What's with all the flashbacks the past few days? It's verging on OLTL or DAYS territory--is this one technique to up the ratings?

IDK. Prbly to catch up people who are lost and just started watching. I still don't know the need for Ryass in this.

Mar, she's a straight B-line for Asher. It's so guaranteed, unless she's the one that's gonna be making all the advances to a horny JR. She's already sleeping w/ his card.

They need to do something w/ JR, b/c the show needs it. Unfortunately Lorraine's writing won't show till late April or beginning of June.

A. Convert Binx straight (IT'S A SOAP)

B. Amanda/JR

C. Gaslight Marissa

D. Mess w/ GreenBitch

Something needs to happen.

The show would gain nothing by converting Binks. JR and her have no chemistry--JR and Kendall do--and it would just cause trouble. What a weird idea. (I grant you that the show is and has wasted Bianca for ages). I don't see any story potential in gaslighting Marissa either...

See the double standard here? Binx can do it, but JR can't? this is a soap, I'd rather it be a tug of war for Binx than Marissa, that atleast would be something to watch. And so a JR thing to do.

Clear Drama, well maybe CBL has a little crush on Jacob or something and it's coming across in her scenes. lol. I kind of notice how Bianca acts around him to but I can't imagine it being written or directors having CBL deliberately act like that with JR. I just don't think this'll turn into a triangle if the show does go with Minx down the road. AMC will move JR somewhere else (most likely Amanda, but in my dreams, Kendall).

Umm HOW is this a double standard? LOL Binx has played around the sexuality game (and how! Remember ZarfZoe?) I'm not so keen on buying Marissa's sexuality change, though at this point I kinda do, but it's not remotely the same, even by current ABCD standards.

Because it's ok for Binx to turn straight into the love of her life, or true love, yadda, yadda, but JR a straight guy turning Binx, all the sudden no way, no how. The only reason Binx is gay is b/c McTavish made that decision for a sweeps story. And what's happened w/ the Bianca character? it's been dead since B.A.M. :lol:

Umm no Agnes Nixon's big return in 1999--her last HW era was to do the Bianca story, and she's talked a lot about it, how important it was to her, how in the past gay characters on soaps had never been connected to core families, etc. McT had no play with Bianca till 2003.

If JR started going gay, I'd be all for your idea!

I didn't hear about the Agnes Nixon angle on this story. First I heard it. What I heard was it was more to do with McTavish needing something for sweeps week back then and it gave Erica material. Do you have a source to this?

You know JR will never go there. Leave JR out of this. Well we can atleast settle for JR and Frankie pick up ball scenes. :lol:

I wonder how Colby will feel about Asher all of the sudden sniffing around another girl?

I could see Colby asking JR to "seduce" Maya (JR and Colby's seduction plans always work out so well :lol: ) so that she can have Asher all to herself.

Asher/Maya/JR could be a repeat of Caleb/Sonya/Adam and I kinda dig that (not that we ever saw Caleb/Sonya/Adam)

Maybe Maya will look older with some makeup on and different clothes? *crossing fingers*

I'd rather have no JR on than the p*ssy-whipped Marissa worshipping loser than is currently onscreen.

My source is that when Agnes Nixon came back after McTavish's mess in 99--her main storyline was the Bianca story. She has talked a lot about that being her last storyline on the show. She even said on the Oprah show this year how it was a story she was most proud of. Agnes basically left (sadly) HW to her co HW Jean Passanante once the Bianca storyline was over, which spiralled AMC into its worst era.

(Bianca and Frankie--later Maggie--were created by Richard Culliton in 2001).

Agreed, I think Blake became a woman who learned from her mistakes and grew up. I too wanted them to be the core couple after the Tori thing, as a matter of fact, around Wheeler after Simon left I wanted them to move into the Bauer house..( I would have Blake say that this is the closet thing she knew as a home )SORAS the kids, and bring Sam back..Dinah would have a very contentious relationship with her, as she would be jealous of Ross and Sam's relationship, and Blake and Dinah would have that tension (ya, know cause she killed his brother) it would be a core family that had some fissures leading to good drama. But now, Wheeler and company though the Coopers should be the core.

Agree that great minds can think alike :)
In terms of Derek, I see the show doing one of two things based on the most recent episodes that featured him.
1) They do the gradual fade-out of the character until he stops appearing and is occasionally mentioned by Jacob (i.e. still living and existing in town, just not being seen). We saw some evidence with him having a group of co workers he's friends with, plus a female co worker interested in him... so possibly we see him regain his walking and go back to his life with the Fire crew and eventually we stop seeing them on air.
2) His mentioning to Jacob that he hopes to win Ashley back signals that perhaps the dark side we saw glimpses of has been hidden and will rear itself if she appears to be moving on with a new guy.
In terms of Ashley, the show seems committed to keeping her character on the show especially since she was shown in the Thanksgiving episode having a quiet day with Jan and Mona as they discuss Black Friday shopping, food, and other day to day matters... so I think delving into her backstory in terms of who her father is would be a good place for the show to go while keeping her as a good friend to Naomi, Shanice, and a good nurse during medical stories.
Perhaps one of the children of the handsome new doctor could be her love interest down the line.

Re: 1978. I'm glad the unedited version of the episode complete with commercials is available. The one that has been posted several years ago had several segments missing. I like Barbara's long hair here. Dr. Steven Farrell didn't last very long I take it since she is re-connecting with Tom (Tom Tammi) by 1979. The actor playing Steven (Phil Peters) was the real-life husband of Lenore Kasdorf (Rita GL).

Oh, how I wish we'd gotten to see Ross deal with his teenage sons. I loved his relationships with Phillip and Sam, but he really deserved to be seen with his own kids (other than the horror that became Dinah). The boys simply disappeared off canvas after either the Nursery Stalker or the affair with Tori.

What I liked about Bloss is that I liked how they grew to be the stable couple- the closest to an Ed and Mo in their prime. Especially after the Tori story when their extra-marital exploits were in the past. I wanted them to SORAS the three kids, along with Dinah and with Phillip's family as Ross's extended family would really be solid core family material.
With that said, I was rooting against Bloss in 1999 as I really liked the Ross/India pairing-- but that just turned out to be a waste of MKA.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's

The return of sitcoms' popularity in the mid-'80s was a real thing, but the crash of the wealth-based nighttime soap genre was resonate and self-induced.

There was an effectively grim finality to the mood of the cliffhangers in the Spring of 1985: Bobby's death, the Moldavian massacre, the return of Val's babies... and they felt as if they could have ended right there (and perhaps they should have, although I would have sorely missed S10 of Dallas, S6 of FC, and Season 9 of Dynasty , and the next five years of KNOTS as they singularly maintained quality).

But, wow, these shows just fell apart post-Spring 1985. They stopped being character dramas after a while, and just started trying to "impress" viewers in some superficial way and to "fake it" somehow.

What a painful, unnecessary slide it was. But once these shows seemed to lose their identities, their sense of self, their momentum into the dung heap couldn't be slowed.
