Soap Opera Weekly did that as a fun photo shoot - they did quite a few of those in the early 90s. That was reprinted in their 10th anniversary issue. I meant to scan all those but never did.

The others are Winsor Harmon, Cat Hickland, Erin Torpey.

Pine Valley Happenings mid 76

Joe did indeed find Ruth's letter. He has confronted her with it and the upshot is that she will leave his home. She tells him again that she was never unfaithful to him, but that she does need time to be alone.

Frank visits Nancy in Chicago and gives her the news. He has an interview the next day but if it doesn't pan out, he is prepared to stay in Pine Valley until the right thing comes along. She may be without a husband for a good deal longer than initially anticipated!

The Good Fairy Returns

Phoebe is back from her Minneapolis trip and in rare form. Under the pretext of taking food to Linc in an effort to save him from impending starvation; she bribes the security guard to let her enter his apartment. Once in, she searches the house for a portrait of Kitty to send to Mrs. Lum/Carpenter to further aid in their deception of Kitty. Just as she finds a picture, Linc is coming through the front door. She runs into the kitchen, and once he's in, tells him she was just bringing his some of his favorite dishes. "It's such fun to play the good fairy," she quips. Good fairy, indeed!

Just about the only real "good fairy" in Pine Valley is Chuck Tyler! He's convinced Donna that tutoring might not be such a bad idea. He's also hired Dan Kennicott as her tutor! Dr. Tyler tells Chuck he's becoming too interested in Donna, but Chuck feels that she deserves his help, and he's determined to give it.

Philip is on his way to Arizona to surprise Tara and Little Philip. Let's hope Tara is not the one who surprises Philip!

When Philip arrives in Arizona, he will have to tell Tara that her father and his mother have separated and that Ruth is staying with him until she is able to sort things out. Ruth can no longer pretend. She has admitted to Kate that she loves David and Joe; and is just unable to come to grips with a specific course of action. Kate is understanding and believes Ruth when she denies intimacy with David. She just wishes Ruth didn't have to go. They tearfully embrace as they realize that there is a parting of the ways in store for them all.

Kitty gets the letter from her "mother". She calls immediately and as she hears her voice, tears of joy stream down her face. Her mother is alive!

As soon as David found out tat Ruth and Joe had separated, and where she was staying, he went right over. Ruth is so glad to see him; so glad not to be alone. As she rushes into his waiting arms, she says, "I need you. I need you now more than ever!" David begins to question her about the divorce, however she is still too confused to make a decision. But David loves her and is patient. He tells her of their new life together and the happiness they will share. He pledges to wait for her, and he pledges his love forever.

Phil arrives unexpectedly in Arizona and surprises Tara. Initially she is glad to see him. Then she learns that he came without the doctor's permission. Tara insists that they speak to the doctor, even before Phil is allowed to see his son. Phil tells her that he's afraid of losing her and little Philip to Chuck. Tara tells him that this will never happen.

Kitty has asked Anne for permission to leave the shop for a few days so that she can be reunited with her "mother". Anne is very happy for Kitty and readily agrees. Little does Kitty know that (should Phoebe's plan work out) she may never see Pine Valley or Linc again.

Phil is not likely to see Little Philip any time soon. The doctor doesn't feel that now is a good time, perhaps later. Phil is upset, but makes arrangements to see Tara later that evening at his motel.

Phoebe Has to Ante Up

Kitty and Linc are all packed and on their way to Minneapolis to see her "mother". Although all her friends are happy for her and wish her well, Linc tells Charles that he has an "uneasy feeling" about Kitty's "mother." When Phoebe learns that Linc is going too, she is upset. Linc's going was not part of her well laid out plans. She immediately calls Mrs. Lum/Carpenter to tell her of the development. Mrs. Lum now sees the whole picture. Phoebe makes it very clear that she does not want Kitty to leave with Linc. Mrs. Lum seizes the opportunity to demand more money; either Phoebe will cough up $5000 more, or Mrs. Lum will tell Kitty and Linc the truth. Phoebe agrees.

Nick invites Erica to dinner. He re-offers her the job with the condition that she divorce Phil immediately. By the time Nick finishes wondering aloud if Erica can really handle the job and what she would do if she met "Mr. Right" and she weren't available... Erica is almost begging Nick for the job!

