^^ And that's why I don't watch Days anymore. Because they cut out Marlena and John. They lost me as a viewer forever.

It seems they gained a lot too according to the ratings. DAYS is no always number 3.

What was left for Marlena & John anyway?

By that logic then what's left for ALL the long time character's then? There's alot that can be written for J&M, the writers are just too lazy to write something fresh and new

I don't care. Firing John and Marlena cost me my show.

if you watch the YOUTUBE videos of TOm Horton's funeral while Billie and Gina are rudly talking in the background you hear Alice talking about Tom and the ones who went before him "Addie and Tommy" so i guess they killed Tommy off screen some time in 1994 before Tom Horton Died? how did we not catch that back in 94?? lol

This has been discussed to death, so we should just agree to disagree.

I think letting the DH's go, was the best and smartest decision in the long run.

I was looking for the "like" button. Too much time on Facebook will do that for ya. lol

Anyway. I'm happy to see all these actors returning!

Hahaha! So true. The show went from Boredomeville to better days, and it actually all started when they left. lol

I watched and listened to the scene, but I only heard a mention of "darling Addie and Hope".

I was strictly talking about John and Marlena not ALL long-term characters. If John had stayed dead, there could have been so many places to take Marlena. But together, they were just stuck as JohnandMarlena, not two separate people, but a couple. There was really nothing you could do with them, and I think Gary Tomlin made a smart decision in letting those characters rest.

I miss John and Marlena. The show could have done stuff with them just as they do stuff with Bo and Hope or Sami. If it was strictly money I can understand that, but the show did not get better because John and Marlena left, it got better and could have gotten better whether they left or not. This is like saying the show got better in spite of the fact Bo and Hope did not leave. One has nothing to do with the other.

Anyway, lately I am not even sure the show is better. How much longer can the show torture the audience with Baby Sydney?

Exactly. I am sick of people trying to connect the quality of the show with the absence of John and Marlena. I wish Days had kept John and Marlena and fired Bo and Hope. Those two are so played out.

John and Marlena were played out. The only reason Bope have any story is because of Carly. What could they have done for John and Marlena without a third party, Stefano, or a microchip that wouldn't have been boring? If Deidre Hall had stayed all she would have been doing is supporting Sami through this Sydney drama. I am glad they were fired because it gave other veterans like Suzanne Rogers a chance to do their thing.

Getting this topic back on a topic- but still speaking of Deidre- she posted some pictures from the cast memorial for Frances Reid on her webpage:

a million emotions at Frances Reid's memorial tonight. She was a strong, proud, fabulously talented actress. We will all miss her. Suzanne reminded us of how intimidated we were to meet her because of her experience and wisdom, Deidre had us laughing hysterically at Frances' quirks and forthright manner. Bill Hayes charmed us with stories of their past, and Susan Seaforth Hayes made us laugh, cry and remember how lucky we all were to have known her.

The montage her family assembled was beautiful, and a touching look into her personal history that many didn't ever get to see. And then there was a fun, gorgeous clip reel of some past scenes with MacDonald Carey that had us all swooning with how incredibly talented they were, and of course, funny with all the out-takes that went along with it.

Getting to see Missy Reeves, Peter, Kristian, Deidre, Wayne, Jason Cook, Matt Ashford, Christie Clark, Bryan, (me!), so many of us from so many years ago ... I don't know how to put it into words how I felt. I just have to share how lucky and blessed I feel to be part of Days of our Lives.

Soap Opera Digest's summary of the memorial: http://soapoperadigest.com/news/breaking/

A Tribute to DAYS's France Reid

Castmembers past — among them, Maree Cheatham (ex-Marie), Susan Flannery (ex-Laura; Stephanie, B&B), Deidre Hall (ex-Marlena) and Melissa Reeves (ex-Jennifer) — and present gathered at the NBC commissary in Burbank on March 25 to honor Frances Reid, who passed away on Feb. 3. The memorial celebration began with an address from executive producer Ken Corday and a slide show of photos of Reid over the years, put together by her great niece, April Rocha. Corday remembered Reid fondly as a "second mother" after his own, Betty Corday, had died, and how she always urged him "to get a real job" during his early years playing and touring with a band. Suzanne Rogers (Maggie) followed, recounting her initial meeting with Reid when she joined the show. Namely, being called into her dressing room and being told the three rules of working on the show: be on time, be prepared, and don't keep the other actors waiting when you're called to the set. Hall, who seriously should consider doing stand up, shared her own stories of working with the daytime legend. She noted how Reid always made those she shared scenes with better and offered up great advice, not always of the acting variety. The crowd roared when Hall recounted how Reid once told her that if she wore a brassiere to bed her breasts would stay perky. Bill Hayes (Doug) described Reid as "a cream puff ... crusty on the outside, but soft inside." He remembered "the look" Reid was so well known for among her co-stars and friends and how it effortlessly conveyed more than a script full of words. Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie) cited the late actress as a one of a kind presence, noting there would never be anyone like her again. A video clip of out takes and highlights from Reid's tenure on DAYS, including Reeves touching last scene with the actress before leaving the show in 2006, evoked tears from many. Finally, Corday raised his glass and made a toast to Reid and the assembled guests followed in unison.
