Was there ever a suggestion that Daphne was or could have been Megan's mom? In reality, it could have been plausible (Madlyn Rhue was born in 1935 and Miranda Wilson in 1960), but I suspect Daphne was supposed to have been born in the mid-late '20s (since Thaao Penghlis was born in 1945 and I don't think they were claiming Tony or Andre were younger than they looked).

Interesting. Daphne's biography on the old Who's Who in Salem page also states that Tony wasn't Stefano's oldest -- in fact, she ran away with Tony after being aware of the treatment Stefano gave to his previous baby mamas and/or wives -- but I'm pretty sure that idea is no longer canon.

Marlena suggests to Mickey that he leave the sanitarium for a visit, and they decide she will ask Linda if she would like to have Mickey to dinner. Marlena goes to see Linda at the law office and suggests she have Mickey over for dinner. However, Marlena says it would be better if Linda and Mickey weren't alone, whereupon Linda proposes she ask Mike to join them. Marlena agrees, and they both look at one another speculatively - maybe they sized each other up too hastily. At the sanitarium, Marlena finds Don wanting to visit Mickey. Don tries to apologize for last night, but Marlena cuts him off: From now on she has no interest in him except for his help for her patient, Mickey Horton. Exiting Mickey's room at the sanitarium after discussing office business, Don finds Marlena waiting, says he has a few things to discuss about Mickey, will she meet him later for a drink. Although she's wary, Marlena agrees and Don leaves. Marlena talks to Mickey, and he admits he's afraid to leave the sanitarium. She says Linda wants very much to fix dinner for him, and Mike will pick him up so the three of them can have dinner together. Mickey asks Marlena if Linda is afraid to be alone with him.

Apologies if we've seen this one before. It's another non-storyline-related promo. I kinda like that NBC did these sort of vignette ads. Maybe I'll find one not related to a couple, like, say, of Mike in a medical situation or Victor scheming?

JASON47'S DEIDRE HALL COUNTDOWN TO 5000 EPISODES CONTINUES...

Each of the 25 episodes that Deidre Hall appears in (from 4,976 to 5,000) will feature an episode summary countdown of her first 25 appearances on "Days" from 1976. Here is Deidre's ninth episode, # 2680, which aired July 8, 1976.

Deidre Hall Countdown: 4,984 Episodes...16 Episodes to go.

2680...7/8/76: EPISODE # 9:
Cast: Tom, Alice, Mickey, Greg, Phyllis, Mike, Amanda, Neil, Robert, Linda, Don, Mary, Marlena, Customer.
Sets: Linda's Apartment, Doug's Place Bar Area, Doug's Place Powder Room, Amanda's Hospital Room & Waiting Area Outside, Boutique, Mickey's Sanitarium Room & Waiting Area Outside, Amanda's Apartment.

Marlena has to convince a doubtful and nervous Mickey that he is ready emotionally to go out for an evening of dinner at Linda's apartment. He challenges her about not thinking he's up to going out to a public place, only to someone's house where he'll be supervised. Put on the spot, she says if he feels like going out after dinner, to do so. Outside, she tells the waiting Mike that if Mickey seems to want to test her statement, to take him somewhere. It's important he doesn't feel he's being supervised. Later, at Doug's Place, Don and Marlena talk of Mickey and are surprised to see Amanda Howard enter the place with Greg. Marlena is devastated when Mickey comes in with Mike and Linda. She fears he will think she's there to "supervise" his behavior. And Mickey's penetrating eyes show that indeed he does think that. Linda accuses Marlena of spying, but Marlena says she had no idea they would show up here. She goes back to her table, asks Don to kiss her, and they exit. Mike, relieved, tells Mickey that she probably didn't even know he was there, but Mickey is only half buying. Linda sees the way Marlena handled things, says score one for the doctor. Marlena says she didn't know it was a contest. Alone, Linda says to herself that with her it's always a contest where Mickey is concerned. Mike leaves also, realizing his attitude about Marlena isn't helping his Dad.

Here is Deidre's 10th episode, # 2681, which aired July 9, 1976.

Deidre Hall Countdown: 4,985 Episodes...15 Episodes to go.

2681...7/9/76: EPISODE # 10:
Cast: Mickey, Julie, Doug, Linda, Don, Rebecca, Marlena, Kim, Sharon, PA Voice, Stewardess' Voice.
Sets: Doug's Place Family Room, Bench Area Under Tree, Int. Plane Seats, Table for Two at Restaurant with Dance Floor, Julie's Apartment, Mickey's Sanitarium Room & Waiting Area Outside, Airport Waiting Area with Phone Booth.

