Tina always has a legitimate reason for returning Llanview and they didnt have to dig up her dead mother to do so. It seems they were already laying the groundwork for Tina's return the other week when Viki was talking aboutt missing her and regretting how things went down

Seriously? What's manufactured? Melissa Archer auditioned (along with a lot of other actresses) for the role of Natalie Buchanan who was conceived by the writing team and created as a member of the Buchanan family. I think it's been well documented that she was almost out in 2004(?) before she capitulated and accepted the offer that was on the table. If she had not, tptb would have recast the role because the character was central to their storylines. The way they'd recast Jessica, Tina, Kelly, Kevin, Joey, Viki, Dorian, Blair, Clint and a host of others at different times. Unless by "chosen ones" you mean she was chosen over her competition for the role, I don't think I understand you. I think the term "chosen ones" applies more accurately to those actors who were sought out and hired and THEN the writing staff was charged with creating a role to accommodate them. Farrah Fath is an example. Renee Goldsberry is another. And to a lesser extent because she was a returning character, Gina Tognoni and I only say that because there was no real need for Kelly (at least that was what FV said when Heather Tom's contract was not renewed). and it seemed obvious to me for well over a year they had no idea what to do with her. When I think of the many capable actors who have come and gone in the 10 years since Melissa joined the show, many have left of their own accord to pursue other opportunities (Melissa Gallo, Jessica Morris, Erin Torpey, Tika Sumpter). Others were not satisfied with the contracts they were offered. And then there were others who were let go for budgetary or storyline driven reasons.

All the characters are manufactured. They're fictional so they're somebody's creation. How it's determined which are central to the storylines shifts over time, and yes there is a certain amount of good fortune involved, I guess.

Yep. Him too. I just threw out some females because we were talking about MA. Oddly, I would also include Scott Clifton, and Tom Degnan but things didn't work out so well for them. Brett Claywell was originally hired to play Schuyler, but Frons wanted Scott Clifton so they created another character for Brett. Josh Kelly was originally hired to play Joey, but then they hired Tom Degnan for that role and created a new character for Josh. I would argue that if there was already someone cast for the role and they got bumped for another actor -- the actor who then tookover the role is definitely a chosen one.

LOL. I think that just proves that even the chosen ones can be tossed under the bus for more favored chosen ones. K- Ish flows downstream, since Clifton was part of the departing herd in the wake of the crash and burn Morasco fiasco. And not a big fan of Rex, but I think Stacy was at the root of that failure and the departures were budgetary in nature to fund some high priced returns and the corresponding characters who propped them.

I think JPL was the root of the failure. He ruined every single scene he was in and I believe he even said he tanked the story because he didn't like it. Even Crystal Hunt had some OK moments. JPL and his girlfriend had zero. And the show then worked overtime to help protect Rex from a story that made many viewers loathe him.

I just don't really see Clifton as a chosen one, especially after reading about the way he was jerked around and then fired.

He certainly wasn't in the end. I was mainly referring to the fact he was "chosen" to play Schuyler who actually had a story penned for him. To this day I don't really know what it was though, LOL. They had a casting call, so there was a plan but it never seemed to gel. I felt bad for Brett Claywell originally, but he rose to the challenge for all the good it did him. I don't remember if that story was cut, and all the performers involved in it were let go to make room for GT and her posse or somebody else, but whatever it was, FF really never had another story until Shane's bullying story and Gigi's death.

I don't think it involved GT's arrival. I think they just saw the story as a disaster, and it had gays, and ABC Daytime has little use for gay men. I think the story also had a disastrous effect on how viewers saw Rex, which I doubt ABC intended - I think they believed scenes like Rex calling Gigi a whore wouldturn viewers on. This was also when OLTL suffered a large ratings drop and this story probably got a lot of the blame (this was also when a lot of the godawful stuff with Danielle screeching about Todd being her father was cut short and it became Tea doing her Camille impression). All the stories were thrown out in favor of Evil Eli.
