While I look forward to any potential Erica/Annie scenes, I don't like Erica's intentions.

I miss Liza.

Seeing these Symbiocort commercials makes me miss Arlene! She (the actress) should be back on soaps, and not these commercials!

I'm sure Erica didn't like getting stabbed in the guts.

Anyone else sigh when you realized it was going to be a Ryan episode? Him being the voice of comfort in Greenlee's head is groan-inducing. Was Madison wearing the bumblebee outfit that somebody here has in their banner? What are they DOING with her, the recurring failure in the kitchen bit, blah... Whatever it is, I feel like we are being strung along for destination disappointment. I think she's going to meet a dramatic Janice Frame in the swimming pool in St. Croix end (at the hands of Greenlee in the role of Rachel... brokenhearted Sleestak Frankie will leave town).

I guess I'm being influenced by what I know, but today really felt like an ending for Scott. Like a "leaving town" ending. I wonder how they're going to keep this thing fresh. And leave Colby's hair alone, she obviously spent the morning riding.

I dig Erica's retro futuristic look, like the femme fatale on an episode of The Jetsons.

Well, Greenlee would be the only stabbing I might feel a little sympathy for... because she's been the only one showing a glimpse of humanity here and there since the beginning of All My Children: GL Style. As for the rest of the self-righteous sociopaths, skewer away!

OMG - how could I even forget Jake??? Not only does he need to be stabbed, they might as well throw him in a woodchipper. That nasty ass is the worst right now!

Oh, how I wish we'd gotten to see Ross deal with his teenage sons. I loved his relationships with Phillip and Sam, but he really deserved to be seen with his own kids (other than the horror that became Dinah). The boys simply disappeared off canvas after either the Nursery Stalker or the affair with Tori.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread

What I liked about Bloss is that I liked how they grew to be the stable couple- the closest to an Ed and Mo in their prime. Especially after the Tori story when their extra-marital exploits were in the past. I wanted them to SORAS the three kids, along with Dinah and with Phillip's family as Ross's extended family would really be solid core family material.
With that said, I was rooting against Bloss in 1999 as I really liked the Ross/India pairing-- but that just turned out to be a waste of MKA.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's

The return of sitcoms' popularity in the mid-'80s was a real thing, but the crash of the wealth-based nighttime soap genre was resonate and self-induced.

There was an effectively grim finality to the mood of the cliffhangers in the Spring of 1985: Bobby's death, the Moldavian massacre, the return of Val's babies... and they felt as if they could have ended right there (and perhaps they should have, although I would have sorely missed S10 of Dallas, S6 of FC, and Season 9 of Dynasty , and the next five years of KNOTS as they singularly maintained quality).

But, wow, these shows just fell apart post-Spring 1985. They stopped being character dramas after a while, and just started trying to "impress" viewers in some superficial way and to "fake it" somehow.

What a painful, unnecessary slide it was. But once these shows seemed to lose their identities, their sense of self, their momentum into the dung heap couldn't be slowed.

It is very strange. They have insisted on having 30+ contract players for years now. If they had less cast, they could up everyone's episode guarantees, balance the cast out more. Like 20-25 would be perfect. Have everyone else recur.
If you look back at the history of the show, especially in the 1970s and in the 2010s, whenever the show was at it's most successful, it had smaller casts. Audience relate to the characters more, because they see more of them. In 2009 and 2013, the show had arguable it's most successful periods since the early 2000s (ratings wise that is). They had smaller casts and focused on 3 or 4 stories the whole year. That's what they should be doing at this point. Have a few umbrella stories, that last the whole year, and involve the whole cast. But again, before that, fix who we see on screen cause.....😬