When Don brings Marlena back from their date to the sanitarium, Marlena tells him she is not interested in his advances until he gets Julie out of his system. If and when is he free, she will be happy to have a real date with him. Marlena is in the waiting area outside of Mickey's room at the sanitarium when he and Linda arrive. Angry and defiant that Marlena is there to check up on him, Mickey strides into the room, slamming the door. Although Linda considers the evening a disaster, Marlena does not, and the latter suggests the two of them work together to help Mickey. When Linda goes in to say goodbye to Mickey, he makes it clear that he feels both Marlena and Don are against him, to which Linda replies that if it weren't for Don, there would be no law practice. Moreover, although she doesn't particularly like the lady psychiatrist, Marlena seems to have her head on straight. After Linda leaves, Mickey finds he really wants Marlena to like him. He just has trouble expressing his need for people. With the rain pouring down outside, Mickey and Marlena play chess, Mickey verbally testing her. However, Marlena handles the situation like a true professional, telling him that for the most part, she finds being his therapist a challenge and obviously she is not afraid of him or she would not be alone with him. Whereupon, Mickey asks her to go for a walk in the rain with him. Sitting on a bench under a tree dripping with water, Mickey tells Marlena he isn't sure where his home is because he doesn't love anyone, to which Marlena replies he will in time. Meanwhile, Don proceeds to ask Julie to marry him, slipping a beautiful engagement ring on her finger. Mesmerized by Don's persuasive kisses, Julie agrees to marry him.

    • John Black actually was the ultimate good guy soap hero. So I don’t mind the town gushing over him. It’s deserved.
    • Be glad it wasn't a Perry production.

    • I love my girl, but nope he's pathetic. 250K and now he's put her business at risk.   L O S E R

    • The whole town gushing over John Black as if he was a saint is eye rolling.  I guess death really colors people's memories over his many flaws, but I guess that is normal and human nature. I'm still confused as to why Leo hasn't been written out.  The actor stank up two soaps with his sub par acting, what does he have on TPTB's to remain on these soaps.   What's the point of Cat?  I hope the new head-writers figure out her purpose and develop her character. And I much prefer scenes not focusing on John's death because life does go on for the world when someone passes.
    • Wasn't there a break in Zaslow's first run? I thought Roger was off-screen for a while, and when Zas came back, Roger was hiding at the boarding house and Nola figured out there was something hinkey about him. I'm pretty sure Simon chose to leave the first time and was replaced by RVV. I don't want to assume Jordan's issues played a role in his first departure, but Maeve said in an interview that at some point, it became very hard for her to work with him and she asked to work with him less. That seems to fit 1986, where suddenly Vanessa is essentially Ross' law clerk and not at every Lewis family moment.
    • He needs to divorce her arse with her constant cheating.   She's no better than Doug... she's F*cking pathetic.
    • I didn't know of any interruptions for Maeve Kinkead after her 1997 return. Her runs would then be 1981-1987, 1989-1996, 1997-2000, short arcs until the end. I knew Maureen Garrett second run was interrupted from a 2009 interview but I couldn't recall the exact year. Her runs would then be 1976-1980, 1988-2000, short arcs until the end.
    • As I said in May, I have no problem with Martin and Bradley being married. You can still do all the fun introloper storylines with them as you do everyone else. Both men of a certain age, and it is very believable for them to have either a first love or have been previously married. And, you can do it without either of them cheating!

I said something similar during the premiere week. Bill was the perfect age to play Martin as Vernon and Anita's child. I would've much preferred this version, but oh well.
    • I don't know how you want to count Maeve. She "retired" in '00, but would come back for appearances. I don't know however if she made an appearance in '01 or '03. In '02 I believe she came back for Josh and Reva's wedding. I assume she came back when Gina Tognoni took over the role of Dinah. And I know she was back for Ross' memorial service. Maureen Garrett was around until at least '00. I don't think Holly was in town when Ben returned though. I just got pissed off about Jerry all over again.
    • So, pretty sure Zaslow, Garrett, Kinkead, and Newman all chose to leave the first time. (If that's wrong, please correct me). Bernau - not sure why he left the first time. Was it voluntary? Or did they decide to write him out? They were writing so many out during that time period. It always seemed odd to me that they introduced Alex, FINALLY giving him someone he could talk to, and then he was written out. Or maybe that's why they made Alex his sister, so she could take his place as the head of the Spaulding family? Would love more intel on that if anyone knows. Simon - was he replaced by RVV? Or did he voluntarily leave the first time? It seems to me like one of those times TPTB decided to sex up or glamorize a character (and it clearly flopped). If he was fired, interesting he came back. Again, would love if someone could spill the tea. Clarke - I've always assumed he left because of his personal issues, but not sure if that was the case the first time.
