This is great, thanks for posting!  I still remember watching this live as a teen and thinking how great this was for the time.

@alwaysAMC Could you help me locate an episode? I can't seem to remember what month it aired. Erica and Jackson had a dinner date on a boat in early 2011 (I think). I believe Erica had on a red dress.

Hmm - do you remember more about it?  It vaguely sounds familiar, but I can't pinpoint it. I skimmed through the 2011 episodes I could find on YT and nothing popped up. The closest I found was Erica/Jack having a drink, and Erica is in a red dress, and Brooke comes back to town and interrupts and Erica/Brooke have one final sparring session before I think the finale.

The only other thing I remember about it was that Krystal was working for Jack. I will take a look around in late 2010 after Susan's vacation.

I met someone irl who watched the show in the early 90s. Started watching with Kelly Ripa's first episode. I hear that so often from fans who began at that time. I would like to know from those who were heavy viewers during that time on what drew them to the show. Did ABC have a huge press release about their next big storyline, a big promotional push? I find that bit of information pretty interesting.

That is interesting, because that's when I first started watching. My story is probably different though. My mother watched AMC throughout the 80s, so when I finally came of age to comprehend and enjoy watching the show, it was around that time when Kelly Ripa first started, in late 1990 (~6-7 years old). So it was just by coincidence for me. My mother particularly loved Erica Kane and then Jenny/Tad/Jesse/Angie/Greg. So, she watched every single day after work and I eventually did with her and then we literally watched together every day until I went to college haha.

The first big storyline that really got me hooked that I'll never forget was when Janet threw Natalie down the well in 1991. I think that was super popular with many fans in the early 90s, and with AMC being on during the lunch hour, so many people would tune in during lunch to see what happened next.

Ironically, that was the first storyline on AMC that I hated from beginning to end, and I'd been watching the show, either with my mom or by myself, since 1981 or 2.  To me, it was just beyond the pale that Janet could deceive so many folks like that, even though it'd been established that she and Natalie were not identical twins.

@alwaysAMC I love your story. I wonder what it was, though, other than word-of-mouth about Janet's storyline. There must've been something else to draw new viewers to the show at that time. Were they airing promos during cartoons? lol Dan Kroll started watching during this time too!

Thank you! :)  When did you start watching / what's your story to get into AMC?

Honestly I was probably too young to know that answer. The first time I remember heavy promo through soap mags and commercials was the Who Shot Will? storyline, which involved Janet just a year later in 1992. So my guess is they probably had some good advertising for Janet/Natalie, but just not sure.

I remember my mom had an All My Children jigsaw puzzle when I was a kid, which had a picture of Erica, Jack, Adam and Ceara, which tells me that came out sometime between 1990-1992 since it featured Ceara surprisingly... which would have been around that same time with Kelly Ripa and Natalie/Janet.  Maybe there was other merchandise out there that got people's attention.

For me, I was a small child home during the summer of 1991.. and I turned the tv onto All My children and found myself loving Hayley and thinking she was hilarious... and I became an AMC fan.

The Natalie well story was far fetched, but there were two long term effects of that story... the introduction of Dimitri & Janet becoming pregnant with Trevor's child.

Considering that we had Stuart hiding in an attic, the whole Goldie/Silver story, and Erica yelling at a bear.... it wasn't as if AMC wasn't a little wacky pre Nat/Janet.

@alwaysAMC My maternal grandfather and my paternal grandmother were fans of the show. I became very aware of the show from being around them, but I do not think I watched until maybe '95. My grandfather had decided to give up on the show, but I thought it was the best show I've ever seen lol.

What hooked me was Dimitri and Erica. Liza. Michael Delaney and the different family units.

Hayley was so great, and I loved the Hayley/Brian relationship and watching him scale the house to save Haley when Janet was holding her captive.

So true, the Dimitri/Wildwind stuff was so good and such a great new storyline.

95 was such a great time too - and I loved Liza's return, with WRCW and all that stuff. If you ever have time, you should go back and watch 1994 with the tornado and the beginning of Noah/Julia. :)
