Ah, thank you both for the info.

I wonder what day-to-day's been like for the signed and unsigned. I'm sure many of them have enough dollars in the bank to live securely, at least for the time being. But it's got to be nerve-wracking wondering if there's more they should be doing for their careers in the interim, if some have been coasting on the "fact" that they'll be employed by PP, and if some pants were pooped when the news dropped about AMC being put on hold. Our days aren't nearly as long as theirs.

As Long as #AMC Writes Great Scenes That Lead To Compelling Stories, It wont Matter If We Wait 3, 6 or 12 more months. Fans will be there.

Wrong. Dead wrong. Fans will not be there. They didn't come back after OJ Simpson and many will not come back already, the habitual viewing has been broken. 12 months? There will be crickets chirping on an iceberg in hell before viewers return in profitable numbers.

Man, did that make me laugh...

I guess we agree to disagree but thats cool. Time will tell the tale.

I think no matter how much time passes, an awful lot of people will check it out out of curiosity, whether they stick with or not, who knows... I keep coming back to this idea that it's really hard to recreate a viewing habit, we're not just talking new time slot but an entire new format where the viewing time is entirely up to us. The world is changing and this sort of "dilemma" will be a non-issue for our children's children. A lot of us stream stuff online already, but it is different with a 5x/wk soap.

As PP itself stated, many don't have to come back. They claim they can get by with 10% audience retention. I don't understand how, but I guess if it is paid streaming it is possible. In any case, I am rooting for them. It's a real shame about AMC though. I wonder what would have happened had Susan Lucci signed on the dotted line first thing?

I think that up to a certain period viewers may have still come back - for instance, GH lost a lot of viewers in 1994-1995 but gained quite a few back in 1996.

Would that happen today? I'm not sure. I think with a good enough show, they might. I think it's a lack of faith moreso than people not liking a wait. Viewers have no reason to believe soaps will be good again. If they did believe that, then they might come back, at least enough of them to sustain a decent profit.

I stream OLTL and DOOL everyday from Hulu or NBC.com. It's not high def like your best samsung TV, but the commercials are fewer, and if you get lucky at NBC you can watch a 2 minute commercial for DOOL and then not a single interruption for the entire show. With 25 minutes of commercials, I don't think I could ever watch on TV anymore. FFing is ok but then it starts to get annoying when you overshoot and the DVR remote is slow to respond and you wind up at the next commercial break before it stops FFing.

What sucks and has always sucked about contracts is that they do so little to protect an actor's interest and so much to protect the interests of TPTB. PP can have actor after actor sign and this whole venture could fall through and to the circular filing cabinet those contracts go. God forbid Susan should sign and then decide to back out of an unsteady situation, that's when things would really get messy.

IA. I still like the "Return to Pine Valley" concept which could hook some peolpe in for the nostalgia factor but give them a chance to intro some new characters and stories that mght appeal to a new audience. But I am a pessimist and still think PP can say what they want about the project on hold, I think its tabled for good. JMO of course.

Completely agreed. I think I liked Broderick's AMC more than you did, but I think this actually makes a lot of sense. If they do want to launch what is essentially a new show, having some ties to AMC (since they apparently bought the rights anyway) makes the most sense, and actually has a lot of promise IMHO. I don't agree with DaytimeFan that long term fans have lost any inteest. It's a completely different situation, but GL did end and then essentially almost completely reformat in the mid 40s after a 9 month break.

I think it might be easier to get a cable deal with one soap since they only have to devote one hour. If it works, great, if it doesn't then it would be no big deal to drop it. I see absolutely nothing wrong with launching with one show. That was the original plan after all, to launch AMC in September then OLTL in January. Besides, every cable network has begun by launching one show at a time. Look at Bravo and AMC in particular.

I feel bad for AMC fans, but cliffhangers and all I thought that was a damn good finale, so I'm not too upset if it doesn't continue. That show went out on top and they gave us closure in the final weeks without it feeling like the show was ending. I liked that. I didn't like how with ATWT or GL it felt like a tv show ending. I feel like life is still going on in Pine Valley.

I do agree completely with your last paragraph. However PP *never* said or even really implied they were launching AMC in Sep, that was all fan theory I believe.
