Exactly.

1984 through first half of 1986 was Y&R golden era.

So I see from reading that.

Thank you, good sir.

You know it's bad when I shade it every chance I can get.

Is Y&R the only soap with multiple golden eras? When I think of Y&R’s golden eras I always think of 1975-79, 1983-86, and 1990-spring 1994 as being the golden years for Y&R

Silver ages would be 1988-89, 1998-2001, and a Bronze Age from late 2002 to early 2004.

I so meant to reply to your recent post in the B&B August thread after seeing we’re basically having the same feeling about both Y&R and B&B these days. Both shows are so embarrassing to watch compared to BTG (I really need to get more vocal/active in the monthly thread but everyone else seems to say it better 😁)

Taste.

No worries. I am more in the B&B thread (and of course the BTG thread) more than the Y&R these days. I stumbled out over the Damian stuff because that was so distasteful for me. And for CANE? And given my story feelings for Chance...not to mention what happened to Cole...I couldn't keep going. I saw Jill's first (phone) appearance. And that was just it for me. I can't with JG. The show needs a change. And teasing a Shick reunion ain't it.

And even B&B was harmless, but enjoyable fluff for me until Friday's Grace scenes. I finally picked up Monday's episode more due to my love of Li, but that show is on a slippery slope with me.

Come on in re: BTG and enjoy the mess. Especially after that Friday coda. ;) We been discussing that allllllllllllll weekend. I bet the thread will hit 100 pages again this month.

I will say no. Days, GH, ATWT, and AMC all had multiple golden eras IMO. What I found interesting about you & @kalbir list is that you did not include '87 when the show became number one.

Y&R medals for me

Gold: 1984 through first half of 1986

Silver: 1990 through first half of 1994

Bronze: Second half of 1997 through 1998

Second half of 1986 through 1989 Cricket ate the show.

1988 Y&R tied General Hospital for #1 and 1989 Y&R took over #1.

Ohhh. That makes sense. She doesn't bother me much as an adult.

I'd be inclined to say Y&R's best years were 1975 - 1979.  It was a unique and pretty show, and it always held my interest.  1980-1982 were pretty dreary.  Once the Abbotts were all assembled in 1982, it started a second upswing that really accelerated in 1984 and probably peaked in 1988.

(Right now, from what LITTLE I've seen of it this year, it's plumb dreadful.)

How I break down Y&R run

Growing years: 1973-1979

Surviving years: 1980-1982

Thriving years: 1983-1998 for the most part. Exceptions being second half of 1986 through 1989 (Cricket ate the show), Summer 1994 (Frat Party), Fall 1994 to Spring 1996 (Nick/Sharon ate the show), Fall 1996 through first half of 1997 (lull in the storylines).

Tanking years: 1999-2005

Not classic years: 2006 onward. John Abbott death was the end of an era.

Nice to hear you opinions on Y&Rs best years! I always love your comments! :D

overall within all the not so good stuff which we’ve had plenty to endure even with someone as talented as Bill Bell I will always say 1973-2006 were the years Y&R was…..well Y&R. I use to stop and say 2005 was where it ended and 2006 definitely was the beginning of the end with LML taking over, but I think now a lot of the decent stuff definitely climaxed the beginning and end of 2006, and we lost Alden, Smith and Sussman by the end of the year which really cumulates the entire Bill Bell era imo (even if those 3 sadly had no say in the horrid stuff LML would ultimately pen).

I can’t say for sure if these were the best years but my favorite eras of each decade (sans 2007-present, lol)

1975, 1979

1984, 1989

1991, 1993

2001, 2003

Awwww really on those tanking years?

Though I do agree that John Abott's death was definitely a turning point.

Bill Bell had stepped down and Kay Alden/Jack Smith did a lot of long term damage with Victor DNA, Jill parentage, and Cassie death.

I can see that. Especially that second one.
