SOAPnet Sets All Time High Viewing Records in Prime-time in 2009

Initially, when I read the SoapNet press release, I was impressed by OLTL and AMC's increases, then I realized that these are not weekly numbers. Even with increases, these annual numbers are not good, especially when compared to weekly ratings for OLTL and AMC. Take AMC for example. It had its lowest 18 to 49 women demo during the week Dec 14 to 18 which was 625,000. Every week in 2009 on SoapNet, AMC averaged 4,000 in this demo. This isn't good. I can't imagine how SoapNet is even making profit off those numbers even if ABC letting SoapNet air them for free or a nominal fee. SoapNet's other newer reality and syndicated programming must be doing very well and carrying the daily soap repeats. SoapNet's problem is that it reaches a very small percentage of homes and is viewed by even fewer people.

Every tuesday and Friday ABC FAMILY runs a couple of hours worth of AMERICA'S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS repeats. Did anyone watch this crap when it was first run? That could have easily been an attempt to air GL and ATWT twice a week back to back.

And I believe MAD MEN is a "hit" with far less than 3 million viewers.

How much does it cost to air AFV? Not much? With a soap, theres a whole cast, crew, writing staff, producers, etc... to pay. Its just not cost effective to just think they could easily stick it in there when AFV is a MUCH cheaper option for that network

Well, I can tell you on satellite... Soapnet is in a "middle tier" package... you must pay a minimum of 50$ per month to get it.

In my market, the price of SoapNet is similar. It costs $40.00 on satellite and $50.00 on cable. I checked around that it is around this price in top media markets.

My cable provider offers Soapnet on the basic cable line up and the digital line up. So I have Soapnet on two channels

Not here. You have to have the Digital mid tier package to get Soapnet.

So those numbers in the Soapnet Press Release are annual viewing numbers not weekly averages? Well then those numbers are terrible.

I'm happy to read something positive about AMC and OLTL for a change, but I fear whoever wrote this press release will be out of a job once Mr. Frons returns from vacation

You might want to re-read and get your facts straight on this.

True, but when you have the choice of a laptop or the choice of a 46 inch flatscreen... most people choose the flatscreen. I only have a 27 inch CRT, but it's still WAY better than watching on a 19 inch computer monitor.

Well, I don't have that AND with my school schedule I miss my soaps and no longer have soap net. I don't have a DVR player so it comes back to watching my shows online sitting wherever I want.

Daytime ratings go down while primetime ratings for the same shows are going up...hmmm....WONDER! WHY!?

Well for shows like L&O and NCIS that are on PT and in syndication, the reruns have actually done well and have helped the actually show's draw more viewers. This is not happening with these shows.

Maybe if rather than show repeats of the day, they should show repeats of popular storylines of each show in the evening, which might encourage people to tune into the shows during the day.

Whatever works for you is good. I was just saying why so many people watch on soapnet.
