They would make more money collecting the licensing fees for years to come instead of outright selling them. ABC doesn't want to relinquish the full rights to these shows have them become successes elsewhere and not get a piece of the pie.

Thanks for setting that straight. I can't help but wonder how anyone thinks ABC will have any control once the shows are off of ABC. How does it make any kind of sense?

Certain people think they know it all. LOL, Frons is in charge of ABC Daytime those shows will no longer be apart of that so why would he have any say so?

Thanks Errol for setting that straight.

I hate Frons as much as anybody. In fact, I was hating on Frons before it became the cool thing to do. But isn't it funny how he's taken on this sort of mythical supervillain status? He's like the Dick Cheney of soaps.

It's cause it's ABC, if they can be involved in some way I'm sure they'll try. That's how skeptical they've made people LOL I don't trust them at all.

How much would the shows sell for? Licensing them is cheaper? 50 million a year is alot

I think the board I read this on and the "insider" were blowing smoke since I have gone back to read some of the other comments.Disney being involved in some capacity is diff than Brian Frons. ANd I can see Disney exec like Iger being on the board. But the BOD for a company does not run day to day operations they oversee the overall health and strategy for a company. And Disney does have a vested interest to an extent seeing this succeed. And that doesn't mean micromanaging either. As for licensing versus selling, there is likely a longer term financial benefit to this succeeding then perhaps selling the shows outright and who says PP had the money to buy them.

Where did you read about them paying 50 million a year? That's how much it cost ABC to pay for production of one soap in a year. I doubt they would be charging that much just to license the name brands.

i heard on Daytime Confidential podcast once that both shows would sell for and this includes the brand as well about 250 Million each

as for folks saying ABC is part Of PP, Im beginning to think some "FANS" dontr want to see this succeed and love playing conspiracy Theorist

I originally thought Frons was involved only because of the Julie Carruthers crap. Why would anyone on earth think she is a key to AMC succeeding but then thinking about it it makes sense to give the shows some level of continuity and she could be gone just as soon as they get their ducks in a row too. BUt I don't see why thinking Disney might have a vested interest in seeing this venture successful is a conspiracy and I am not talking about Frons. Its to their advantage to see this succeed And in some ways it would make sense and no I personally find nothing wrong with it even though people seem to think Disney is somehow the devil.

I honestly don't care if Disney is involved as long as they have no say on the creative direction for both shows. I don't mind Julie Hanan Carruthers and actually like her. She has been involved with a few shows over the years I have watched namely Santa Barbara, Port Charles and now All My Children. I think a lot of the issues that have been brought up about AMC over the years, that JHC has been accused of, smells of Brian Frons IMO.

I hope that JHC will only go with AMC to PP for a short time and they will either give her a co EP who can budget the show or replace her after some new producer learns the ropes from her

The issues I have with people like Carruthers or Phelps and even Broderick to an extent is that they are engrained in how soaps are and have been. Fresh blood and I don't mean just moving people up the ranks but an influx of new blood and ideas are needed. Since the EP is supposed to help drive the creative direction of the show I'll pass on keeping her for any duration.

soapsindepthabc Soaps In Depth ABC

Just got a bit of clarification re: #AMC actors. They have NOT been approached re: contracts. Prospect Park made a first offer to UNIONS.
