaling. There is literally no place to back pedal to. I did 3 things. I deleted. i apologized. I said I was wrong, egregiously so.
    • I think bringing Dano back to OLTL as her original character Gretel/Rae was a last minute thing because P & G wouldn't let ABC use the Felicia character. So even though she had ties to OLTL from back in the day, she just didn't fit into the OLTL of the late 90s/early 00s.. nor did she really fit into the other soaps at ABC either.
    • I don't think they were the biggest factor, but I do think there's a specific style to Dano's work that wasn't helped by how pointless her character often felt (and later on the various writers clearly saw the character as a joke).
    • I think Evie came in mid 1976 after Rita broke up with Tim because she realized she was leading him on.  And Evie became upset with Rita because she didn't tell her that she had previously dated Tim before she came to town.
    • Please stop, you were wrong, and you know it, now you're trying to back pedal. You even got called out by the DAYS actors/actresses on Twitter for that sh*t. It was disgusting and vile and IMO the family should have taken action against you It was clear the general public did not know about his illness and it was NOT your place to "spill the beans" just because you run a Facebook group, period! TBH IMO @Errol should have banned you ages ago Donna
    • Who went bowling? JFP & Anna? Is there any more to this?
    • Another character driven show with interconnecting plots that make sense. I like that we go from one character, like Sarah, learning that EJ wants to buy the hospital, casually mentioning it to Xander who now has that intel. The only down today was not seeing Steve and Shawn breaking into the lab. I wonder if Dr Poofy Hair will inform EJ about Xander's call. I loved Abe talking to Chanel about losing Isaac and giving her comfort. And helping her voice her fears about Johnny. Kayla standing up to EJ is great. Kayla, freed from Ron, has been great. I am loving all her air time. And Sarah telling her that EJ must be up to something if he wants the hospital is very smart. She would probably clue in to the sepsis research being the big thing if she wasn't choking to death. I assume Felicity messed up the scones and dropped in cleaning fluid or something. Sarah said it tasted weird. They are never getting that honeymoon, are they? Xander has no clue what job Johnny can do. Johnny knows this too. Xander wants to legitimize his takeover by hiring a Dimera. Johnny wants to stick it to EJ. The honesty is refreshing. I want to like Cat and Chad but they are just so awkward. And none of their scenes work for me. Marlena and EJ was very good. I like her wanting to help him but also scared to death for Belle. Makes perfect sense that she is conflicted. I also liked her softly asking Johnny if he needed her to stay once EJ walked in. Ron never cared about this relationship either, but now she is acting like his granny.
    • Sorry, catching up, and the bolded part, yes! Should have been sued by DH's family for that nasty sh*t too   Anywho, back to the show, Kristina is freaking nuts, she needs to be committed ASAP
