Grandmas' still watch OLTL?

I was thinking about that when I was talking with my mom about AMC getting canceled. I got her hooked back int he 90s, and she still watches at least a few times a week--and was asking if it did go what other shows I watched. I mentioned I still watch OLTL which she loved in the mid 90s with Vicki's DID storyline (which resonated with some of her own repressed memories, so she really appreciated it) and she got excited asking if it still tackled difficult issues in such a compelling manner, etc... I sorta thought to myself, my mom gets embarassed at the VERY limited (prob too limited) amount of flesh on display on AMC... I don't think she'd like or get OLTL in its current state at all. (She doesn't really get camp--well she gets it, but doesn't get why I find it entertaining and not just embarassing or sad...)

I like Cutter, but I do agree (and that doesn't mean the men have to have a lions mane of hair on their chests, but Valentini doesn't seem to realize that even in underwear ads now a slightly more natural look, and not the late 80s gay porn model, is actually what's in and to most teenaged girls and even younger gay men--who I can only assume is his targe audience--is preferable).

And yeah--I go from admitting that AMC has too little skin for modern daytime, but OLTL and the way they do it is pretty, well as you said, DeCocteau (surely some of these guys have been in his films--I know a number of other soap stars started there like Jeff Branson though he can at least kinda act). Sure show the skin--but to have every male under a certain age constantly parading in the same tiny underwear and the same waxed chests, it becomes kinda ridiculous...

(Of course I guess DAYS, and the late Passions, did this even more, but...)

Deedee. You just gave RC and FV their Summer 2011 storyline!

You are aware of what show you're watching, my friend, right?

I seem to be in the minority cuz I like the facial hair. Still they prob make him keep it so viewers don't confuse him with the other half naked males on the show his age.

I blame FV too and his vision for the show, but yes, I agree. Sorry if I made it sound otherwise--this isn't how I wish my OLTL was. That said, I kinda enjoyed it (in a trashy camp) way today for the first time in a while. Like I said, maybe it was just due to a good mood. :P

If Josh Kelly had chest hair, it would put him into another stratosphere of HOTNESS. His only detriment is his old lady mouth.

I really like this Cutter/Aubrey scheme. It reminds me of 80's OLTL.

And I have to say that I even enjoy Kelly and -vomits in mouth, slightly- JOHN! There I said it. I LIKE them together.

The double entendres today were very funny.

I just like that OLTL has an energy that I find lacking on the other shows. Its not for everyone I guess.

He does have the chest hair, they just hide it :P

I do get what you mean about the energy. I guess I just wish they could find some sort of compromise. OLTL is the best current soap I know for watching randomly--if you don't really know the characters. But that's not really what I want from a soap.

Kelly and John are good, right now. But this is the pattern with John. He truly is OLTL's Ryan Lavery--while Ryan is ALL big gestures and over the top ness, John is the opposite. But they seem to serve the exact same function in Brian Frons mind--some dream-girl ideal of "male masculinity", with a hero complex, and endlessly stuck in relationships where he brings the other character down, and does little but ultimately feel sorry for himself.

Nora and Bo have become about as sympathetic as Jim and Tammy Faye Baker. Both have mis(used) their offices to go after Clint and seem to have enjoyed it for the most part.

I'm glad it isn't Nora who killed Eddie. Had it been, Bo and Nora, in their present incarnations, would have simply swept it under the rug. No biggie. <_< But Matthew...that is classic "Be careful what you wish for."

Story-wise, Matthew is Rachel 2.0, but the Georgie storyline was so much better. Still can't for the big reveal. It will probably be awhile, though. Rex is still atoning to Uncle Bo and will probably cover-up Matthew's involvement.

Good cliffhanger, though. I credit the director. (Gary Donatelli, wasn't it?)

The Georgie story also made little sense and involved degrading Nora's child for kicks, but it had more energy. The story didn't vanish for months.

JPL didn't ruin the cliffhanger for you? For me he tanks everything.

I don't know if Matthew will have this covered up or not. I can see him being banished to a facility since he's not worthy of OLTL/Frons' support, the way the Fords or Jack are.

I don't know if it's Frons or Carlivati but they don't seem to get Bo and Nora at all. I'm still bothered by Bo sympathizing with his niece's rapist and by how uncaring he was when he started cheating with Nora.
