Members IMissAremid
Y&R: Nick/Phyllis - Loved Joshua Morrow's Nick when he was first introduced for the first several years and really enjoyed old Nick and Sharon. But Nick's pretty much been meh to barf to me since he started panting after Phyllis's old ass. DAYS: Chloe/Brady - Loved Chloe as the "ghoul girl" she was with Philip as a teen. Unfortunately she turned into a vain diva as soon as they started writing her for Brady and the character has been a mess ever since. Carrie/Mike - Carrie Brady was so so rootable in the Lucas/Sami/Austin/Carrie quad and she was positioned to be such an amazing heroine of DAYS. It all unraveled though when she cheated on Austin with Mike. Even if I'm not a die-hard Austin-Carrie person, and even if Austin was such a spectacular moron for always going back to trusting Sami, I really believed that Carrie loved Austin and she had so hard to win him and I rooted so much for him to win him that it just pissed me off that out of nowhere it seemed like she just gave up and let Sami win. I've never looked at Carrie the same way after that storyline and I think it was the character's undoing on the show. Sami/Rafe - Although it was certainly taking its toll, I still found Sami watchable throughout the whole Ejamicus triangle of doom of 2007-08. Then Rafe came on the scene after her second pregnancy in as many years and ever since she's been a pathetic, boring snooze with no job, no ambition, no longer any ability to lie or scheme. And as a slap in the face to fans of any other pairing of Sami's, she is now constantly trying to give all her kids with other men to this Dudley Doucheright with no backstory and no other purpose but to tell her to stay at home while he investigates things until he can come back home and put his dick inside her. Bo/Carly - I'm no Bope4Ever shipper by any means and was actually looking forward to another round of Carbo when CC was announced to return. Unfortunately the way the show put Bo back into bed with Carly so quickly and the reason they gave for Bope's breakup to allow for that to happen (Ciara's kidnapping) was just done so poorly that it made me dislike Bo quite a lot, which I found odd because I was always on Bo's side when it came to his actions with Billie and thought Hope was kind of a shrew who didn't deserve Bo that whole year she was with Patrick. Even now that Bo and Hope are back together I'm still not digging Bo right now. OLTL: Brody/Natalie - Really really liked Brody and rooted for Brody and Jessica until the Brat sex happened. The repeat is even worse. Anyone in love with Natalie. Anyone in love with John McBain. PASSIONS: Miguel/Kay - Poor Charity. So pissed that Miguel turned out to be such a stupid douche. Hank/Ivy - Poor Grace. So pissed that Hank turned out to be such a stupid douche.
Members juniorz1
B&B Brooke & Ridge- I actually have always been a Brookie and rooted for Bridge all through the 90s, but once they paired her with Thorne, I pretty much went APESHIT when she suddenly woke up obsessed with Ridge again and broke it off with Thorne for NO REASON! Brooke & Nick- Once I accepted that the show wasn't going to put her back with Thorne (he'd married Darla), I FINALLY accepted Bridge. Then she slept with Nick when she thought Ridge was "dead" and she moved on to her most BORING snooze-worthy pairing EVER on B&B. Blech. Nick always has been and always will be a vortex of SUCK on B&B. It says something when the only co-star he's had actual chemistry with is Susan Flannery... DAYS Mike & April- I actually really liked Michael T. Weiss's Mike, ESPECIALLY when he was with Robin. But once they paired him with April, it all went downhill. And then choosing April over Robin when she returned?!? ***shudders*** Ro-John & Isabella- Isabella was the pits. HATED her and she bored me to tears. I really liked him with Diana, but always pined for Marlena's return. Marlena & Roman (91-94)- Sucked because I LOVED them in the 80s during their first go-round. But when he returned in 91 shortly after her, the magic was gone. Santa Barbara Cruz & Kelly- Worst. Couple. Ever. Eileen Davidson was gross looking and terrible as Kelly. I can't say that enough. Ted & Lily- He belonged with Angela in the end. Period. Gina & Bunny- I just didn't like Bunny period. He was such a forced character. What SB did so well was have characters who naturally had a sense of humor. But Bunny was just too much of a joke in and of himself and I never could stand him because of it. Kelly & Jeffrey- I never liked them together and thought that coupling ruined her. Though I never thought they'd be an actual couple, I always felt sorry for Pearl in that storyline. Julia & Michael Donnely- Though it was short-lived, I never could understand what Julia