They bore me, too... but for a purely superficial reason. These shows have yet to cast actors I find attractive. All the men on AMC are middle age and look it. GH has about 4 men they feature regularly -- and one of them refuses to take his shirt off due to his religion and marriage. OLTL has nothing but twinks.

Another member of Team Straight Woman here and I have no problem with shirtless men and I guess if you consider that the majority of the soap audience is straight women and gay men there's a two birds/one stone mentality to it. Lord knows, I consider shirtless Frankie Hubbard is a good time and my own version of the holy grail. Of course I consider any sighting of Frankie not in scrubs a miracle. And we've certainly had enough discussions in the AMC threads about Jacob Young's ghetto booty as well as those days last year when some of us were referring to Tad, David, Caleb and Jake as the "Gut Quad" to show that AMC fans can appreciate the shallow. I can't stand Ryan but I remember back when Ryan and Madison were in a hotel room I found myself thinking shirtless Ryan could be very nice. But even then it was more in the context of "Go Madison! Break yourself off a piece of that Kit Kat bar."

Grimace? LOL!

I think it's something different. I think it's more about the fact that someone thinks shirtless David or Ford negates the flaws in the story. David in speedos is supposed to make up for the fact that he wore out his welcome ages ago and shirtless Ford is supposed to obliterate the fact that he was a sexual predator who boned a teenager who was his student and had unsafe sex with a mentally ill woman who didn't know what year it was. Plus, cheering on "the gayest soap in daytime" means they don't have to trouble their beautiful minds thinking about how the women are portrayed.

l wish I could take credit for Grimace, but I think R Sinclair first used it to describe Uncle Jamey.

That's what I was trying to say. Honestly, that all goes into the show's sensationalism/style-over-substance thing. Too much crap on that show is there to turn your head from the horrible storylines. I wouldn't mind gratuitous half-nudity if I didn't feel like it was there to distract me from the shitty stories.

I don't mind having characters who are there primarily for looks either if they're in their place. Give me a hot recurring bartender who listens to problems and gets invited to parties and weddings. Give him some light story every now and then, but I don't need to see him stuttering the story of how he was abused as a kid.

If you watch the Edge of Night episodes that are available on Youtube, there are all kinds of hot guys - Steve, Miles, Draper, Logan, Cliff. Most of them are lucky to have unbuttoned shirts. It's about caring for the person you're watching, and about them having a presence, and some sensuality. There's none of the desperation which started creeping up on soaps in the 90s.

Correction: it appeals to Frank and Ron, so that's why they continuously do it.

Think Jacob Young could send some of his booty over to Josh Kelly? He's got plenty!

So that's explains the look on Morris' face!

Steve Burton is Jewish?

Exactly Frank and Ron love the shirtless men. They might as well just write and produce a gay porno together.

I like Josh Kelly. They all dont have to look like Jacob Young....lol

Morris?...lol I was referring to Frank and Ron.

Who wants to see Burton shirtless anyways?...ewwwww

I think he has done shirtless scenes though before.

Steve Burton is a Christian. That's why he objects to the shirtless thing.

The standards of what is sexy has changed over the years. Some actors who were thought to be hunky back in the day, would never get play now. I'm thinking the men of Ryan's Hope in the 1970s (from watching SoapNet), if you look at most of them people wouldn't think they were outrageously handsome.
