I don't fault JPL for sucking up. You do what you have to do when looking for that next job. I do fault him for doing it publically. The smart ones do it discretely.

TVGuide is reporting that insiders at ABC have stated that the network would be "willing to entertain offers" from other media outlets that might be interested in licensing All My Children and/or One Life to Live or even buying the soaps outright.

However, the magazine notes that ABC doesn't expect to get any offers for the soaps, and representatives for the Oprah Winfrey Network and the Hallmark Channel have apparently said they have no interest in either soap.

Ofcourse.

JPL didn't thank his direct boss, but thanked his direct boss's boss?

Good catch! And they have been very good, too good to him.

I just can't believe TIIC in charge say there's no fanbase for soaps.

You tell me, was there 112 pages of discussion when they cancelled "Hope&Faith"? I think not.

It's 112 pages by the same 20 people. That's the problem.

True because most soap fans don't visit the soap boards. OLTL Facebook had over 12,000 responses to the cancellation thread and most were not repetitive.

I think there is still a fanbase for serialized drama - there are so many dramas that have obsessive fans - but the current soaps are not in any shape to channel any of that. If they were, then there would be a way to make some money even with low ratings, through sponsor deals and so on.

The ratings system isn't perfect, and it doesn't give a totally accurate depiction, but the results that show that viewers are leaving this genre at an alarming rate are true. Serialized daytime dramas have been in trouble for decades, but no one has done anything to correct so many of the problems that they have, so now it doesn't matter. Nothing that anyone can do can repair this genre's bad image, and it's that image that will keep the genre from growing, so it can't continue in its current form.

I've never been a fan of Ilene's work going back to Ryan's Hope days. There been tales of her crazy behavior for two decades. She can act certiable a lot, mostly due to the booze.

Robin is a gifted actress. I cheered her laying into Rauch and JFP. However, she can sound like a crazy loon a lot on her hotline and many have said her rants often made little sense on there over the years.

FL just turned 41 last December. She'll be fine. She was off soap for almost 8 years where she supported herself just fine with a few movies, primetime guest appearances and her first love, theater. She's working on a new play and never given up her outside work during OLTL.

Robin is an amazing actress, but she also comes across as a shrew and a diva onscreen. So much that what we hear about her offscreen doesn't surprise me. Some of the stuff that she's said on her own hotline is just disgusting. In many ways, Robin seems almost exactly like Dorian. Dorian is a legacy character, but she comes across to me as extremely entitled and obnoxious.

As for JPL, I can't blame him. When I was in college, I kissed up with literally every job interview that I got. Since so many say that JPL is a Frons favorite, that really is more reason for him to praise Frons. Just about every actor and actress, no matter how talented or untalented they may be, are going to need all the help they can get.

Frons is not likely to be able to help outside of a short term role on GH, unless some other network hires him to kill their lineup.

Farrah Fath says that JPL was being sarcastic.

Ya, sure he was...

I'm gonna choose to believe him. Because...I just want to. I want to believe that no actor is that much of a sycophantic douche and given how completely weasely that sentence is I'm going to officially sign on to it as sarcasm gone bad.

John-Paul, I hereby unpunch you in the throat. Don't make me regret it.