saw in that boring priest. Terrible character. Scott Clark & Celeste- I really liked Scott with Heather and again, couldn't fathom what he saw in that God-awful and ugly Celeste. OLTL Max & Luna- Why they wasted Max Holden on that kook-a-doodle Luna Moody is beyond me. He sizzled in ALL of his other pairings until dull as dishwater Luna came along. I got such perverse pleasure out of watching him rip off Blair's clothes in that Atlantic City hotel room and bang her against the walls. It was a catartic moment for me. Marty & Patrick- She belonged with Dylan Moody IMO. Patrick sucked the life out of her. Nora & Sam Rappaport- Just......no. AW Rachel & Ken- It was too soon after Mac and too forced. I was on Team Iris on this one. Felicia & Lucas- I loved her with Mitch Blake and was pissed when Lucas came along and ruined that. Jake & Paulina (Judi Evans)- Sorry teplin but Judi Evans bored me to tears and was never "Paulina" to me. She was just Adrienne Johnson with money. And I HATED Adrienne (always rooted for Anjelica to be with Justin). Cass & Nicole- LOVED him with Kathleen but couldn't stand Nicole. ATWT Katie & Henry- I loved both characters as co-conspirators but the show NEVER should have went there with them. Mike & Jennifer- Matie all the way baby! HATED him with St. Jennifer. She sucked the life out of him IMO. Casey & Maddie- I totally loved Zach Roerig's Casey and though his romance with Maddie was sweet, I always rooted for the snotty popular girl. Casey was a cad and a jerk and I liked him that way. Meg & Paul- Oh. My. GOD! I cannot say enough about how AWFUL this pairing was. I LOVED Meg during Marie Wilson's first year on the show and she was quickly becoming one of my favorite characters, but the minute the writers paired her with Paul, everything went to hell. Emily & Paul- Though I ended up LOVING them together, I HATED everything Emily was doing to Jennifer in the name of Paul. She acted completely out of character and after this storyline, the writers really went nuts with her- having her kidnap Dusty and then making her a call girl. When she found her way back to Paul later on, the Emily I knew and loved was back! Jake & Molly- I know I'm in the minority here, but I never liked Molly at the time and was disappointed that ATWT decided to pair my Jake McKinnon with her. All of his chemistry was with Lucinda and that's who he should have been with IMO.
Members DRW50
If this was with Kassie, apparently it was cathartic for the actors too... Did Jeffrey have a mullet his whole time on SB? Why is every photo I've seen of April one where she's wearing a crop top? I thought they were flat but I had a lot more issues with Cass/Frankie. I remember this forced scene when he got back together with Kathleen and they went on about how he didn't eat fatty food now because of Frankie and he watched his cholesterol because of Frankie. It just sucked the life out of the character. So are we talking now about pairings that didn't make us hate a character but did damage the character? For me Vanessa/Matt on GL are near the top of this list. Vanessa became all but tranquilized when she got together with Matt and there was always the added, offputting specter of Dinah waiting to pounce on Matt. I truly believe the show would have gone there in 1996 if fans had not complained. Phillip/Harley - again, this was a soul-sucking relationship that started the path of Harley being a bitter, sour, humorless woman. Nick/Mindy - Mindy was so full of fire and passion until she met Nick. Then she became all about him. She whined. She pleaded. She pouted. He pouted. He condescended. A shambles. Mindy was so finished as a character that she all but vanished after 1995.
Members juniorz1
Jeffrey never had a mullet. I think you're thinking of TJ Daniels (Chip Mayer) and yes, he had a mullet the entire time he was on the show. Not me, mainly because I hated him with Nicole and thanked GOD Frankie came along and broke them up. Frankie was far better suited for Cass than Nicole and the beginning of Cass/Frankie was similar to Cass/Kathleen in that they had that adversarial thing going on that soaps were famous for at the time. Any time two characters of the opposite sex started off hating one another, they ended up being a couple.
Members DRW50
I guess I was thinking of this: Please register in order to view this content Did you know "Diva von Dish" trashed TJ up and down in her "icky men of soaps" column?
Members P.J.
I should be fair....the affairs with Simon and Holden made Carly unrecognizable to me. The minute she knew she'd been cheated on, she would have kneed the guy in the balls and left. And to this day, I loathe the fact she left with Simon. GL... Phillip and Olivia. HOlivia? Ugh. Ruined Phillip. RUINED.
