OLTL: What disenfranchised minority groups do.....

What I'm saying is that every time an actor who fits into a socio-political minority (or plays a character who is) gets fired, the automatic knee-jerk reaction is to start coming up with cynical conspiracy theories about that being the reason they were let go. I can't help but think that if the show were that bias against their kind, the powers that be didn't have to go there with them at all. OLTL didn't have to spin Kyle and Oliver into gay characters in the first place, nor did they have to bother bringing back Rachel, and Layla has lasted an awfully long time for someone who is constantly being made out to be next on the chopping block.

So then, your theory is that every soap not having gay characters or even black characters in any significant capacity is just a coincidence?

They backburnered Rachel and then fired her after one story, a story that was rushed in the first place. This while other female characters have hung on and had story after story to try to make them popular. If she was white, would that have happened? Even Sarah Roberts got more of a chance...

Uh you tell me why they can't write a story for the lovely and talented Daphnee Duplaix, who plays a character who has STRONG ties to a core family, but they can keep Farah Fath (yes, I'm talking about you, babes!) on the frontburner for over two years.

And you tell me why they need to write out Oliver and Kyle, who have been -- for the most part -- critically successful, when there are certain couples, ahem certain couuuuplleeeeeesgigirex, who sit on the frontburner for years going from inane story to inane "bag of blood" story. The handsome and talented Scott Evans was never even signed to a contract! But Gigi and Rex's 13-year-old son was! And Todd and Tea's 47-year-old daughter is! What gives?! Oh wait, oh wait, yeah, sorry, forgot. The ratings went down when Oliver and Kyle got together. Even thought they were rarely shown together more than twice a week. Whatever, OLTL/ABC/whoever.

It's pure and blatant, and if you can't see that, I don't know how I can help you. Scott Clifton got the shaft because he was triangularing it up with Rex and Gigi, and it's been clear as crystal what the end game there was gonna be for months. Crystal Hunt was axed because her character was obviously not meant to go beyond this storyline. Austin Williams was demoted because he's 13 years old and never should have been on contract in the first place. Not everyone is fired or let go under shady circumstances, but getting rid of a fairly popular and successful couple for no real reason and getting rid of a viable member of a prominent family for no real reason sure has me scratching my head wondering what the "real reason" is. And then I realize, I already know.

Shoot, if they can write for Kelly Cramer they can write for Rachel Gannon. Point blank, every character has storyline potential no matter how popular or unpopular they are, and when you're lucky enough to be a well-liked character whose family members are always cooking on the frontburner, there is no reason why room cannot be made for you too. Rachel is just not worth it to OLTL which is very sad to me. And with Kevin coming and going, even more stuff to play with. But they'd rather flesh out a character and create a storyline for him based on his abs.

WITHOUT being in the gay story!

That takes talent!

Cat Hickland went to TPTB clutching her pearls and got him fired. TPTB thought she was from one of the focus groups.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the OLTL "mainstream viewer."

What's sad is that car enthusiast me stared at that picture going, "Mustang, Mustang, hmmm... ??"

But yeah, until I see justice served on OLTL, he will hereby be referred to as Toyota (don't you just love topical humor? -_- ). And no, I do not love what he does for me. <_<
