Members jpoliver78
Please do us all a favor and either learn to read or refrain from proving that old adage "better to let someone think you're a fool than open your mouth (or in this case, type) and remove all doubt" (paraphrasing). I specifically said "THE ABC PRESS RELEASE HEADLINE...". Maybe you should read my WHOLE post. Most people just skim articles and just rely on the headline. Of course, this doesn't fit into your little pro-OLTL argument now does it? By the way, I forgot to ask you...do you think ABC is ecstatic that it's making less money with a 42 year old show than CBS is with one that hasn't been one month? Members jpoliver78
Why do I need to work for CBS? Just because I can read and comprehend things? It doesn't take a genius - hell, I bet even Sarah Palin can grasp it - that a series making money for a network is going to last longer than one that doesn't. However, we can agree that you don't know anything.
Members OLTL_fan
From what I hear, OLTL is the only ABC soap thats financially stable. AMC and GH are overbudget. At least GH has decent demos unlike AMC thats sinking during sweeps.
Members DRW50
I'm more interested in why CBS isn't doing press releases for The Talk now. Have they? If so, it was for the best. Bragging about numbers against a 42 year old show seemed odd to me -- perhaps someone at CBS agreed.
Members OLTL_fan
I know the Talk is cheaper to produce. Im not a moron. The question is how much cheaper. OLTL did 40% better in the key demo. Thats a big increase IMO.
Members MontyB
Do you seriously think CBS is all giddy about The Talk's dismal ratings?
Members jpoliver78
Yet, GH, that over-budget soap routinely mops the floor with OLTL in every conceivable category except men. Who are these people you are hearing this from? Frank Valentini?
Members DRW50
Y&R spends 24/7 doing stunts to try to raise ratings, and constantly hires a parade of has beens to try to raise ratings. To do all this just to break even with numbers that were seen as a disaster only 2 years ago isn't great.
Members Carolyn1980
NBC's daytime average is based on one show, DAYS, whereas ABC's daytime average is based on four shows, OLTL, GH, The View, and AMC. It's kind of ludicrous to even be comparing them in press releases based on that fact.
Members DRW50
If they are not doing press releases, apparently not. Are they?
Members MontyB
Doesn't seem like it to me.
Members jpoliver78
Well, genius, OLTL has a larger behind the scenes crew, has to occupy a larger studio for all of those sets it needs and has around 20 CONTRACT roles. Compare that to "The Talk", and you actually think it is anywhere near OLTL in terms of budget or profitability. "The Talk" could lose half of its audience and still be making more money for its network than OLTL would. You may not be a moron, but you're one hell of a terrible speller. Members OLTL_fan
Im sure Maurice and Steve being on everyday aint cheap plus all the stunt casting. James Franco? Hes not the only one. Its been reported on several websites and even some actors and actresses from the show have said the same thing. So theyre all liars? Why u being mean about this? Members DRW50
Not exactly a great showing for a new program -- who cares, we're still cheaper than someone else. If that was all CBS wanted they would have put reruns in the slot.
Members jpoliver78
Does anything you just said negate the fact that GH easily defeats OLTL in every single reported category except male viewers? I'll make it easy for you...the answer is "no". You are kidding yourself if you think ABC is going to get rid of GH - no matter how over-budget it may be - before it turns off the lights at OLTL or AMC.