Members Sindacco
DAYS: Victor/Maggie. I don't recognize him anymore. He's a complete wuss. Never liked Maggie and I hate her even more now when she's bringing down a character I used to love. Bring back the ruthless Victor.
Members juniorz1
I see it now. I'm pretty sure that was toward the end of his run on the show, but for most of it, he was a pretty clean cut guy. Maybe he was trying to compete with TJ! Members Skin
In hindsight I actually don't think the Babe/JR pairing was that bad it was just every day soap growing pains and now I think they really could have been mature individuals who really loved each other. It was just really bad during that time period because it was all happening in the moment and tensions were quite high for various reasons. I think the Babe insert Marissa kind of shows what the Babe/JR relationship would have been like considering if Babe were still alive today. I think GH has ruined Elizabeth. It was one thing to have her cheat on Lucky with Jason but another to have her cheat on him again with Nikolas. They ruined any good thing about Elizabeth when they did that and have only made it worse since which is insane because there is so much about her that is and could be likable. Members EricMontreal22
Greenlee and Ryan. He has so neutered her. I know many people on here dislike Greens in any incarnation, but when she came on during Agnes Nixon's brief return as HW, I think she was trying to create a flip on the Erica character--someone like Erica but instead of poor, she's a poor little rich girl. Anyway I loved her, loved her with Leo, Hell loved her with David last year. But with Ryan... Argh. Actually I've liked Ryan with everyone but her more too, but he was never a fave character. PS I have no idea why this post is in bold
Members Skin
I think a lot of writers of AMC have had an identity crisis of who Greenlee is in the first place and that happened as soon as she Duhmel left. So I wonder how much of that could have been changed even if she hadn't been paired with Ryan specifically. There was a huge void there and they didn't what to do with it. They had Budig for the long haul (3-4 years) so it just became about finding Greenlee a new love interest and that's when we got Carlos and Pablo and others until they paired her up with Ryan and they decided that was going to stick since his pairing with Kendell previously was very, very popular. They figured if they took one half of a popular couple and stuck them with another half they would get a hugely popular pairing but no dice. From that point onward Greenlee lost her fire so to speak but I think that is just a shadow of a larger problem. The real problem is that these writers have no clue how to write Greenlee because they have lost sight to who she is. I saw a small portion of her story line with David and while it started out interesting they cannibalized it by turning her into a victim and Greenlee isn't a victim. I don't even think she is really a heroine either. Like you said above she is more like Erica who is an anti-heroine. You love her despite the fact that she is vain and selfish and despite her reason for her actions. She is likable because she is selfish and narcissistic, etc at least that was who she was written to be at her core before other writers messed with her formula. I also think Budig dropped the ball during her consecutive runs too which didn't help things cause the writing certainly did her no favors. Members EricMontreal22
I agree, except, and I often forget this because of all the Zendall we had to suffer through, when they first paired up, for non romantic reasons, they actually were a fun and interesting couple for a brief while. Members DRW50
Greenlee was an empty husk of a character. Her character amounted to I grew up rich but didn't have a daddy. Poor me. Unlike Erica, there was no one in Greenlee's life who could put her in check, the way Mona could. She just went on tirades and then stopped every few months to have another poor me monologue. She was able to hide behind Leo, and the show making her various toxic treatment of other people seem "fun," but once that ran out, there was nothing left. I give the show credit for the idea of Fusion, as I think it was smart to focus on her business side. It's just that so many of the stories have been weak or about men. Members EricMontreal22
I still liked her I'm not a big fan of the Jack/Greens revelation but it does help give her some sort of moral compass I suppose. But MAN I forgot (or blacked out more like it) Carlos. God the Sexiest Man Alive reality contest, the fact he was prob the worst actor on AMC ever (says something), the story they couldn't stick to and kept changing. UGH. McTavish quickly got rid of him and we got Juan Pablo who by no means was a great character or actor, but he was miles better.
Members DRW50
The only time I liked Greenlee was with Jake. I'm sure I might have felt differently if they were a long-term couple but I thought they were good together. I especially liked that he didn't cater to the nonsense Leo constantly enabled. She also made him seem less stuffy and self-righteous...no easy feat for a character who had spent the last half of the 90's looking like an ad for Ex-Lax.