The rest results for Anne are in: she is a victim of toxoplasmosis. How will Paul tell Anne that their baby is in danger? The baby they have both loved and wanted and planned for, for so long. Fate has dealt them a bitter blow, indeed.

Brooke's boyfriend is coming to the Tyler mansion for a visit! It is only now, that he is hours away, that Brooke tells Phoebe the "Bitter Truth." Brooke's young man is not onlynot a college man -- he is not even from a "name" family! Tsk, tsk Brooke, you should know better!!

$5,000 Performance Begins

Kitty and Linc arrive at Mrs. Lum/Carpenter's and she begins her performance. Kitty stares at her in happy disbelief. She's with her mother at last after all these years -- she's finally with her mother whom she has loved so dearly. Linc does not seem to be so readily taken in, but is warm and genuine towards Kitty's "mother" when they meet. Under the pretext of wanting to be alone with her "little girl" Mrs. Lum/Carpenter gets Linc to leave them alone. She breathes a sigh of relief when he is gone. She knows that Kitty will believe anything she tells her, but she's not too sure about Linc.

Little Philip's doctor has finally given Phil permission to see his son. Little Philip is very happy to see Phil, but continually speaks of the wonderful time he had when his "dad" came to visit. Phil tries to pretend that it doesn't bother him -- but it's easy to see that it does.

When Paul comes home, Anne can see the pain in his face. She can see that the test results signal the possible doom of her unborn child. As Paul tries to console her, he tells her that their "options" are limited. To Anne, there are no options, for she knows that he other alternative is an abortion and this she will not do.

Erica is on the job and Nick is pressing her to keep her part of the bargain -- to divorce Phil at once.

Kitty and Linc had planned to leave the next day, but her "mother" has convinced her to stay.... Phoebe is sure to be pleased.

Donna is concerned for her and Chuck's safety. When she told Ty that Chuck had replaced the books he threw out of the window; Ty threatened her and Chuck's life! Donna has asked Chuck to come sit with her later that evening. She feels so much safer with him around!!

Donna decides to show Chuck how much she appreciates all the help he's given her... through the art of not-so-subtle seduction. When Chuck tries to explain to her that thanks of that nature are not necessary or wanted; she turns on him. In her fury and feelings of rejection, she calls Ty and asks that he take her home. Ty adheres to her request and comes to get her. She leaves the hospital unnoticed in a clinging low cut, red jump suit and returns to Center City. In Ty's efforts to take care of his "Number One," he's lined up some "johns" for her. That way she doesn't have to go out on the street, at least not yet. Thoughtful, isn't he?

Phoebe Unmasked?

Phoebe calls Mrs. Lum/Carpenter to see how things are going. Kitty has shown Mrs. Lum/Carpenter some of her wedding pictures and Mrs. Lum/Carpenter has recognized Mrs. English to be Mrs. Tyler -- the mother of Linc!! She calls Phoebe to let her know that her secret is out, but that for the time being, her secret is safe. In fact, Kitty is moving in with Mrs. Lum/Carpenter right now!

Brooke's boyfriend, Benny, overheard Phoebe talking to Mrs. Lum/Carpenter about the extra $5000 she demanded of Phoebe. Phoebe doesn't seem to be worried... maybe she's getting too cocky for her own good!!

There is still something about Kitty's "mother" that doesn't wash with Linc, but he's not sure what it is.

When Chuck realizes that Donna is gone, he's furious. He's determined to go to Center City. Frank advises Chuck against this, as does everyone else, but to no avail. Frank is very curious as to why Chuck is so very concerned about Donna's welfare. Frankly speaking, we are too!!

