AMC: Agnes Nixons mistake

I also wrote this for the amc soap net board as well.

She made the show to perfect. so perfect that almost every new writer for the show is basically "cursed". because when they try to write for the show, the direction changes from perfect to imperfect. when that happens the long term fans have a tendency to panic and stop watching. but with Lauraine Broderick, and Winser Washams case, they turned the show to a new perfection imo. manly because they paid attention to agnes' teachings. the mistake Pratt made is that he either got to comfortable with writing for the show and decided to shake things up a bit or he had good intentions but his delivery didn't work and his writings were probably to complex that the breakdown writers couldn't figure out how to break down his stories.

That is just my honest opinion!

I personally thought Lorraine Broderick's recent stint was highly overrated, and while AN is good, she wasn't always perfect

Dont know about you, but I am always on the soap net board, and ALMOST EVERY SINGLE POSTER views Agnes Nixon as the second coming of Christ! but i do agree that LB's return was a EXTREMELY overrated!

The reason why everyone liked Lorriane Broderick's last stint was overrated was because she actually made AMC a good show agian.

She brought drama/family/fueds/humor back to the show. Something Megan/Pratt/B&E NEVER did on a consistant basis.

Nixon created the show. Of course everyone is going to get compared to her. The problem is that there aren't any new soaps being created.

I agree with this.

LMAO And I thought I was just being crabby.

You weren't but I decided to take the high road with you. But generally I consider any post with "please read" in the subject a target for derision unless it has something to do with the real life status of a board poster.

Agnes is a wonderful writer and visionary and built a lot of modern soap opera and put a brilliant foundation for AMC. I don't think that her show was perfect, or anyone's show...I was reading about a story where Donna's doctor and Chuck decided not to tell her that she had miscarried and that she had to keep the dead baby inside her until delivery. If I was around back when that story aired I'm sure I wouldn't see it as perfect. That was an exception to the rule for Agnes's AMC obviously, I'm just saying nothing is perfect.

I think what hurt AMC the most is that beautifully built foundation has been eroded over the years, especially the last 5 years. The show became very generic, became so focus on overused and not all that pleasant of characters, and so on. If the foundation is built back up, which seems to be happening, then hopefully ABC will be patient and viewers will return. If there's any hope left for daytime soaps then viewers have to return.

i wasn't watching the show a lot when B&E were writing. all I saw of them was Angie and Jessie's comeback, so what all did they do wrong?

Amen!

They focused almost every day on Ryan/Greenlee/Zach/Kendall (nicknamed Slavery for Slater/Lavery by R. Sinclair on this board). Their main story was Greenlee kidnapping Spike and causing his deafness, but then miraculously he was going deaf anyway so Kendall was supposed to forgive her, or something stupid like that. They also had Kendall sleep with Aiden when Zach & Greenlee were presumed dead, brought on Annie's psycho brother Richie to torment her into killing him (and it looked like they were trying to make Annie a psycho too) and of course had Kendall taunting Annie daily about how Ryan would never love her the way he did Greenlee. It was just awful!

It was even with him, imo.

If Agnes Nixon is god, then Megan McTavish would be the devil and Pratt/B&E would be demons.
