I'm weird when it comes to the Olympics, I always root for who I consider the best athletes, rather than side along nationality lines like most people do.

The USA Hockey team was great and played a great game, but hockey means so much to Canada and I was happy to see them take Gold.

I have a very British sense of "patriotism," which might come from my British family. Eh, you'll find out when the 2012 Summer Games take place in London, where I'll probably be living in by then.

Dude, they did it!!!!! My God, what a game!! Man, the last two games have not been kind to my heart. I couldn't believe USA scored with 24 seconds left - talk about a moment was shock and disbelief and anger. During the intermission it was all, "Damn Babcock! Why did he call that timeout? That made so sense." "It's Crosby's fault, if only he scored on that breakaway." "No, it was Heatley's fault, how the hell could he miss that shot. Just shoot the puck high!" "I can't believe we hit two posts!" And then during the overtime, my heart constantly beating so rapidly, leaving towards the television....Canada was bringing it during that OT....and then "Oh no, Neidermeyer coughed up the puck! Nice save Luongo." Then, "What are you doing, Crosby, trying to go through four guys!"....."Crosby's open!!!!" And then finally the GOLDEN GOAL! "YEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" -- jumping in the air. It was madness! LOL I loved seeing the huge crowds all across Canada reacting and celebrating to the win. That shot of people body surfing in Toronto was awesome!

This Winter Olympics have been the best ever. I am definitely going to buy the compilation Blu-Ray discs now. I want my future kids to see these Olympic games and of course I want to relive it myself. :) 14 Gold medals - the most ever by a country. Unbelievable. Way to go Canada! So proud to be a Canadian.

Congratulations Canada on winning the hockey game and on winning the most gold medals.

Here's an unpopular opinion about these games, I thought Alexandre Bilodeau should have been the flag bearer for the closing games and not Joannie Rochette.

Congrats Canada for winning most gold medals :)

I knew from the start that my home country (Germany) wouldn't lead the medal table this time, although all in all we won one medal more than we did in 2006 – 30. ;)

I'm also happy for Norway and Switzerland. :)

For me, the most exciting tournament was the women's team pursuit in speed skating. First Netherlands vs. Germany – neighboring countries competing against each other is always nerve-wracking. Then USA vs. Germany, where Anni Friesinger-Postma stumbled in the last curve and literally swam over the finish line. And finally Japan vs. Germany which was such a close race. I was also glad that Poland won the bronze medal.

I totally agree. Of course it's great if your own countries' athletes do well, but it's only fair to honor the achivements of other countries' athletes as well because everyone of them is doing their best.

I ordered the compilation discs too... CTV won. I want to be able to relive these moments over and over again. It was such an amazing games capped off by the amazing OT thriller of a gold medal game. I was so deflated after that late third period USA goal. To be 24 seconds away from a GOLD medal and then to be tied.... it hurt and I honestly thought the USA with the momentum going into OT would have it.... not to be. Heart stopping, but I can't describe in words how I felt when I saw Crosby score that goal... Iginla was down on his knees and he fought to pass it. Miller had no chance.

The USA played an excellent tournament though, there was nothing more they really could have done. It was so much better than the Gold game from 2002 where Canada had it in the bag basically the whole game. Even when we were up 2-0, I was in no way comfortable.

Agreed--I wasn't a big fan of the closing ceremonies (I just hope the rest of the world realized the giant beavers etc were *jokes*--I've read a few American blog posts that left me wondering) but overall really well done.

I was there for two days this week and had a great time--so I found this article from Time magazine a bit silly (especially considering there were no serious problems--and Vancouver was trying to get over a reputation it has for being a "no fun city" with very little allowed in terms of street partying) A Gold in Drinking

Seriously? I wasn't even there but all I know is that Vancouver has leap-frogged to the top of my "Next Vacation" list (I went YEARS ago but I was only kid then). If I were ever offered a job there, I would seriously consider taking it.

When my brother read the article he said the reporter just needed a drink (it's true he seems to be going out of his way to comment on every glass of beer he sees--there was no major violence like when Van had their infamous 1994 hockey riots--which is what caused Van to be weary of such gatherings in the first place).

Vancouver's an awesome city--and I think the games have done a lot for its rep (certainly few Olympic cities have been so photogenic, between the ocean and the mountains, in a while). I admit it's been fun living on vancouver Island during all the excitement.

