I would love to see them too. I agree about Brooke Bundy. She was a popular guest star on a lot of 60's.70's TV, but what bits of her Diana I have seen, she overacted the part. I was noticing how Craig Huebing reminded me a bit of actor Paul Carr and come to find out Paul briefly originated the role of Peter in 1969 before Craig took over. Paul appears to have played many short term roles on soaps. He was a popular guest actor on may series and films, I guess he couldn't commit long term to a soap.

Valerie Starrett had been hugely popular. I found her fluttery hands to be distracting at times, but that was a small quibble.It's a shame she was axed by a producer who would soon be replaced, himself. Brooke Bundy might have worked in another role, but she was badly cast as Diana Taylor, and had far less chemistry with Craig Huebing had had. 

 

 

Paul Carr simply was not very good as Peter, and did not have a lot of on-screen warmth or spark. When they replaced him with the more appealing Huebing, I was relieved.

It seems Paul Carr mostly played heavies. There are few roles I have seen where he's the good guy. I know he will appear on The Doctors as a dastardly Doc around 1976 if we get to see them that far. He also originated the role of Bill Horton on Days and had roles on Y&R and Dallas. 

 

How long was he in the role of Peter ?

I like Brooke Bundy in the clips I have seen.  But I've seen so little of Starrett so I can't say how I would feel about her.  I've watched most of the Heather/Diana/Jeff/Anne story including Diana's murder on YouTube, and it was an exciting run of stories.

 

GH is my favorite soap.  But when I watch classic era stuff, for me, there is a period between the black and white first few years and Monty that is deadly dull and doesn't hold my interest like clips from other shows during the same period.  

 

The Steve and Jessie early years with the addition of Lee are very entertaining.  And Monty's casting and actors held me through even the wonkiest stories during her era.  But what I have seen between doesn't hold my interest.

 

When you compare GH episodes in the mid 1970's to Days, OLTL, AMC, EDGE, even stodgy old GL and ATWT, GH is not as compelling.  My opinion of course.

Carr only lasted part a year as Peter Taylor, in 1969. He lasted slightly longer as Bill Horton, from 1965 until 1966.

 

 

 

I might have liked Bundy better as Diana, if I had not seen Starrett in the role first. The character's concept and personality changed so much with the new actress, it was jarring. Imagine Archie Bunker going from Carroll O'Connor to Mr. Bean, LOL. (I'm joking, but the "new" Diana was quite a departure from the original.)

 

I agree 100% about the mid-1970s GH era. After the Dobsons left as headwriters, the bottom of the show fell out and it was a total snore-fest throughout the writing regimes of the Hollands, the Pollacks, and the Elmans. I could barely sit through it. Only loyalty to characters like Steve, Jessie, Audrey, Lee, and Lesley kept me hanging in there. Douglas Marland's arrival turned everything around, however. Within just a few weeks, GH was must-see TV.

Monty famously throwing away about a week of filmed shows must have helped that quick turnaround, due to the production schedule at the time.  Good writer, compelling stories and top production.  When a show isn't gutted beyond recognition the right team could still turn any one of the soaps around.  But who would those teams be in the current climate?

I just had a through the mail autograph success with Sharon DeBord, who played Nurse Sharon for many years beginning in the 60s until the early 70s. She also wrote me a lovely letter. The screen caps I sent her to autograph were of her guest spot on Bewitched. Hopefully I can get them posted up here one of these days.

      The show has gone back to 10/10 entertainment! I'm glad that I was right in feeling that what were experiencing were growing pains. I'm sure they are not over yet, but I'll know that we always comeback to quality drama. I think it's going to be a hell of ride (in a good way) from this moment on. BTG has that magic that not a lot of shows have. I'll update more... when I'm done catching up.

      So very glad to hear this. Yesterday I suddenly thought; OMG, what about spoilers, have I just  ruined things for Maxim in getting carried away with interest in Evan, who was so well-written & well-acted. BTW, your fan review of this episode was a sight for eyes that had not seen one of these for a little bit too long, LOL!!!  Mitch is also fascinating to me but in his case it's because he was all in with Janice & her nefarious plan & then he did this turnabout we've mentioned & he basically got off scot-free.

      It does seem cheap and lazy for this show to have just one family. Passions was heavily criticized but it was nicely structured with a total of four families.

      I think it was definitely a surprising reveal in the storyline. I had a hard time appreciating Evan because I couldn't get behind his interest in Amanda. But that's because I never thought Sandra Ferguson made her a compelling character (although to give her credit she occasionally had decent emotional scenes with Mac or Rachel).

      I'll even go further... I'll make her re-think BeLief and create a new patent. Brooke needs stuff to do. Anything other than beg or be in her panties. We need her to be creative. But sadly Bradley has a very low opinion of these characters. To him Brooke is nothing more than sex and scandal... or a pathetic doormat. Ridge is nothing more than a chauvinist pig that needs to pit women against each other to feel like A MAN and Steffy is nothing more than her father's guard-dog. I don't even want to open my mouth about Hope. She is such a fiasco in my opinion... I will not suffer if they kill her off. Bradley pooped on her character and now it's too late to fix it. Annika is great and I would hate to see her go, but slutty Hope was not her thing. The vibe was missing.

      I've seen Jason interact with Mitch and annoy him. That's as far as I recall. I didn't even have a slight idea that Evan had a vendetta against Rachel... That came as a surprise to me. I thought Evan was Iris's dog and that's it. Now he's definitely more interesting.

      Uh-oh. Today just might’ve been the first Paula/Jeanne stinker. I have a feeling whose fault that might be though. So, Doug III is getting a job at the Pub?  It’s good to see him interact with other characters. I enjoyed his scenes with Roman, even though the talk of Frankie and Max seemed a little random. And it also could be really interesting now that Tate knows. Days really need to start pushing their rivalry again. We need some follow up from the punch. Tying it all to Holly, to Sophia’s pregnancy, to the guys that Doug III owes money to could be good.  But yeah, wayyy too much Leo again in today’s episode. Seriously, has anything changed with this nothing character? I thought it was all Ron’s fault, but maybe Greg Rikaart is (partially) responsible for Leo being so insufferable.  And yeah seriously, Rafe needs to throw all of these people out of his house. Including Gabi

      But I do wonder who’s the mysterious voice that Gabi overheard with EJ on the night he was shot. Based on yesterday’s episode, I have a suspicion.

      Add me to the group of people who think that Brandon has improved. He has. There's no doubt about it. Especially compared to the beginning. And he's improving in a way that... it makes me think that he realizes what the issues are and is addressing them. Of course, he's no master of acting at this point... but I don't cringe as much as I did. And I've seen people in Bold... I won't even have to name names, because everyone knows who they are... who are becoming even worse than what they were offering in the first place. So... I'm happy that in BTG... people are actually blossoming and improving. It surely means that the atmosphere is creative and nurturing talent.  BUT and it's a big butt... his relationship with his husband is still so lacking and ghastly. I am craving to see more action from these guys. I want to see Smitty's character. If he has any.