    • That would require Dani to think about someone/something other than herself.. and we all know Dani only thinks about Dani.  Including her butting into Nicole's business instead of just being a supportive sister.
    • I also hope there will be a follow up to Dani noticing Vanessa with Joey. We need another scene of them two together. And does Dani have any knowledge of Vanessa's affairs?
    • One of the soap greats. I wish I had a stronger connection to her, but her major soap stints passed me by. However, the way veteran watchers have described watching her back in the day makes me yearn for the glory days of soap. As a DAYS fan first, her time on the show is basically an enigma. As years have passed as a member of this board, previous and current members have talked in fondness about her obviously major story with Dickie and David's death, but even more interestingly, her romance/friendship with Bill, and the fascinating tangled tale of her encounter in the park with Eric Peters. It's such a shame DAYS never swayed her back home where she belonged. Though I am more than thankful RC and JG didn't get their grubby paws on her, especially with the horrible example of how they saw fit to write Marie and Liz's relationship with all the nuance and sophistication of a pigpen.  SSH's remembrance of her was wonderful to read, so thank you to whoever posted. Could be cool too if any of her Clear Horizon material popped up. Does anything of that show exist?
    • All this! Especially the highlighted. If today was any indication to what's to come, I see Mona and Shanice roles being beefed up. I personally think they are going to test her out with Doug.  I initially didn't see it for Kat, since the Eva reveal, and few of her scenes around it. Made me warm to her for some reason.
    • Agreed, pretty much with everything. The dialogue bugs the hell out of me. I don’t think a lot of it even works written out on a page, much less spoken. Even a veteran like TT can’t help but sound stagey with such purple prose. Re: the Duprees. I’m guessing that they’re holding their cards close to their vest on them for the various mysteries that will unfold, but I wish they weren’t so opaque and tonally weird as characters, especially in these make-or-break early days. (One reason why I wish they’d give up on keeping secrets from the audience and just allow them to speak freely, allowing the tension to come from what other characters don’t know.) Dani is giving Carly Corinthos realness, which isn’t a compliment. Oh, don’t get me started on the Black male characters and the tropes they’ve employed thus far. I had hoped a Black-created, NAACP-co-produced soap would be more cognizant of these traps, but nope. At least it seems like they’re playing the long game with Andre and Dani after all this feening over basic Ashley.
    • I feel like the reason they went with these two stories is because these are common stories told on soaps that allowed them to really tie the entire canvas in and help develop their relationships. I do understand the implications of having two cheating stories and these being Black characters but MVJ has always been clear that she wanted to show us the same way characters are featured on any soap. I don't think any story should be off limits just because the majority of the characters are Black. We have several positive representations of Black men so it's not like everybody is a cheater or a bad spouse. I also think the two stories and relationships are different enough that the stories don't feel similar in any way.
    • Well, on that point, I am one fan, and I know I'm not alone in this, who thinks that it is possible to have a time or times on a show where the ratings do not reflect the show's popularity & I think that is because it is possible for the metric to be broken.
    • The Anita scene with Ted was written all wrong. Dani should have come in like she did, all guns blazing, with Anita showing up and ushering Dani out, as she stays alone with Ted. He's ready for more fury, but at first she treats him like her son, not just some man Nicole married, she's confused and heartbroken, needing explanation. Then, she drops the motherload and tells him to get his damn act together like she did. Anita came off completely one-note. And with both Dani and Anita in the scene, the self-righteousness just made both look like harridans who wouldn't shut the hell up. Very disappointed in that scene. The scene with Eva was much better. It could be good if somehow Vernon starts to soften towards her and that puts the first signs of strife into their marriage. We need something interesting to happen with them, for once. Mona was the MVP today for me. I love Leslie and especially Eva, but I was firmly on Mona's side today. She deserved to get her two cents in. The scenes just left me wanting more of her and her inner life. They should really drop Ashley, Derek, and Tomas and put Mona, Laura, and Shanice on contact stat! I don't get why Leslie continued to lie about where she got the money Ted gave her though? What purpose would that serve? Faint hopes that Mona would still forgive her, I guess? Kat really gets some of the best lines. Through all the bitchiness and judgment, she has a talent at keeping me on side because somehow she's never come across unlikable to me, where someone like Dani, even Anita, falls. The scene with her, Martin, and Nicole was a necessity. Things are coming together to making that part of the family feel more like a family. Now I anxiously await Kat and Ted having a one on one confrontation. It would be perfect if it happened to be in the new Ted's first scene/episode.
    • They’ve been really nailing the fall out super well and your whole post really highlights some of the great parts and ramifications we’re seeing.