The closing ceremonies I also thought were a bit off, but usually closing ceremonies are write offs.... I enjoyed all the formalities (speeches, athletes walking in together and some of the performances), but overall they were weak and rather cheesy.

Hedley, Nickelback? Eva Avila  ?

    • What did happen to Beth between 86 and 89? Did she have amnesia?
    • I actually thought he came off as younger. It's so hard to buy Martin as Nicole and Ted's son unless they had him when they were 12.
    • @chrisml Isn't remarkable that, on a soap whose brand is built on twists and mysteries, that Raven's last straw was as simple as Logan saying that she was incapable of loving Jamey.  In the episode when Raven exit's and leaves Jamey with April, I can remember feeling the subtext that Raven is also trying to talk herself into leaving him behind.  There's so much in that little scene.  She's trying to stick it to Logan for saying she was a bad mother.  She's both granting April's wish, and damning her with the old adage of being careful what she wished for.  And, she's hinting to Draper that she's going to boff his father. It remains my favorite scene, and it still blows my mind that was not the end of that episode.
    • Oh lord not Drew just figured out it was both Nina and Portia that set him up. Willow WILL never leave this man. Ric taking the case purely just to spite Sonny is [!@#$%^&*].ing hilarious.
    • And in addition to Patti being de-aged, she was no longer a nurse, divorced from Len(fair enough) and her two children were not seen and barely mentioned. So basically she was a totally new character. For newer viewers it didn't matter but any loyal viewers would have been wondering about all the changes with Patti. Sarah Whiting always puzzled me. The writers finally decide to acknowledge Jo's family and do so by making up a never mentioned adopted teen. Why not just bring in Tracey, Jo's actual grandaughter? As for Liza, perhaps it would have been wise to rest the character when Sherry left. They were big shoes to fill and her Liza was so identified with Travis. I don't recall what was going on in the story at that time but if they knew Sherry was leaving, write it so Liza would leave town to care for an ailing Janet and take a breather with the character for a few months.
    • Ahh interesting. Yeah, that's sad for A-M. I will say, he and Nick became fast friends when Susan started working at Spaulding. A-M/Lucy/Nick/Susan had a lot of double dates in those 7 months. A-M was Nick's best man at his wedding to Susan, which now that I think about it, is odd that he wouldn't have considered Fletcher. I remember those two were so close at the paper, and even living together with Ben. Once Tangie left SF, Nick left the paper, and Fletcher/Holly were rarely seen... so I guess they felt that friendship wasn't shown often enough anymore (which again, lazy writing).
    • I honestly don't think Alan-Michael ever really had a friend on the show. Maybe Cameron or Samantha, but otherwise... *Cameron was a high school friend who ended up dating teenage Dinah after she broke up with A-M. Samantha is Phillip's biological sister, who A-M treated like a sister. Interestingly enough, they were born the same week on the show in 1981, but A-M ends up being older than her when she returns to town in '89.
    • I thought he was very cute too, and a likeable presence even though on paper Cliff was a prick. I wonder if he was well-liked by viewers or someone at the show as there's a point in these episodes where he could have been written out and was not.
    • I'm not a Derek fan at all (and not even all that much of an Ashley fan, but man has she become awful in their relationship--like she's not even trying.  But also I admit, I don't think I'd ever live with someone, even someone I was married to (I know they're not married) in a bachelor apartment unless I had to.  Even just a one bedroom would make a big difference.  I'd probably end up hiding in the bathroom a lot

    • Going back to this, I'm even more confused why Amanda would say that only a year later (lazy writers), because I'm watching April 29, 1996 right now and literally all of the current on-air Spauldings (Alan, Alex, Amanda, A-M) and Coopers (Buzz, Lucy, Frank, Eleni) are on a plane together for Lucy/A-M's wedding. Along with Reva (which right now makes sense because she's married to Buzz), Dahlia (so out of place, but by default because they can't let a high school kid they just took in stay home alone), and a very random Rick (he's barely had any interaction with any of these characters all year haha).  It's like a madhouse on that plane, which is pretty comical because most of them don't get along... but they very much know each other. Still miffed that Bridget is totally forgotten here. And David. And Nick/Susan! Couldn't they have waited to fire them until after this wedding?  It was only like 2 months later. They had to make Alan be A-M's best man (which is wild to me) bc A-M doesn't even have any real friends on the show right now.
