I'm not really surprised. And I'm not really disappointed.

I think OLTL would be best to try a GLBT story with characters related to core families. How about CJ Roberts? It would be interesting to see Clint's reaction to a gay grandson.

There are no core families in Llanview today. They have the same last names but that's about it. I've never seen the Buchanans as far apart as they are now.

I think this was it for gay characters. If they were blamed for ratings losses, then the most we may see of gays again is a story about how shocking and disgusting the whole thing is, like the Daniel Coulson murder spree.

DAMN. Like when Sherman Hemsley read in the trades that The Jeffersons was cancelled.

A banner month for OLTL, a banner month.

Wait a minute. This line made me do another take:

A show rep says the characters will not actually leave Llanview and, because Fish is a cop, he may pop up in a crime-related capacity down the line—but no promises are being made.

Bad move! It's ridiculous and frustrating when actors leave the show but the characters continue to live in town off-screen. It eventually leads to the character(s) getting an after-the-fact sentence or two explaining that they left town, or worse, being forgotten. And in fact, I'd feel insulted if Fish goes from being a relatively front-burner character to a glorified day player who only pops up when the LPD needs help.

EDIT: I suppose if they "remain in town", Gigi will get to be a part of her niece's life, but it would make more sense if they moved just outside of Llanview and Gigi took short trips to visit her.

Let's see. Gigi and Rex have had story in the past year with:

Kim

Stacy

Rachel

Sky

Fish

Kyle

All gone.

I expect we may start seeing some lighthearted, funny capers to remind us of why we were supposed to love Gigi and Rex in the first place. Unless, Todd help us, Frons or whoever still thinks heavy whore-laden drama is the answer, and it's just everyone else in the story who was the problem.

Valentini cut them without notice. I thought that would have Frons written all over it, but I guess he is making him take the fall for it I guess.

Gigi/Rex= SHOWEATERS!

Scott: Dan Gauthier is so damn talented. I want to see more of Kevin.

Brett: And Forbes March is a fascinating actor, isn't he?

(they leave the room)

Frank: FIRE THEM NOW!!!

That would be fantastic. I know Schuyler, Kim, Rachel, Kyle, Fish, and Shane have their fans, but for me, Patrick Thornhart returning would be the best soap-related news of the year.

This casting week would have made Paul Rauch proud. Finding out via TV Guide is like the modern age version of being fired in the parking lot.

I didn't like Patrick that much but if it gives Susan Haskell a big story then this may be worth it, even if it's just to wrap up Marty's stint on the show and she and Patrick move back to Ireland. Marty deserves some happiness and she did love Patrick more than any other man.

    • Yikes -a Cane/Phyllis sex scene. Why was there no warning before this episode aired? And of course Phyllis had sex with her bra on.  Had to laugh when Cane, trying to think of Phyllis' password to sneak into her laptop, talks out loud so we (and she) can be clued into what's happening. What is Phyllis' financial standing? At one point she was wealthy enough to run a hotel-which she gave up in an instant(can't remember why-some inane reason) Now she's scrounging around for a job with Cane. The many residents of the GCAC who are living in hotel rooms don't seem to do anything to personalize their space-no photos, books etc. The GCAC must have a strict policy on that. Nikki did look good today. Still find her hairstyle a little dowdy though.
    • Then 87 is the year you're looking for. Vanessa leaves town in Jan 88. When I saw Jenny counseling Dinah about George making the pass at her, all I could think was that Van would be pissed Ross' latest fling was advising her daughter. Cop or not.
    • As much as I hate Phyllis, seeing Billy Flynn in those boxers briefs in today's episode, has me almost tolerating her. BF looks

    • Dear sweet June, you'll get it right eventually.  In the meantime it's a good chuckle.

    • Damn, Leslie went in on Shanice... poor girl! Leslie really can't handle stress or certain emotions well, she lashes out. I also think it's weird she wants to know so many details about Eva's love/sex life. Vernon was sweet to June. It was nice (realistic) to see a customer complain to her though while she's still trying to establish herself. I'll be that guy, but for me personally, my enthusiam/excitement over the show has stalled yet again over the last couple weeks. For the majority, it seems like we're in a holding pattern until Winterfest. It's like they don't want to rock the boat or do much until then, which leaves us in a quiet period here. Are sweeps a thing still these days? Seems odd that we're having a slow November. That ending was good, but I saw that coming... in theory it should have a quick resolution, but I'm guessing Leslie will expose it at Winterfest and it'll get throw out of proportion haha.
    • Yes. Why? I don't really care. Vanessa is also acting dumb, trying to run between tables, on a date with Ross in one room and a business meeting with Alan in another.  One of the few times Van is written as less than the smart woman she was.
    • I've been specifically looking for the episodes for Ross and Van together, because they essentially both raise Dinah at that period and the recaps around her typically avoid the Dorie years, the carnies, or Alan-Michael and Cam. I'm really just trying to trace a throughline between Paige, Wendy, and Gina. The last two are "easy," but it just messes with my timeline when Dinah thinks Alan-Michael would kill Ross. Then again, that Alan-Michael slept with his own stepdaughter, so...
    • Anyway...they literally mentioned the secret room today on Days and yes, this show needs a Kristen lesbian story lol.
    • Yes, they did a 'premiere' of Maggie's death episodes at the ArcLight theatre in Los Angeles, arguably then the nicest movie theatre chain in the USA. Plus, Suzanne and Deidre were in a ton of scenes together during this time. Whatever happened between them happened after 2004.
    • There are episodes with Jenny (Mary Ellen Stuart) that she was in pre-writers strike.. and I know that she lasts until at least August 1988. It's a shame that the show didn't try pairing her with Rusty since the two had more chemistry than she had with Ross and that he had with Rose.
