Charlie Sheen wasn't hot so much as he had become a freak show.

And he was replaced pretty quickly too. CBS didn't exactly find him indispensable.

I wouldn't call Lucci a hot commodity.

By soap opera actor wise, she *is*. I have so many friends who would never watch a minute of any soap opera and they ALL know who Susan Lucci is. I mean it's all relative, but there's already been a lot of complaining by some fans that AMC has gotten more attention, despite lower ratings, with being canceled over OLTL, with much of the thought about that being because Lucci is on it.

But that doesn't really count for a hell of a lot these days. She's queen of a dying genre. That doesn't make her a hot commodity.

Exactly. They've already made significant investment. That's why I think this is a negotiating tactic.

Right. I also think it is more viable for them to launch the two shows on whatever system they're doing it, and not just one. I know many people watch one or the other and not both, but it just seems to me that having more than one show would make it more appealing (which is one reason why I thought AMC wouldn't be launched till Jan--although obviously another reason was that they simply seem to need more time to work out exactly what they're doing).

And sorry Dragonflies, I know we tend to dsiagree much more trhan agree, but I think it's ridiculous to say this development means AN and LB need their asses kicked for how they're writing the show. It's another thing to be disappointed with how it's being written--but if indeed PP did tell them to change things to help theonline launch, and the rumour is to some extent both women would be involved in the online version so of course they waqnt it to work, of course they're going to listen to those demands. If AMC is indeed now in jeopardy online, that''s not something they could have known.

By soap standards she isn't just a hot commodity, she is the only commodity. No other soap star matters to pop culture and the press. But her fame is only good as long as she is in daytime. Once she leaves AMC she is nothing but a footnote and a question for Trivial Pursuit. No one wants her, she has no future as a dramatic actress, and I imagine that is why she is trying to initiate her own prime time deal. Nobody is offering her one, not even ABC.

Well... yeah But I think if she was doing the online version, her promotion, the amount of shows like Ent Weekly which would run stories with her, etc, would do more to advertise the online soaps than, say, having Erika Slezak do the same, if she even would be asked to. (And I don't mean any disrepect to Erika).

Wait, forgive me if I'm reading it wrong, but the SOD article says that the PP/SuLu issue is not salary at all. How is that "the same" as what Deadline is reporting?

Have they even paid anything for the show yet? Plus if it's a gov't thing then it's not even out of their own pocket, I think they can drop the show if they haven't invested a whole lot as of yet.

I'm wondering if PP wanted SL in an exclusive contract/deal and she balked at that

I can't really disagree with any of that, though she probably could do decently with Lifetime movies and primetime cameos.

They DID pay for the sets, we pretty much had that confirmed. Plus I seriously doubt the government funding thing is paying for it all. It's a grant to help out.

Susan has EVERY RIGHT to do whatever she wants. She has a fanbase, and she IS All My Children (Besides Agnes Nixon).

I really hope a contract can be reached ASAP; so the rest of the AMC cast will have a chance.

I wonder if this is another pressure tactic--SuLu always seems terribly responsible for thinking about the other actors and crew--and if PP makes it sound like AMC's whole cast might not have work because of SuLu...

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!

I think Eric Braedon is in the same class. Almost every guy I've dated over the years knew who "Nikki and Victor" are. Either way, Susan Lucci is a class act and I hope she gets what she wants. If that's a better deal with PP, I hope she gets it. If it's to be done with soaps, I hope she has success in other ventures. Unlike most, I think PP will proceed either way.
