Did they say they were planning 2 brand new soaps? I dunno, I can't see a lot of the longterm fans moving over, especially if they were mad about ABC canceling their shows would they show more loyalty to new shows at PP?

Yes, PP have 2 soaps under development. One is titled Diplomatic Immunity but can't recall the other.

PP will get the long-term fans to move over and invest in their version of AMC/OLTL... then slowly hope to get them hooked on their new soaps, too. If PP pulls the plug on AMC and OLTL after 1-2 years they can say, look we saved them and did our best but couldn't financially make it work. Soap fans will buy that, IMO.

AMC and OLTL need to be modernized badly to suit digital media and primetime audiences and yet PP is keeping the same old personnel.

"Diplomatic Immunity" sounds like another one of those "characters welcome" sort of shows from USA.

Otherwise the people watching PP can look forward seeing more Gigi/Rex or watching FF and JPL as a recast Zendall.

And if that happens, then I'll know God hates me.

PP already produces one of those: Royal Pains.

Then let me guess: DI will be about someone who poses as a foreign diplomat in the U.S. to escape being convicted for some crime he'd otherwise be picked up for if the police could see through the paper-thin ruse. rolleyes.gif

I'm so bleeding tired of that kind of series.

Yep..... I love Royal Pains! It's sorta like a soap, so, PP has a little experience with the genre.

Scenarios like this one are why I repeatedly have warned AMC & OLTL soap fans not to get their hopes up. Because none of us knows how trustworthy the PP executives are, we cannot assume that they have the best interests of the AMC & OLTL fans in mind. I worry that the real intentions of PP executives are to lure the Nixon soaps over to their online network (in order to gain the loyalty of those shows' fans), and then pull the plug on those those shows (only after a year or two) and replace them with PP's own pet projects.

I just don't see why a network would spend millions of dollars to try to lure people into watching their other shows.

The flat fee to watch I bet is for their entire platform. If you pay so much per month you are liable to check out other shows besides AMC/OLTL and get your money's worth. Netflix relies on that strategy already.

It's a win-win for PP.

If AMC/OLTL do well, they keep the shows and invest then in modernizing them and growing their viewership.

If AMC/OLTL do not do well, they keep them on long enough for soap fans to get addicted to some of their other programs.

Honestly, I don't see anything sinister here. PP honestly would like AMC/OLTL to succeed but their real goal is to gain their audiences attention. That is the goal of every network really... gain a market niche and expland upon it.

I just am disappointed PP isn't out of the gate investing in truly revitalizing AMC or OLTL.

If AMC and OLTL are a hit then they keep them and their viewers may tune into other

It's called buying market share, CarlD2

Michael E. Knight appears to have turned PP down (for now).

MEK so eloquently spoke out on SL's behalf.

But I have never bought she didn't know AMC was in huge danger. I do believe "someone" by the name of Brian Frons is furious she gave up being his PR cheerleader though...

I guess I just don't know if they would make the investment if it was just to push their new shows. I think they do genuinely want the shows to succeed, they just may be leaning too much on the personnel of the last few years.
