I get that idea in theory, but Leslie is a sociopath. And (usually) you cannot reason with or redeem such a character.
In real life, there are things in the DSM (antisocial personality disorder) and ICD (dissocial personality disorder) that attempt to explain this.
Fictionally, one of the main characters on the current CBS primetime show Watson (neurologist Dr. Ingrid Derian, played by actress Eve Harlow) is undergoing treatment for antisocial p.d. But she's nothing like Leslie.
Realistically, many people experiencing this disorder are not redeemed.
Or perhaps Leslie has narcissistic personality disorder?
In either case, such individuals (sometimes? ) have an inability to experience empathy. I don't know if jail time would cause a change to that.
