AMC and OLTL Canceled!

Featured Replies

Andrea has already announced that she would love to return-

"I am heartbroken over the cancellations of both AMC and One Life. One Life has been a huge part of my life and some of my oldest friends live and work in Llanview. And, if at all possible, I would love to bring Tina back home where she belongs."

This really does mark the 'death' of the genre. GH is toast, will loose viewers who watch all three soaps in a block. Only the Bell shows and, maybe Days, will remain--Sony has been great at cost cutting and has an interest in keeping the show alive for international distribution.

I do wonder if the loss of AMC/OLTL will help the remaining soaps. In the past, cancellations haven't helped a rival's ratings; however, now, viewers will have no other scripted options. I could see Y&R going up a tad in HH numbers, picking up bored older people and people out of work.

I can totally see Brad Bell hiring Lucci for B&B (I want her to be Sally Spectra's long lost sister.) CBS will be poaching the strongest talent.

It will be interesting to see how the ratings go after both shows go off the air. Frankly, I'll have no interest in daytime tv after January 2012. I'm sure there are plenty of people like me who work and only record their shows and will not invest in another once their favorite is gone. I don't record those other shows now, so I don't see a reason to record them once OLTL leaves.

As far as Lucci on another show. I don't see it. She's a NY'er. I think she does the commute thing because she's loyal to AMC.

It won't. It's always difficult to get people to follow another soap after being loyal to one for so long. People might tune into the remaining four shows if any of their favorite AMC/OLTL actors pop up there, but they'll never be as committed to them as they were before.

Agree. She'll travel depending on the project at hand (book/product tours, talk show appearances, occasional guest spots, etc.), but she'll always remain tethered to NYC. Besides, it's not like she needs to keep working in order to make living. SL could essentially "retire" as an actress, concentrate solely on business interests, and remain "set" for the rest of her life.

If I were her, I'd hold out for theatre. Again, she doesn't have to worry about money (which is good, b/c you make none in theatre), just the quality of the roles offered to her. Plus, It's her true ambition, and the cache or prestige she carries as "Erica Kane" is almost guaranteed to draw an audience to whatever play or musical she gets involved in.

Slightly off topic, but there's a recent interview with Silvio Horta, the headwriter of Ugly Betty. I pulled this quote because I thought it is relevant. He talks about network interference in the creative process. From deadline.com.

There’s a tendency at some networks to micromanage to the point of really hurting what ends up being on the air. It’s very easy to blame the writers, but most people don’t realize the process to get that one hour of television. The amount of cooks in the kitchen. And the amount of notes. There are hours of notes. Typically, on average an hour of notes on an outline from the studio, and an hour of notes from the network, and sometimes they contradict each other. And then an hour of notes on the cut. And so three hours of notes on each thing. So let’s say that's six hours of going back and forth. That’s average. When I found the process very helpful is when we sort of hit a wall, or when we got clear general notes -- not these nitpicky specifics that I think are destructive to the process.

Cause Alicia is the only actress on AMC we can say this about? Sorry if I sound snippy but I get tired of her being singled out, when she's far from the worst on this show.

People who love JL, yet think AM is awful, that always gives me a chuckle.

She IS Kendall and she's improved by leaps and bounds and I'm sorry if you can't see that. The stuff after Zach died was awesome. I saw people who don't even like Kendall or AM say how she blew them away.

Come on now, that's just ridiculous. If it were RB, yeah I'd agree

Alicia isn't a great actress, but she hasn't been helped by writing that makes her character play second fiddle to men like Ryan and Zach. She's needed a spine for a few years, so I doubt that anyone could have pulled off the part, and made it believable.

I think it's interesting that the US Soaps doing good here in Europe (B&B, DAYS and Y&R, unsure about GH) are still standing but other soaps, the boring ones IMO, are cancelled one after another (Passions, GL, ATWT, AMC, OLTL).

The four left are the strong ones.

well it depends on what point in history they are showing them bc all 4 of those soaps have had bouts of mediocrity. Currently in the US, Y&R and GH are horrible boring messes and AMC/OLTL are hands down alot more entertaining and watchable than they are. B&B just came out of a slump as it was incredibly boring from late fall till just last month.

LMAO! Thats why I asked it depends highly on what time period they are airing. Im interested in knowing what year are the episodes that Sindacco has are from

Who does everyone think will get fired from OLTL before the finale? They already started the axxing on AMC and there's some speculation in that spoiler thread but who do you feel wont make it to the end on OLTL, not simply who you want gone. Here's who I think will go

Tomas - I see him sticking around long enough to push the Todd story along and once RH returns, he will most likely be out as I dont see them doing or having the time to develop a triangle with Blair

Deana - She didnt stand much of a chance even if the show wasnt ending

Nate - He has no storyline and Dani will be plenty busy with the Todd drama. I can see him being written away to college this summer

Destiny - Is she a senior? I can see her going away to college too.

Sean - Does nothing now. Not needed for the end.

Cutter - With no Tess, there's no love interest for him. He's basically an extension of Aubrey, which brings me to...

Aubrey - Joey will most likely wise up and be through with her so the show can focus on reuniting him with Kelly. I see her leaving town with Cutter sometime this fall.

Cristian - Im stumped on what they will have him do from now till January as I dont see anything on his horizon. Too bad they wont reunite him with Natalie. Without that, I see him being written out.

Of course that doesnt mean that none of these characters can appear once or twice again for finale week, but I think they have a strong chance of being dropped in the coming weeks/months

Well at AMC there are two different issues 1) they got a new head writer and there would be firings regardless of the cancellation and 2) its going off the air sooner than OLTL, so I don't expect any immediate firing at OLTL because I expect most of the stories until late summer to be what RC already had planned, I would predict early fall the characters they don't plan on using for the final months will be let go.

IA, I think Sept is when the "final" stories will start. I see the Ford's, Deanna, Cutter, Aubrey, Tomas and for some reason Joey and Kelly leaving. Sean, Destiny, Cris probably won't have a story but still appear now and then

and most of the characters I listed I expect to be out starting the end of summer/early falls. The characters I listed are the ones I dont think will be here in January. The fact is that OLTL will be around longer so they have more time to plan a stonger finale and if that includes bringing back old favorites, they will need to trim the cast which means think of who needs to go now in order to have the money for that. Current stories will most likely play our but I expect the final months to be a fan service. RC has been good about that in the past and I have a feeling he will want to go out like that
