I am not adverse to change at all and Days needed a reboot of sorts. The fact that the show has been more watchable the past few weeks is only because things are happening and stories are climaxing to an extent. Days and GH are a lot alike or should I say Dena and Guza were where you can go for months with repetition and nothing happening and then a couple of weeks of things happening. I think thats why OLTL might be more watchable for some because you can tune in for the most part anytime and there is always something happening in one story or another to draw people in. I just don't like this idea of going back to the past stars, super couples, the days of the 90's. Why? What has trying to recreate something ever gotten anyone. Days biggest issue IMO is that they have had NO patience with their younger cast and that they have disposed of characters like Nick, Stephanie, Chelsea, Shawn, Belle while holding onto what? Had these characters stayed around, you'd have them aged now and close to being the center of stories and characters viewers would be invested in and wouldn't need to resort to bringing back "old faves" to draw back viewers.

That said, I am looking forward to the writing change and hoping Days actually morphs into something more compelling. I am only skeptical because Corday has such a narrow view of these "super couples". Its why bope always end up together, why John/Marlena will always be together, why Carrie/Austin will no doubt be together, and so on.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES confirms that both Deidre Hall (Marlena) and Drake Hogestyn (John) will be back on the long-running NBC soap. "We are thrilled that Deidre and Drake are rejoining the show," says Executive Producer Ken Corday. "I know their return will excite loyal fans and intrigue new viewers. We are gearing up for some amazing cast surprises and guest stars visiting Salem in the fall, launching a grand event airing on September 26th." Adds Co-Executive Producer Greg Meng, who traveled with Hall and Hogestyn while promoting Days of our Lives 45 Years: A Celebration in Photos, "At every stop on the book tour, families of fans told us how much Marlena and John meant to them."

All they have to do to get real viewer numbers is just make the show daring and relevant. It will be, at best, a quaint nostalgia-fest. I can tolerate that, though. But it won't really pump up the ratings in the long run the way a '10s version of '70s frankness would. They should open the New Days with a gay threesome or small orgy. :]

The funny thing is I think Days actually did just fine without them. I mean Marlena could have definitely been used at certain points for Sami but other than the show kept chugging. What Higley did wrong was fumble their attempt to re-establish itself. Wasting its younger cast was never a good thing, I'm actually surprised Shawn and Belle got cut first.

We shall see how all these returns play out. I mean 2005, 2006, and 2007 all saw major returns yet we saw how those played out.

I think this is all for one last hurrah. One last major adventure with the old-school gang. We got 2 good years left to enjoy all our favorites come home. Let's just enjoy the ride and the trips down memory lane and the promise that yesteryear (the 90's) used to bring. Will it be the same this time around? Of course not. It's 15 years later; they're 15 years older; we're 15 years wiser. But it'll be a nice treat to have them all back one last time.
